including two years in Bain's private equity group.

The private equity firm that now owns Virgin Airlines.

That guy being on the board of the APL & now owning 33% of the league means that they are serious.

It also means that the clubs & by default Australian professional football are vassals of a private equity firm, remains to be seen how serious they are about their investment or whether Australian football is nothing more than an offset accounting exercise.

Imagine if South didnt make it into a NSD.All kinds of mental.😀

Hahahahah well maybe we won't but all I ask is we have a chance to earn our way in?  Don't care if it takes 40 seasons, will be there through thick and thin.... No need to stress though, looks like the plastic franchises will  be immune to the full pro rel, at least for now......

According to Bossi in the SMH, FA's share of the equity sale (5%, or $6m) will be used as seed money for an NSD with a 2023 kick-off AND a Women's FFA Cup. Talk is of a single division with pro-rel to the lower tiers immediately (A-League may have to wait), with a mix of new clubs in regional areas and existing NPL clubs in metro areas.

So all the NSL bitters can start popping their champagne corks now, starting with you, Monoethnic Social Club!

Fantastic news...... if it is true. I'll wait for further details before popping any corks just yet but promising nonetheless. Still uncomfortable with equity in the professional leagues being 'sold" away  but agree the cash injection for a newly focused FA could be a great thing for Australia Soccer.... time will tell
One thought about women's FA cup though. I  am all for the idea  but how will it work considering 90% of Aleague players play for NPL clubs? For example Hellas are playing Calder ( soon to be re franchised as WU) in the Victorian Cup final yet a big chunk of our players ( due to delayed covid affected season) are  now with their part time Aleague team for the summer and aren't available to play ....

So    basically,   the   old   FFA   built   a   league  valued  in  the  vicinity  of  half  a  Billion   dollars   in  only  around  15  years  (even   after   covid)  ....

And  for   how   much   of  that  did  the   new  FA   give   the  league   away   for  ?

And     now  the   APL   have  sold  off   One   Third   of  the  league  ( on  top  of  whatever  share   they   had   already  previously   sold ) ,  for   some   cash...

Remote baby, as mentioned previously, that third buy in from Silver Sovereign from USA, is going to second division for the mens, and an FFA Cup comp for the ladies. Yipee then aye?

I      await    Remote      control's      positive     response     .

Neither a positive or negative response is warranted.
Whether this was a good idea will be known in full in 20 years or so.
The APL has swapped  some upfront cash ( a lot of it) and has traded away 33% of all revenue in perpetuity.
It's a pretty fool proof deal for Silver Lake, they cannot lose out of this deal.
It remains to be seen whether it's a good deal for the APL.
If revenues stay static for the  next 3 or 4 years, that will basically chew up the whole of that upfront payment, while Silver Lake would just about got all of its money back without raising a sweat.

Looks like we might finally going to get the NSD with this, after all it can’t come with crucial investment which this private equity investment will potentially bring in.

The game’s biggest weakness has been under investment or the lack of investment in general, so this could be a potential game changer for the sport.

All depends on what they do with it. Sounds a lot but can go pretty quick.

They've (the APL) have 'identified' 8 areas where they want to spend it.

This is good no?

I'd say so, I'm just reflecting on the people & money involved in the whole thing.  I find it fascinating.

So they have an injection of 140 million....

That's pretty nuts to be in that position from where they've been in last few years.

As first revealed by The Herald in October, the A-Leagues struck an agreement to sell a 33 per cent stake in the competition to Silver Lake, sealing the largest single injection of capital into Australian football in the game’s history. The sum values the entire A-Leagues organisation at $425 million.
