McGree much better in second half and fans are very satisfied at the goalless draw against Brentford. Fans particularly happy how well McGree held up despite not being a left back. He'll be out of there come June anyway.

The first sentence was confirmed by players playing in the Croatian league decades ago.

Many European leagues  feature this phenomenon. Like H Split and Dinamo Z, they have two or three dominant powerhouse clubs, often with European pedigree, while the rest of the clubs play at a much lower standard.

Wait... is this the real decentric?!?!?!

The great one has returned!

For context we only have 4 active players in the top 4 leagues but only a very few are getting on the pitch on a regular basis.

We need to build that top 4 league representation as well as increase the amount of players outside of that especially in first division leagues.

For comparison our Asian neighbor Japan have around 10 in top 4 league representation and the rest in very good leagues outside of the top 4.

'Top 4 leagues' isn't the be all and end all though. For instance, whose got the better players - Celtic or Spezia/Benevento/Koln/Arminia.. The marker we used to use at least when we were referring to the golden gen was top 4 leagues or a Champions League Club. Celtic, Red star and these days Midtylland are big clubs finishing in the champions league qualification spots every year.

The biggest thing is playing against the best opposition weekly.
You’d rather someone like an awer mabil playing as much as he does for the worst team in Italy than the best team in Denmark.
If he was at say spezia he’d be playing inter, juventus and the like every second week

I'm not entirely sure about that. I'd like to think the confidence and success at the best Danish club could potentially outweigh the strain of playing for a team at the bottom of Serie A. It's an interesting topic. I do agree the bigger opponents present the better challenge.

ACL qualification: Petratos played 103' for Al Wehda against Iraqi Airforce Club but lost on penalties.
67' for Ruka against Tel Aviv
Full match for Degenek against Partizan.  Red Star still undefeated.
Full match for Delbridge at DM against Suwon. Don't know what the story is with Antonis.

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Strongly disagree. For attacking players it's much better for them to be in a top half team. Playing at the bottom of Serie A he'd get one chance to attack per game if he's lucky. A top team in a weaker league sees him with way more chances and more time with the ball at his feet as opposed to simply tracking back and sitting deep constantly.

Again this hard to compare to different leagues, however its the not point about this topic though.

If your are training and playing against better opponents and your teammates will increase your level of not only the playing pool but also overall strength of the national team and how it can go against higher level teams.

The 2006 team had 10 top 4 league level players and that experience playing for and against them was a different maker in under pressure situations that got them into a second round.

At the moment we dont have enough players at a higher level right now and probably was a factor in Russia when you make mistakes or dont take your chances at a higher level you often get punished.
We have alot in Asia and maybe 3rd tier leagues if your want to classify them as such but not enough in the next calibre of leagues at the highest level.

Lets hope this changes in due course but its very rare to get a national team to perform at a higher level in a World Cup and go beyond a second round without it, which is why we should be aiming for more players to be playing in top 4 leagues but also in decent 2nd tier leagues like Holland, Belgium, Portgual etc where they are also very good leagues to play in.
Costa Rica was an exception in 2014 where they made the quarter finals but its very hard to do.

Here is an interesting question how many of these guys have champions league or Europa League experience?

I’m not even sure 2014 Costa Rica was an exception. They had one of the top goalkeepers in the world in Keylor Navas, I think Joel Campbell was still with Arsenal in 2014, Bryan Ruiz was with Fulham in the Premier League, Giancarlo Gonzalez was at a Palermo then when they were in Serie A, probably missing a few others as well. I think they had one or two La Liga guys too. That was a talented team.

Gonzalez was at Columbus Crew in MLS during the WC, earned a move to Palermo on the back of it. Same as Navas, earned a move to Real Madrid from Levante on the back of his performance. They were still good players obviously. But just goes to show how players can lift to certain performance levels, especially Navas.

There were only 2 top 4 players in that squad at the time. Navas and Junior Diaz. Campbell was on loan at Olympiacos and Ruiz on loan at PSV(later earned a full move to Sporting CP) Then a smattering of Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Russia and the US based players along with the considerable amount of domestic league players. So I would say they had the quality clearly there, but definitely punched a lot harder than one would have thought.

but things will change with the upcoming champions league expansions. the biggest 32 (36?) teams in europe will be effectively playing each other in a second league.

In all honesty at 21 he is seen as mature in Europe. He would be better off staying here and doing really well then trying to go back. Although the way his season has been you would think he will be nothing more than an average a league player

depends on the player... some players aren't built for dominating games for big clubs they thrive more in a counter-attacking environment... that's Mabil... he would do better playing on the counter against big teams.

Ouzounidis starting. Goal Francois. When will this translate to senior football? They'll likely be farmed out to League One at some point. Plenty of football there and the league is improving. Nevertheless if they were better they'd be around where Watts currently is.

Ouzounidis is on last year of contract and will be leaving on a free during transfer window. I think he’ll start down the pyramid at league 2 or lower
Francois has another 2 seasons to make first team and was supposedly close before getting injured this season that kept him out a long time. If Fulham drop down to championship next season that would be his make or break time. If they stay up, he’ll get loaned out. I still hope for him and his brother Marlee but then again I had high hopes for Ben Folami and Antonis Martis playing back in A league this season

We cannot compare the past with now. So much has changed so looking at which players played in the top leagues 10 years ago means nothing. Most of them would not now make those leagues (all else being equal).

And thats good news because it means our current crop isn't that bad as everyone seems to think. All each player needs to do is play well in the leagues they are in. The top 20 leagues in the world are all decent.

Play well in those leagues, have confidence and when the national teams come together we will do well.

Coach will need to have a well organised counter attacking team with some clinical finishers...

Also need a world class keeper
