+xHey all, I noticed Lachlan Brook is included in the squad for next season. Having seen him at youth level for the national team I was immensely impressed by him, and I recall that he made a brief cameo in the last AFC Champions League game for the club too. That's great stuff for someone who only just turned 16! Does everyone else here rate him highly too? Anyone think he'll get a shot at the A-League next season? He is definitely one to keep an eye on! He is part of the NPL squad but he does not seem to be starting at that level although he has scored off the bench. It was a bit of a surprise he was given some time in the ACL game. I doubt he will get a lot of time next season but he does seem to be an exciting talent. Last years NPL side had McGree, O'Doherty, Tongyik, Koutrombis, Margush and Warland so it seems like he is in a good place for developing players.

Well McGowan has gone and Regan is here permanently, Elsey will hopefully be back from injury along with Warland. The question is whether La Rocca stays or we get a replacement for him. I suspect it will be between Elsey, who was good enough but who knows what a second knee reconstruction has done to him, Regan, who I think is not good enough and Warland who has not proven himself to be good enough, to partner La Rocca or his replacement. If La Rocca can get back into good form and if Elsey makes a successful recovery and play at his best next season with Warland and Regan as back up it is not a disastrous position, but I would prefer another higher quality CB than Regan.

+xThe silence is deafening! Already I'm prepared to accept the wooden spoon, what is going on? No coach, a squad that is paper thin and has been left by way too many good players in my opinion, but not replacing Cirio yet is frightening, as is Dylan McGowen. I hope the blokes that make the decisions are reading this, because we had in-action last season and only escaped the spoon at the death and CCM will be in the finals this year I'm sure. But, but, according to the club there is no problem because the rubbish they replaced our premiership squad with was paid the same salaries

+xGood thing Mells and Makarounas have gone- wonder which clubs would be deluded enough to take them...? NPL at their best, probably Victorian NPL, although it may be too late for them already as they're not really all that good

I feel for you redcup. Baro would have been a good capture so too Khalfalla - the internal a league merry go round seems to be happening sooner this year so you need someone making the transfer calls soon

Apparently the club is aiming to have a coach in place by the end of the month, so this week, and then decisions will be made on some players and signing can be made. If that timetable can happen then it is excellent but I am not expecting anything.

Carrusca had no chance of staying at the club as a visa player, but by becoming an Aussie Citizen, which I don't think will be finalised until his ceremony in July, he might be given another contract. Everything I have read until this article indicated La Rocca was still possibly signing another contract, but perhaps that has changed in the last couple of days.
The club needs to find a new coach very quickly so final decisions can be made on a number of players including Carrusca, Galekovic, Ocheing and Marino

Mells recently tweeted he had "another opportunity abroad" I'm guessing somewhere in Greece or around the Mediterranean area, however for Makarounas, Fuck me, the amount of opportunity the bloke has had to grab a starting position at MV and AU, I honestly don't even think he is NPL 1 standard in Victoria anymore would be a good pick up for GV Suns, the way he has progressed. Trust me, I really thought he was going to be like a Dimi Petratos type player and I wanted him to be but... something just didn't click for him.

+x+x+xGood thing Mells and Makarounas have gone- wonder which clubs would be deluded enough to take them...? Mells is heading overseas, he is still young. I still think he can be a good player, he was sick at the start of this season and that ruined his seasons. Last season he showed a bit. Disagree.. he seemed to be a peripheral figure who never seemed to be up to A League standard. I suppose there may be a chance that he could develop in some Asian league. Yep, he was shaping up to be Watson V2.0 to be honest. Was never that adventurous with the ball, far too conservative and ability wise seemed a bit limited. Good luck to him in the future and all but he's not a loss for us.

He had an option for a second year in his contract which the club used. I thought he improved a lot over the season and can still improve, happy he will be at the club next year. Still we need to sign some quality out wide as crosses to Baba is going to be a productive way of scoring if the team has players who can regularly cross well.

ADELAIDE United has beaten off overseas offers for striker Baba Diawara to secure the Senegalese marksman for a further two-years.The 29-year-old striker is expecting to leave Adelaide on Thursday night for a holiday at home before returning to pre-season training at the end of June where he will meet United’s new coach after Guillermo Amor made it clear he wasn’t going to be the boss any longer on Wednesday. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/football/a-league/adelaide-united-resign-senegalese-striker-baba-diawara-for-two-more-years/news-story/13ebd2b7dff61660e85331b5b11d91e9does this mean a manager is confirmed?

Gabriel Batistuta could become the highest-profile coach for Adelaide United and the A-League ADELAIDE United is closer to securing superstar Gabriel Batistuta as its new high-profile rookie coach after Reds boss Guillermo Amor made an inevitable announcement which still came as a shock to some players on Wednesday. Amor made an emotional speech to his tight-knit playing group at a Hindmarsh Stadium meeting, telling his troops his two-year tenure as coach had come to an end on his terms. Despite the news being a long time coming many of his squad were overcome with emotion. One of his star players, who wished to remain anonymous, claimed, “deep down you can see he’s a good guy, he is so humble and being such a nice man made it difficult when he did tell us”. Now Adelaide chief executive Grant Mayer has revealed capturing Batistuta, 48, is a priority given Amor’s shoes are big ones to fill. Batistuta is intent on bringing a team of two Argentine assistant coaches with the club finalising the intricacies of the package deal. But the Reds have compiled a list of other bosses just in case the Batistuta deal falls over. “We can’t sit on our hands,’’ Mayer said. “We’re chasing a suitable replacement after Guillermo Amor has all the respect and goes out on his own terms. “With Batistuta an offer has been made but there is also a Plan A, B and C.” Mayer revealed Adelaide is close to securing 14 players for the new season by the end of the week. Mayer also expressed his disappointment in Tarek Elrich’s comments to Fox Sports before Adelaide hosted Jiangsu Suning on Tuesday night with the defender claiming he was worried about United’s recruiting for the new season. “The information circulated was inaccurate,’’ Mayer said. “We’re actively in the market to strengthen the squad for next season.” Senegalese striker Baba Diawara, a Reds revelation signed in late January from Portugal’s Maritimo, is one of those players Adelaide is keen to recapture. Baba is poised to extend his deal which ends this month. Adelaide must also contemplate whether it can fit playmaker Marcelo Carrusca in its long-term plans given the off-contract Argentine will become an Australian in July while Central Coast has gone cold on signing Spaniard Sergio Cirio from the Reds. It’s understood Carrusca has already booked the Australian citizen ceremony which gives Adelaide more options for imports given Batistuta or any other coach has room to sign three foreigners with possibly Baba and for certain Isaias on the imports roster. Batistuta featured in the qualifying clash for the 1994 US FIFA World Cup, seeing off the Socceroos at the final hurdle after a 1-1 draw in Sydney with a 1-0 win to the Argentines. He has a very close connection with Australia. He lived in Perth from 2007-11 and was touted to be coach of the Socceroos a decade ago. The forward is regarded as a living legendary for Argentina while Fiorentina of Italy erected a bronze statue of the goal machine in 1996. The other potential coaches on the United shortlist are also foreign. Adelaide is intent on sticking to employing imports since Dutchman Rini Coolen became the first non-Australian to lead the Reds in 2010 before his term ended in December 2011. SA legend John Kosmina was then put in charge of the Reds again until he walked away in January 2013 before United appointed Spaniard and former Kitchee SC of Hong Kong coach Josep Gombau. http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/football/a-league/teams/adelaide/gabriel-batistuta-could-become-the-highestprofile-coach-for-adelaide-united-and-the-aleague/news-story/d613a9026498bdc53ffb6fd90ec9ad99

+xIt would be interesting as his son is in the Adelaide United NPL team and might make the Adelaide United squad next season. His son is not good enough to be near the squad, his name has got him to that NPL team.
