+x+xMetcalfe starting in Irvine's position. Surprisingly positive. He looks so much more natural playing CM than on the wing. His St Pauli wide role was less wing than what he had against Ecuador. He was better in the more central albeit wide role against Mexico but it's also time to keep him more central for Australia too like he was for City.

+xDavidson setting against Liege and O'Neill on bench. Mullins in from Newcastle in same position. Bet this is O'Neills end already. We're in trouble - our best midfielder over the last decade has just retired. Our best midfielder at the moment is injured. O'Neill, Baccus & McGree are all on the bench for their clubs. Hrustic hasn't been seen for ages. And the player with the potential to be one of our best, doesn't appear to want to play for us (Volpato). A good sign is Devlin looks likes he's having a great start to the SPL season & Robertson has been playing well for Portsmouth. I really think Luongo is a must. People saying that they want to move on from him, but why?!!! He's still only 30 & is the midfield general for Ipswich - coming 2nd in the Championship.

Interestingly o'niell and genreau both average about half the passes per game as they did in the a league despite playing in teams that circulate the ball as much as a league clubs. Tough to adjust to the difference in time or space. In genreau's case he has gotten busy off the ball to compensate for the fact he touches it less. O'niell hopefully can make the same adjustment as he learns to adjust to the reduction in time and space. Stats show he has been qutie busy off the ball so with some luck he will feature a lot

Circati played another full 90 minutes for Parma as they thrash Cantazaro 5-0 and remain 1st on the ladder in Serie B.

He's another that needs to start for the Roos, until Harry can get some decent game time. I know Deng had a shocker the last time he played for us, but at least he's playing 90 mins most games in the J League - he could be another option.

No mins for Volpato again in a 4-2 loss. So after leaving Roma for more game time, he's only played 12 mins & been involved in one game this season.

+xInteresting that Kuol is playing on the left side of a front three. I alway's thought his best position was central or right. It makes sense to have him cut in on his preferred right foot and that goal showed why. I'm so happy he finally has a coach who wants to develop him, work out what his best position is and help him grow. Been a great move so far.

This opportunity to face England at Wembley. I'm sure Vopato will say YES for Australia.

It’s so obvious that he is going to beg Australia for a call up I mean Tony Basha was basically pleading on his behalf to the media for ages a couple of years ago. Swear there was an article about him every week at one point.

Just an update on Noah : I had some email exchanges with Jarrad Denham from FFA about Noah's elegibilty to play for Australia. Unfortunately myself having arrived in Australia as a 12 month old baby from France and spending the next 42 years in Australia, being naturalised and only knowing this country as my home apparently I'm still not Australian enough for Fifa to recognise Noah as being elegible to play for this country even though he is an Australian citizen and an Australian passport holder. Under Fifa rules Noah can play for Germany or France unless he comes and lives in Australia for 3-5 years. After those 3-5 years he would be elegible.
But after that disappointment last week Noah got notified by the DFB he has been nominated to join th German National U15 Team for a training camp on the 25-28th of Sept. It's only a first phase. They have quite a large selection that will be slowly culled until the final squad is announced in April or May of next year.
He had an amazing game yesterday gainst Darmstadt while the National head trainer watched.Couldn't have picked a better day to have a blinder. So that's that.

that sounds like a rule that will unfairly benefit european countries. Elite players will always spend a few years in euro countries because that is where the elite leagues are

That's good for his career regardless of country but that's disappointing news on the Australia front. Yet on what grounds doesn't FIFA recognise it? Your being naturalised as a parent of the player, not being Australian from birth? I'm just wondering how it compares to the Boyle, Karacic and Souttar cases and also when the new rules came in. UK nationality laws have about 4 different cut off rates for various criteria so I imagine Noah might just be regulated by the fresh batch of rules vs current Roos being under a previous set.

at the moment there is more good news than bad news
good news 1) metcalf getting more minutes this year, with a lot of them in midfield, scoring and assisting 2) genreau keeps getting starts 3) O'niell has started a lot of games though his touches per 90 are well down on his a league stats. Hope he improves 4) Silvera getting time straight away 5) Circati starting and topping seri b 6) garangski starting and scoring 7) bos starting straight away 8) Mabil moving to a good league where he is getting game time 9) Ryan at alkmaar 10) miller getting starts 11) atkinson reclaiming his place, devlin and rowles holding theirs 12) luongo and burgess getting plenty of time in a team doing ok in the ecl 13) yazbek getting plenty of starts for a time chasing a uefa spot
bad news 1) Souttar getting frozen out 2) Hrustic getting frozen out 3) mcgree needs more game time 4) disappointed there hasn't been more time for neiwenhof 5) volpato falling out of favour 6) Triantis getting no time yet
too early to tell 1) Jelacic in norway 2) Tilio at celtic
did I miss anything?

It”s because no Grandparent, parent or the player was born in Australia. I still think it’s something that could be challenged. The funny thing is I never lived in France or have any deep affiliation with the country.Yet Noah is eligible for France just because my parents were from there and immigrated to Australia when I was a 10 month old in 1967. I believe an influx of Brazilians into Foreign squads made FIFA change the rules but then it discriminates against me saying my 42 years in Australia has no weight at all.

I think our League One cohort doing what's required and more. Yengi recovering after a great start and Robertson doing exactly what's needed at this career stage. It's great too how Silvera is getting scorer points when even making a Championship team sheet 12 months ago would've been the wildest thought ever. AMB benched is very negative. Teague getting out of Portugal is good. I'm still confused how Francois makes an EPL bench but ok. Watts, Gilsenan and Marlee Francois all need to be integrated in national team aspects at some point if their form improves. Gwargis an interesting one without scorer points this season but playing first tier in Sweden on loan.

Thought it might have been the case. Makes sense for the 3 Roos I mentioned to be eligible. As you said, a certain residency time in Australia would annul the block. Catch 22 is also, going to Australia for that time would surely only happen after all decent European options are exhausted, which would suggest not being of the grade for the European clubs, and in turn, also unlikely to be of the standards for Australian national teams anyway. Eligibility aside, Mooy is the best example of someone coming back home then going abroad again so it's all about lifting one's game throughout the career.

Nothing wrong with that imo

Burgess in Championship team of week. Metcalfe surely next in line among the only two midfielders to make the Bundesliga 2 team of week as centre backs, wingbacks and the two chosen midfielders all had blinders. It was a top round of football.
