Im still croaking and when a sound does come out intelligable my voice is an octave deeper than usual!!!!!
For sub 9,000 though it was one of the best atmospheres at Hindmarsh in memory I reckon.
That was a year of frustration coming out when Leckie scored.
Stubbins even looked at those of us hanging around at the end and pumped his fists hard in the air...
Its been a long 12 months for everybody me thinks...

My voice returned early this morning. :D
Like I mentioned elsewhere, the Manton St stand seemed quite full to me, however the western stand looked rather half full... I don't get what happened there. All us gold members would have been happy to have our reserved seats available to us.
But, damn, am I happy right now!

I can't really comment as i only saw 15 minutes of the game plus highlights. but it did show to me Flakes out of position a lot, Pantelis being his usual hot/cold self, Dodd almost getting there, SVD being a gun, Flores being a gun, Leckie almost being a gun due to poor close control at times (though that goal! OMFG!). I reckon we could top our group, we need to win our other 2 home games and 1 game away. Realistically we need to get a minimum of 12 points to get to the round of 16,, which is 3 draws and 3 wins. After what i saw of the match we could easily do this.

tstead wrote:Now that I have my Voice back, lets talk best players. Fyfe and leckie for me. dodd had a solid game too imo. I actually do think Fyfe really stood tall last night and had to cover a lot of Cornthwaits out of position running...good lord every time Robbie gets the ball the crowd tenses up as no-one has a clue what will happen next. He did however make a few crucial blocks and got his head to most things so i wont go too hard on him. I though Serj was incredible with how much work he did holding the play up, flick ons and some VERY neat back heels and spins. Flores was the best performance ive seen in a red shirt as far as vision etc in a long long while. What a difference Flores and Van Dijk made to an otherwise unchanged team that finished dead last. Can actually hold posession and make a pass. The difference in how we looked was so obvious. I thought Dodd played well and tried very hard. Almost TOO hard as he slipped on the ball a few times in his haste and Jesus he really should have slipped Flores when he took that shot that JUST missed but a good game I thought. I though Marrone a couple of times tried to turn in the midfield and got caught but I think he'll have learned from that. You wont get as much time on the ball in CM in Asia as the A-League. Mullen and Jamo battled valiantly all night as their flanks were constantly being pumelled. Leckie...well....the embodiment of the determination that will hold us in good stead in this comp (to quote Bill Lawrie as done by the 12th man re Merv Hughes - I love him, I wanna boof him, get 'im up 'ere). Pants noticably tired on the hour and I thought Cassio might have come on. Pants seemed to fluff it at several crucial moments but I dont think he had an altogether terrible game. Though the chance that Dodd had that i mentioned above Pantelis really did put a shit ball across the box behind our two players running but anyways... Far out I kept typing So for me...any one of : Flores, Van Dijk, Fyfe or Leckie Edited by davide82: 25/2/2010 02:53:37 PMEdited by davide82: 25/2/2010 03:42:37 PM

Leckie, van Dijk and Flores were my standouts last night. Perhaps in that order for 3-2-1 votes.

After seeing the home shirt with the StudyAdelaide logo in action last night, I'm actually tempted to buy one. I wonder where they're available... probably club store I guess...

Hugene - Good as ever. Mullen - Struggled a bit. Carded for being hauled over! He's getting too close in the challenge and getting caught out. Could improve but he's a lad. Flakes - The classic Flakes game. A couple of heart-sdtopping howlers and a couple of unbelievable blocks. Good in the air and overall did ok. He doesn't panic. I like that. Will have to lift to keep Boogard out. Fyfe - Totally under-rated find for us this year. Solid and sensible again. He will never be a 'flash' player but he's doing the job and he always seems to be 'there' when he needs to be. Could learn to pass. Jamo - Sorry son, but you were done like a dinner most of the match. The wierd thing about Jamo is that he seems to get worse once he misses a couple of tackles. He always seems to want to make up for it with too much speed and agression. Calm down and play your game. He needs to setlle. And keep his hands to himself. Marrone - Not at his best but still a few magic moments. Got robbed a couple of times and early on nearly cost us a goal. Can hardly complain. He's been brilliant for us. The only reason I have for hoping Fury go into administration! Leckie - Another inspirational display from a kid who's come a long way in a year. A star and the goal was magic - and deserved. BUT, he needs to learn to look up and pass. He cost us a goal by being greedy - and it's not the first time. Travis - Playing well again and his interplay with Flores was sometimes wonderful. Must. Hit. Net. Travis! Also, must not stop playing to have a breather late in matches that are crucial. But all round a good game. Pants - Ok, I'm going to be killed for this but I think Pants has been one of our best for the last six weeks. He puts in, he makes passes and he - occasionally - scores. Another decent effort from the player the fans all hate to rate. Flores - Um...I suppose he was ok. No...hang on...he was magic! What a difference he made to our play through brilliant touches, vision and passing. I am trying really hard not to expect that again but I am so hoping it does. Can he get better? yep. Fitter, stronger - and please, less prone to swan-dives. Serg - Please stay. How good was it to have a striker who looked calm and could run and shoot. He didn't actually do much that was incredible (nice free kick - but it missed) however he was there all the time. He defended well too. What we all wish Lloyd Owusu could have been. Barbiero - Came on and looked good. Unlucky not to start but how good is it to have a subs bench full of class? Was sharp and full of run but he'll learn a lot from Flores about what a number 10 can and should do. Griffiths - Not sure why he was even on the bench. Not match fit and his lack of timing in the challenge could have cost us dearly. Like Jamo, he seemed to respond to his lack of form by choosing to take it out on the opposition. It's just that he's a big lad and he's dangerous. Looking forward to seeing him fit and in form one day. Hughes - No time to make an impact. Fortunately. He must be a nice guy because no-one ever leaves him out of the team but one day the inevitable must happen. The crowd yelled,"Don't do it" when he was walking up to the line to come on. That's not fair on him - or us.
All up a great win for us but only a beginning. Against the Asian Champions, even if it was at home, this was a magnificent victory. One for the memories.
Oh and thank to Jim's Plumbing for the support this year but the new shirt for the ACL is not only worth buying - but it's worth wearing! :d

Would have liked to see Cassio & Flores on the pitch at the same time. With Flores defence splitting weighted passes and Cassio's crosses from the left I reckon SvD would have put a couple in, as he won a hell of a lot of high balls, and that one he won in the 1st half couldn't have missed by much.
Just soo happy, I just wish we'd won by more

Yes, I think Cassio brought Viddie coffee with milk in it (if he has black coffee) or without (if he has milk). He's obviously done something naughty. Not that I'm saying he's a better player than Hughes! No, no, no. I miss Cassio. Great player and great team man.
I was disappointed with the way we let them wion almost everything in the air in midfield. Mind you, they were generally taller than us. Another Asian myth shattered! :) The Munchkin army are taller than some of our boys.
And happy? Oh yes! :d Was there an A-League season? I can't remember it.

I will be buying the shirt on Monday, and will proudly wear the shirt during my time in Japan in April. :D As well as proclaiming my love for the shirt and the club, I'll also be helping to promote our education here in SA. :D
Speaking of which, I suppose the government should pay me for that... :p I won't hold my breath though.

I have DJITE 9 on my Socceroos shirt, but I think I'll stick to a plain Reds shirt with no numbers or names. My Barca shirt looks good as is.

HI! IT'S ME AGAIN! :P
I was at the club store earlier enquiring about the ACL shirt with the StudyAdelaide.com sponsor on the front - apparently it'll only be available on game day in those van shop things. I guess I'll have to wait until the 24th to get my shirt.
Whilst I was at the club store though, Flores was there talking to Valkanis about what he wants to achieve on the pitch. He was saying that his main strength was to have speed in his passing. Valkanis was trying to convince him about his playmaker role.

This is what happens when you give the number 10 shirt to a donkey, if Flores had it on his back he would know without a shadow of a doubt what role he was to have on the pitch. But if he thinks his passing speed is the best thing he brings to the club, more power to him - it will be his linking play and ability to release our attacking players into space that I will be watching!
