Yep, it almost sounds like they're talking about football but THEY'RE NOT! I only hope it's a dying debate. Remember when Adelaide had two 'old' football teams, both of which managed to exclude 75% of the population? No harm in community based clubs at all - as long as they don't even pretend to be representative.

Succumbed to that dreadful thread and put in my 2Cs, of course since they are only interested in screaming at each other from the safety of an internet forum it will make no difference to them.

Robbie Cornthwaite's been outed for two matches and has to do community service for the rest of his AU contract. All very contrite. Just came out. 442 story will follow shortly I imagine but just thought I'd let the faithful know.

Come on Robbie! Come back to Hindmarsh against Melbourne, stronger and better than before!! YEAH BABY!

Meanwhile, did anyone else see this?

Adelaide to sign the next Nathan Burns?

Sources today tell AdelaideReds that gun Bulleen Royals striker Matthew Leckie is on the verge of signing for Adelaide.

Recently named in the “Next Young Socceroos” squad that played in the U19 Youth Championships in Vietnam with Adelaide reserve keeper Mark Birighiti, Leckie has been touted as one of Australia’s best up-and-coming strikers, scoring in the ASEAN tournament and currently joint top scorer at his VPL side at only 18 years old.

Well I was right, 4-4-2! Ha! We still didn't win though, our midfield sucked - again. Pants needs to be dropped. Hughes needs to be dropped (which is annoying, he does get into scoring positions!).

Cannot believe that Fyfe scored! Turn up for the books.

Good on Jamo for playing, now we need to have Owusu be OK for Friday - plus Dodd, Barbs and Cassio. Barbs can come on for 45 minutes in the second half and start Shin instead of Hughes. Pants to the bench with Cassio on and Alemao to be replaced by Dodd.

We need to win the next 2 games to stay in the hunt.

Hughes needs to spend more time training in front of goal. Cristiano and Owusu will obviously need more time to develop their onfield relationship. Most of the squad need to learn how to pass more efficiently, and getting into position to receive a pass in front of movement (I was actually paying a lot of attention to this over the weekend, and all teams seemed to pass behind the player's flow of play which was annoying to watch)... Triangles people!

Ha! You sound like decentric! who I admit doesn't post here so you probably don't know him... that made no sense! but he is always going on about triangles, diamonds, etc etc. Massive fan of stats, his analysis of a match can be quite interesting.

What can I say? I'm a big fan of triangles and exponents of the first-touch passing game. :D I just wish we could develop more of that at Adelaide... but like most people have realised, the Australian style of play always sees us passing backwards or down the flanks more than venturing forward down the centre.

does anyone else think adelaide are ideally suited to play three at the back??

if vidmar wants to put ten men behind the ball at all times he may as well do it right.. cornthwaite, fyfe and rudan with wingbacks jamieson/cassio and alemao/mullen? this will give dodd license to use his speed not just down the line but cutting in as well. i think letting dodd have freedom is important, he's one o the few unpredictable players..

I think that Viddie seriously wanted to play a 3-5-2 formation as our main one this year. We would have had 3 CBs in Shin 1, Rudan & Fyfe. The had Mullen, Reid and Jamo in fron of them. Had Dodd and Cassio further up the park with Cristiano and Owusu up front:

-----Shin 1--Rudan--Fyfe------
-Mullen-----------------Jamo--
-------------Reid-------------
----Dodd-------------Cassio---
----------Cristiano-----------
--------------Owusu-----------

It was our terrible run of injuries etc that stopped this sort of line up, he would have wanted to be able to bring Alemao on for either Dodd or Cristiano, have Marrone as back up for either Shin 1 or Mullen, Shin 2 & Hughes would have been used for Reid - all depending on how the game was playing out.

He would have also had the option of stacking the midfield or defence, and at times playing a true 4-3-3 by taking off one of the CBs and bringing on Monterosso or any of our attacking mid fielders and pushing Dodd up the park.

Overall if we actually had the full squad to play with I think you would see a much much different AUFC playing week in week out.

The thing about football - the important thing about football - is its not just about football.

hmm..interesting. i'm not so sure about playing dodd too high up the park. i really think he's more ideally suited out wide, using his acceleration and dribling to go past his man and either cut in or send a cross into owusu/cristiano. that would be the only problem i think. would viddie realy play a 4-3-3? has he ever before? im not a follower of united so i cant really be sure, but i cant remember it.

Last year against WP we actually played a 4-3-3 and the result was just lovely, 5-1 scoreline - our best game played I would say.

Dodd would still be playing out wide, Cristiano would be filling the role that Cahill does in the Socceroos.

If we're going to hell in a hand basket so is Adelaide, it's a rule, then we'll just go back to tussling it out for Premierships/Championships while all the pleb clubs watch next year.

The disturbing thing is it appears to be true, I reckon the ACL is good for our teams, it really seems to buoy us.
