I think the ideal size is 20k for Brisbane. A winning Brisbane team gets the crowd numbers over 15k. My choice is Perry park. Close to trains, valley and breaky creek hotel. What about Spencer park? Surely Brisbane city fc wouldn't sell their home ground to their potential rivals in the future if they win an expansion spot.

I think 17k is about right, it means the sold out sign can be put up more frequently which will have a significant improvement in the perception of how the club is going. The just need to make sure that the stadium is easily expandable so if we get to the point where a lot of games are sold out we can increase capacity “cheaply” to get The extra people to the games.

also the 10-12k we currently get will look a lot better if there are 3k less empty seats for people to talk about.

So A-League clubs should NOT be following the Tarneit model?

Is that the model where you con a thick as bricks governing body with the bogus promise of a stadium you will never build?

I know I wrote Arndale and even stated Hyperdome once upon a time but why not above a shopping centre?
i have been in the mall in Nuechatel CH that is 3 levels and Xanax or whatever they are called have a stadium above it,
my club at a stadium which has an entertainment precinct under it.

They was the Brisbane live proposal. Ok it’s more than $60 mil

“AEG-Ogden, a subsidiary company of AEG, the world’s largest entertainment venue operator has unveiled plans for a massive $2 billion ‘Brisbane Live’ ultra-entertainment precinct to be built above the Roma Street rail lines which will be presented to the state government this week.”

https://brisbanedevelopment.com/unveiled-new-2-billion-brisbane-live-entertainment-arena-precinct/

my point is refit could mean up. Not much demolition and easy to find space off the ground.

If this is true, and I very much hope it is, then this suggests that the clubs already have definite plans post Fox, which is the best football news I have heard for a long, long time.

Personally I will never accept Logan is Brisbane. Brisbane is one big city. On big council. Unlike any other capital. SEQ doesn’t have many different councils at all in comparison either.

A quick example is Brisbane City Council is over 1300km2
City of Sydney is 25km2

so you have Briabane Logan then Gold Coast then NSW. 3 councils.

They don’t want Logan.

But it I agree with Waz. Logan would work with parking. Public transport isn’t great and everyone drives. Plus you have fact many wouldn’t travel to Suncorp because it is too far. So you would probably end up with new Logan fans. But still be able to keep the Brisbane name. Probably get some GC people too.

Another example is Central Coast region and Logan City have about the same population but CC region is 5 times larger in area

Logan is part of the Brisbane metropolitan area which is around 2.6 million. Same with moreton bay regional council and technically Ipswich these days. I think moreton bay which has part of the old pine rivers shire, has more connection with Brisbane than Logan which has more of its on identity. It definitely feels separate to Brisbane when you're there. That's why I think roar would never be able to build a stadium there and expect fans from all over Brisbane to go and watch.

Logan is out and out a RL city, although has a huge football participation rate.

The city council area is ridiculously huge, housing a mixture of demographics, normally divided by the freeweay. So there is a west and east attitude in Logan.

I know this has kinda been discussed but could this relocated but the perfect opportunity for Brisbane to gain a second club. If the Roar were to relocate either south or north, would it open up the chance for another club to position themselves in the opposite region.

I know it may bite into Roars fanbase/demographic but if you allow for a divide and geographic reason to support either side it will enable more people to support and identity with other side. Kinda like in the way SFC and WSW both represent alternate sides of Sydney, more people feel connected and can much easier identify with a more concrete region which they live in.

Brisbane needs a second club sooner rather then later in my opinion but if you added one now it would be another Melbourne city, as in no real reason to follow them for a new fan. So could this move give another major benefit in the long term. A new home for Roar, new club for Brisbane, a new derby and possibly a range of new fans?

which is open
3 yrs from when they agree in 3 yrs time?
Roar could move to Redcliffe once construction starts until the project is completed. Perhaps the goal is move in 3 yrs yes, but to the temp solution

I think a fan who lives on south side could deal with a few season at dolphins mentally if they knew a new stadium was confirmed and being built or construction had started.

Fong can’t sell the idea of moving the team there without a next move. Fans would kick up a stink if the club moved in that fashion.

Again that’s not entirely correct. Transport to.from the stadium is much more than just trains.

Ballymore stadium is located a near train station but the capacity to move fans after a game is extremely low, trains can’t even move a small crowd of 5,000.

Suncorp is unique in having high capacity trains passing directly by due to its proximity to the city Center. But even then it is complemented by dedicated bus services and car parking in nearby private car parks.

Putting on special trains and busses is cost prohibitive, especially for small crowds of 10-15k.

A train  station is nice to have yes, but in a non-CBD area is only likely to service a fraction of the crowd.

Same too scheduled bus services.

And anyone that has to make multiple changes is highly unlikely to travel.

A stadium further out from the Center of the city brings the car back in to focus. For Midweek cup games at Ballymore and Perry Park Roar will draw 2-3k but at Dolphin Stadium 6k+ ... the reason is people can drive and park at, or close to, the stadium.

If the new stadium doesn’t have a blend of transport options, and in particular car parking, it just won’t work

I reckon Mitchie Football club would be going cheap . Lots of room , pub next door , railway and buses.

Should have been a goal for almost every a-league that wants to be involved in the top flight.

That's what I said, but it starts somewhere and by all accounts this has been on in the backrooms quietly for 12 months.

We have a better chance of new stadium (and earlier) than WU.

I don't think they'd come out and announce it in the media like this if they didn't think it was a pretty realistic possibility. The backlash if it turns out to be bullshit would be huge.

I'm sure the Qlder's can chime in with informative input.

But wasn't there posts in the past suggestion the showgrounds as being a potential viable option?
I remember seeing an image which showed some current stands so it may roll in with the configuration mentioned in the article.

Well now the the clubs actually own the brand i think things will change. As a franchise owner as they where in the past why invest in infrastructure when the FFA could move you and you won't getting any income from the club brand. Thats the one positive of club own A league. clubs have control on revenue and will actual invest.

If its near the CBD Albion Park has to be favourite.....Allan Border Oval and Brothers Rugby club are next door.
Train and Bus nearby.
Brecky  Creek Hotel close by.

The QLD Harness Racing club which has been at Albion Park forever ,strangely enough is looking for a new home and is looking to sell!

The only problem is its Northside.

Unfortunately I don’t think it’s Perry Park, Strikers don’t want Roar there, and local residents don’t want a stadium there so too problematic.

I’m not sure it can cope with regular 10k crowds either. It’s all very well saying “there’s a train station” but four trains an hour would be lucky to move 5,000 people.

There’s a number of smaller sporting sites across Brisbane that are under utilised (the outdoor velodrome, Albion Park, several rugby venues, a couple of athletic venues ...
