This is actually really sad. I know it has completely changed and nothing like it was. So many good memories as a kid watching this from midday sunday.

Meh. I stopped watching the show or reading the web page years ago. Lucy Zelic was the final straw.

The site and coverage has been average for a long time.
Having said that SBS does nothing like it’s original charter and is a now a service for yuppie middle class white Australians.

It is very sad to see what SBS has become.
I know change is inevitable, but to the extent they have given up on our game and many other aspects of programming that they used to do very well, it is hard to watch play out.
I do suspect that the ABC and SBS will eventually become one organisation. Endless funding cuts leave them both with little room to survive on their own, with duplicated functions and facilities just adding cost.
From the days of Sunday’s full of football coverage to today, we just lose more and more avenues to engage with the game as a whole, and just shows how far down the priority list our game now is.

Four four two and the World Game are the only sports sites I read. Very sad!

The most multicultural broadcaster has lost interest in a game played by all the cultures of the people that watch sbs?! Brilliant 👌

The most multicultural sport in the world was hijacked and "ethnically cleansed" by a shopping centre mogul and his mates who then took it away from SBS for good....

Not only did the new FFA treat the ethnic clubs as outcasts, let's not forget how Gallop treated SBS when they were paying good money to broadcast one game per week, and getting the best ratings we have ever seen. I guess that's the price of being mainstream.

Whether SBS is once what it was is a fair discussion but with that website going I think there's only 4 or 5 dedicated football journos in Australia. It's a bit ordinary.

TWG died when Les passed away. SBS have made their sentiments regarding football very clear.

Pretty gutting but to be expected tbh As others have said, SBS has gone to the dogs with its transition to a more quirky version of the abc in an attempt to stave off budget cuts. They are supposed to be a migrant broadcaster and it's clear that as the interpretations of their charter got looser, their football coverage has gotten worse.

With Johnny, Les, Pasca, Foz and all their affiliates gone, Sbs are cannon fodder anyway. Let the yuppies have it and watch NB-who cares.

+xLes Murray will be rolling in his grave. Sbs had lost its football culture years ago. Good if the fox football presenters get a gig with Stan and 9 for that matter, after the contract rights ends in July, its a good culture building, Harps, Peacock, Boz, Slats, Peacock, Zappers, Homer and the recent young English callers of late. The Optus football team with Bayliss, Bridges, Schwartz, Aloisi etc are a strong footbal team/culture already.

+xThe most multicultural broadcaster has lost interest in a game played by all the cultures of the people that watch sbs?! Brilliant 👌 It's not really their fault For as long as there is a Coalition government in power you are going to see continual funding cuts to the ABC and SBS that are mostly motivated on political ideology. The Libs and the Murdochs would love nothing better than to see SBS and the ABC be shutdown, and then we would end up with an American style PBS type broadcaster that receives zero taxpayer funds and relies entirely on donations from the public. So from the broadcaster POV, the first areas that would be cut back would be sports broadcasts to save on costs, which would now be seen as an extravagance.

Let's hope the a league settles on a platform with that sort of pre/post game line up behind it.

I'm shocked that none of these out of work Journos have not yet started a site to report on football and sell advertising, maybe this will be the catalyst

+xI'm shocked that none of these out of work Journos have not yet started a site to report on football and sell advertising, maybe this will be the catalyst There have been a few attempts haven't there? It's not as easy as that. Why isn't this site going gang busters? (used to get five times the traffic it gets these days) Barely any football articles make it to the Roar these days. Might be lucky to get one every couple of days.
