There is a difference of a league trying to maintain itself in record to create a second division and ultimately make an open pyramid rather than this. This whole comparison to A-league is just mindless waffle again done by the same blokes over and over again. People for whatever reason, do not understand financials and structure. If the Australian football market (the general population who watch/play football and all potential sponsors) actually wanted to speed up the process and make it happen, it would of already happened. Not enough of the Australian football market cares at all hence the slowness and frustration.

How is it different? The A league is a closed shop, this proposed new league is a closed shop.

Even if you are correct about everything you say the A league should still be open to teams with money, ambition and merit.  Like it is in EVERY OTHER COUNTRY IN THE WORLD.

So Lowy followed the Crawford report? hahahahahhah Oh man, thats gold. AND it recommended the league needed to be replaced? hahahah
This mythical report has become like the Bible, no one has read it but everyone seems to quote from it ....
OK, Ill leave you to your thread about how terrible it is that a bunch of rich owners want to establish a closed off cartel super league separate from all the other teams in their respective countries... totally different to the Aleague which only does it because we are unique?
BTW If I had an agenda against Autralian Football I wouldn't dedicate so much of my life and money to following my club and country around.

here you go mate... have a nice good read... you will know what everyone is talking about now.

The time for diplomacy is over, the Confed and fifa have to come down hard on this.
Expulsions for any participating team's, exclusion for any participating player in any international fixtures, removal of any association additional positions if theyre seen to collude with the break away.

While it shows how bad the current set up is here, the NSL clubs argued for this type of concept ffs. They were totally against pro-rel, let's not forget that.....

Also, Lol at FIFA, UEFA etc trying to be the good guys. They're all wankers.

A lot of those clubs are the ultimate in plastic commodity football anyway, so this is hardly surprising.

It's probably just a bargaining play, would be great if it backfires though.

So Europe copies Australia... no P & R ... play across different nations...

Interestingly ..... VERY INTERESTING.... would a 20 team ASIAN competition work,

Australia 6 teams
Malaysia 6 teams
Indonesia 6 teams
Singapore 2 teams.

I'd take an ASEAN League (with pro/rel to respective countries) any day. Much more opportunity than what we've managed to obtain within our own shores.

There can be no doubting this as it's come the day before the UCL negotiations were due to start.

If you remove the quest to 'qualify for europe' out of every league in europe how many leagues will become boring as they only focus on who wins and gets relegated. Creates a lot more meaningless games, even the 'Super' games are meaningless as there's limited knock outs.
Why shouldn't Basel, Galatasaray, Leverkusen, Rosenborg, Leipzig, Leicester have a chance to compete in a european comp? There's just no way this can happen

All fans globally are opposed to it. Players oppose it. Managers oppose it. All clubs not involved oppose it. Governing bodies oppose it. Broadcasters oppose it.

Well you'd still have the UEFA Champions League, you just wouldn't have any teams that compete in the European Super League in it ... and as much as people complain who do you think the masses will watch when given the choice between Real vs Man U or Basel vs Leipzig??

This talk comes up fairly regularly in Europe, and seems to usually be a ploy for the big clubs to either get a bigger slice of the pie (in Europe) or altering the Champions League to favour the bigger clubs more so.

No, there would be no champions league. How can you have a champions league without any champions?
You can't have a Rangers v Rosenberg comp as the champs league. Or having a team that finishes 7th in the EPL  qualifying.
There would just be a larger europa league.
These super clubs are already the richest in the world, and they just want to guarantee that no other club can ever compete with them ever again. Imagine if Man City could suddenly spend an extra few hundred mill a year - how does anyone compete with that? No more Leicester, West Ham, Everton etc pushing for a place

Assuming this isn't a negotiation tactic. Why has the entire world pissed their collective pants on this?

I haven't found a reasonable, well-made argument against this yet. As I understand it, the foundation clubs have no intention of leaving their domestic competions. Have they said they will not compete in UEL or UCL yet? Not that I can find.

So that essentially means they're keeping their current obligations, whilst adding what is essentially an ICC type money-spinner 'competition' to their schedules... So who cares? Who is the victim here? If the supporters feel they're being gouged for more content, then don't subscribe, you haven't lost anything.

"This will kill grassroots etc" - How? Why?

"This is just a money grab by rich greedy faceless.. etc" - Yes, and? That's how football generates money. Except for these clubs want the ability to do for themselves (since they're the ones generating the vast majority of the value) and not be 100% subservient to UEFA, the apparent gatekeepers to football competition, who essentially make competitions to spin money and validate their own existence.

"All fans globally are opposed to it. Players oppose it. Managers oppose it. All clubs not involved oppose it. Governing bodies oppose it. Broadcasters oppose it." - this is not an argument, if anything, it reveals something far more sinister and psychologically telling than football clubs with huge expenditure creating potential revenue ventures.

Isn't this just a localised ICC that runs mid-week? Did we see the same reaction for ICC?

The fact that ALL media are singing the EXACT same song, and everyone else is following the tune on this news is fucking scary, to say the least.

This is a replacement for the UCL. And therefore replaces the qualifying components of European football for all the major leagues in football. Teams don't qualify on merit based on performance, it's old rich clubs guaranteeing themselves billions of dollars. And no one wants a bar of it.

The absolute state of UEFA or Premier League “condemns any proposal that attacks the principles of open competition and sporting merit”.

'You can't compete with our monopolies that only we are allowed to create and govern! That would be anti-open-competion!'

Up is down, war is love... etc.

No one's "pissing their pants", alot of people are disappointed.

There intentions of staying in there local comps may be heavily jepodized by there chance of playing in a domestic competition in the future if UEFA deams it so, not to mention the jeopardy this does to players who participate.

As for a reasonable, well-made argument against this.

How about this if it succeeds it means that arsenal could be crowned champions of Europe, after coming in lower than ninth this year and can't be knocked out, and Bayern Munich the winners of the CL last year, and winners of the one of the Strongest league's in Europe will have to go through a playoff, just to compete against them, because they chose not to be part of this stupidityreasonable. Basically doing what they did to the ereidervise  but to every other team.

Me personally i hope they do it, and i hope FIFA come down hard really fucken hard.

Why is this in the Australian football section ?

Shows you all that is wrong with football in this country, when more people are discussing this rather than local football.

You know what a difference between a full time professional to a semi pro environment looks like?

The Crawford report recommended a full time league to replace the NSL which had no legs anymore.

This is an completly different situation here where the clubs had no control of running their own clubs from the FFA (now FootballAustralia)

Anything to throw your agenda against Aus football, well done...anyway stop ruining threads like you always do.

Well said Barca, he is just a bitter person angry that his team was not included in the A/L, the NSL had 40 odd years to get it right and still failed.

Thanos doesn't appear and place a crown on anybody... If Arsenal win the ESL, they will win the ESL. Who are the ICC winners? Does anybody know? How could we possibly not know who the international champions are? Have you ever googled WBA, IBF, WBO etc.

If you don't subscribe to the ESL, why do you care who or how Bayern qualifies for the competition you don't care for? They're not obliged to compete in it either.

Again, the UCL remains as it did yesterday unless UEFA expels you. With who does the fault lie here?

"If your for this shit, your an idiot" = emotive ad hominem screeching = not an argument.

Where does it actually say that? I can't find it from anywhere but questionably-faithed media. Happy to wrong.

It doesn't, but you'd have to pretty, pretty thick not to understand what they're saying.

Do you honestly think they're going to be playing in two concurrent mid-week european leagues? Extending their season's to almost 70 games a season? No way. There's already too many games for the big clubs, cup comps, european comps. Players can't play 3 games a week every week of the season. It decreases their capacity to perform at the highest level.

And why are the biggest and richest clubs, that already have massive advantages over all their local rivals suddenly afraid of earning their place in the elite league based on merit? Are the really that frightened by the likes Leicester, West Ham, Valencia, Atalanta, Schalke that they're not backing themselves to perform better over the course of a season?

If you have a bad year and miss out, it happens, you rebuild and come back stronger. Rewarding mediocrity is against the very foundation of competition.

The fault lies with the trying to put self gain before the collective good.

If you can't see the what the big 12 are attempting, than me explaining end results is a waste of time.

As for the boxing example, you are aware what has happened to that sport?

ICC?

The ICC trophy? Pakistan won it, but your aware that is sanctioned by the ICC, thus the name. This is an international trophy too. So your comparison is well off.
