It seems he isn't interested in pulling on the shirt.

Let him go.

He is hardly the sort of player to have the Aussie mental strength shown by  so any past and present  Socceroos. If he never pays for  Italy at senior level, he could regret his decision to knock back Aus in the future at the end of his playing career.

Probably regretting. But no one thought we would get through the group. No one thought highly of Arnold. Maybe if he plays instead of Mcgree he doesn’t feed that ball to Leckie.

The good news is he will probably be warmer to representing Australia given our success at this tournament.

Fuck him, we don't need Italy's scraps

Wonder if he’s regretting his decision. Born and bred Aussie, can’t tell me he wouldn’t be proud like the rest of us.

I fell in love with the game during the WC in 74 & love the Socceroos, so every year we didn't qualify in those 32 years was painful to me.
However remember in 1977 we lost to Iran & finished behind Sth Korea & Kuwait, they were amateurs too, in 1981 to New Zealand, even bigger story for them, NZ were amateurs. Horrible.
In 1985 we lost to Scotland, Frank Arok wanted to play Scotland in 35 degrees heat in Darwin but SA wanted the money & we played them in MCG in a mild Autumn day & drew 0-0 after losing to them in Scotland.
In 1989 failed to get past Israel, not exactly a world power in Football.
In 1993 we lost to Maradona, where the Vidmars brothers starred.
In 1997 lost to Iran, as big as 2005 was huge, this was the biggest disappointment.
In 2001 we lost to Uruguay, but beat them 4 years later. I was there & 32 years of pain came pouring out as Johnny scored the penalty & later I was in Germany when Croatia B drew with Croatia A & qualified the Socceroos for the first time into the 2nd round.
Probably don't have great memory of 1977 failure, but the others are embedded in my mind.

yeah so we were knocked out by the 5th placed asian team twice and the 5th place south american team twice and new zealand once. If you take the last 8 years where we stopped being solely reliable on cahill, we have qualified finishing in the top 4 in asia, knocked out the 5th based asian team twice, beaten the 4th place concacaf team and knocked out the 5th place south american team. Thats not to say things didn't reach a high in the end, but the nsl era wasn't 30 years of harry kewell and tim cahill and the a league hasn't been 17 years of ruben zadkovic. We've taken two steps forward and one backward looking at the average and with the old nsl clubs put into a national comp and reintegrated, hopefully its another 2 step forwards (and probably one backwards some how for reasons I'm not predicting)

Decent ?, thinking back it was unbelieveable we made it to me.
My era, infact one player started at my local club, Murray Barnes, a benchi but good luck to him he got picked, his Roo shirt is framed at the local Clubhouse..
TBCH back in those barren days (32yrs) as a kid I don't think we really even bothered thinking why didn't we qualify.
Football was so off the media radar and general discussions only those invested knew about it all.
As mentioned such part timers, up against everything, we were a project and dream of those involved and also scratching for any red cent you could find to travel let alone pay players so I find it sad how much later dawners bag those 32yrs, we were a distant backwater to the Euros let alone rest of the world and a thorn, let alone a laugh to our own main population.
Turn it up guys.
Lets give some credit to where its due.
Also that pock a poop system from far far away presented
Bartz being chased by United @ 17yrs signed for 2yrs.
Mention of Kangaroo Johnston @ 17yrs Boro rest is history Legend for me, wonder why haha.
HK @ 15 Leeds - I won't bother with the rest who followed HK/Dukes but you get my drift.

The best thing AL brought was Professionalism, I'm thankful for that  and needed to come and qualifying x 5 great ! is no diff to '74, we suck in the Grp stage, thats it thats all we get out qualifying every 4yrs of hard work and still the same outcome with so so much more resource than '74.
For the same outcome - tells us even with the pro AL x 17yrs we're still way off being competitive in the games that really count (NT) and gains you Football recognition/credibility.
We earned it through that GG era despite some posting up facts/graphs BPO crap, we had a core that got known and grinded out some impressive games that people noticed in the global Football family.
We hardly blink an eye to date now but ironically a young Volpato has got more global headlines than the entire Roos squad with Koul thankgoodness.
Says alot what our local comp has not delivered in the vein of 32 dry yrs.

No victim here buddy. I am proud of who I am and who I support. I refuse to let you or any other person on here tell me that the birthplace of my parents doesn't allow me to be Australian  I can be whoever or whatever I want,  I have two drivers licenses, two passports and one birth certificate and you can go on considering your heritage a "problem" all you want ... I celebrate mine.

You crap on about agendas but you also happen to be the only one left on these forums (thankfully Paulie has now transformed into a beautiful Lowy loving remotecontrol) that seems to have a racially discriminating bias against certain Australian Soccer Clubs. Wonder why?  And, for some reason I am not yet entirely sure of, the only time in history that they whree permitted to compete in Australia's top tier soccer competition , seems to draw this massive hatred from you..... Are you defending your plastic entertainment franchises perhaps? hahahahaha that is sooooo cute.. Your NOT defending football in this country Robbos, lets be clear, your defending plastic garbage.......

I have never mentioned your club & or who you follow, & I've never had any issue with it. I couldn't care less if i tried of who you follow. It's not about YOU!!!!
Well I'm off to the Sydney Derby today with 35K, I'll be there with all my other woggy friends who all have 2 driver licenses, two passports & then we will all have the world cup to enjoy, following 2 teams, The Socceroos & our parents heritage teams (Viva Portugal), all except my Greek (they used to not participating) & Italian friends, they only have the Socceroos to follow.

I like your approach grazor, I really do. Ill try to keep the glass half full but Jesus mate, its gets cracks in it all the time :)

BTW, Australian Soccer was only accepted as a FIFA member in 1956 and also was suspended between (I think) 60-64 so to make a WC in 1974 with players ALL part timers from a state based comp is a pretty decent achievement.

I mean we didn't qualify before 1974, so hard to buy that was a golden era either

There have been ups and downs throughout our history.

We had a brief period where we produced a great generation and managed to beat the 5th placed south america team, qualify for the confeds final and make the round of 16 over around 8 years and have a bunch of players playing in big 5 leagues in a 100 year history. Incidentally this era corresponded to when p&r was removed from the nsl. Probably that wasn't the reason - every sport from olympics, to rugby, to cricket to rugby league produced a golden gen around the same time. Countries sports cultures go through highs and lows

I think we have never had 2 national divisions with the top division getting crowds big enough for main stream appeal, sustained across 2 decades aside from covid. We have never had an era before where football participation numbers are this high, we have qualified for 5 world cups in a row due to the stability of being in asia and having a professional top division mainstream appeal. We have the ffa separate from the governing of the top league. The NPL has improved in quality, the kids playing underage are better than any of us have ever seen (I would give credit to the ntc) and there should finally be pathways from the top to the bottom being introduced. Football has never reached its potential in oz, and has faced challenges a lot of people seem to gloss over. But at some stage you have to take a glass half full approach surely?

As for Volpatto, sorry cant claim that one ..... he left the very same glorious non-wog league you are glorifying after not having enough "metrics" about him.....

Now since this 1974 WC qualification was pre NSL & definitely pre A-League we are in neutral  territory!!!
Now the 1974 WC qualification was huge, great achievement from those wonderful Socceroos, it was my first world cup, I could nearly give you the lineup,  I was hooked. Did you know that they beat other part timers in Asia to qualify for that WC. There was not any professional leagues in Asia as that time.
Did you know that when Celtic won the European cup in 1967, all the players were born within 30 miles of their home ground, does this make Celtic achievement a thousand times more than Liverpool's 6 European Champions/Champions League victories?
WTF??? Hahahahahaha Sorry I only followed South Melbourne Hellas in the pre-NSL era so the 1974 WC achievement is "MY ERA" cant be neutral because your plastic FC werent even a thought bubble back then    hahahaha you are such a goose Robbo.....

However your posts says something different, you are still playing the victim in all your wog post.

However, yes you are right we are fundamentally different. I will always want the best for Football in this country & never let my own little pathetic agendas cloud this.

NSL was around for 27 years but you do realise soccer in Australia (even the national team) has a storied history at least 50 years before that right? Even before the World Cup was even a thing. If anything, pathways for junior soccer players BEFORE the NSL were even better than during (although a lot less money involved) and a thriving local comp meant they could see alot more senior football minutes.... The  8  club, foreign, plastic competition dreamed up by Lowy came along and dismantled everything before it for the supposed "professionalism" of the game.. Some goose on here keeps harking on about how the Socceroos couldnt even afford to fly to tournaments before Lowy the white knight came along, never even pausing to think abut how many tournament the Socceroos, Matilda's or any age groups have actually been to in the last 10 years.... What did this revolution bring? Do we win tournaments now? Are we a better national squad now? I would argue that a bunch of part timers qualifying for the 1974 world cup is a thousand times more worthwhile an achievement than our last 2-3 qualifications .... but I guess thats obviosuly just me.....

The NSD is simply a reaction to 17 years of non existent player development. A bandaid to stem the bleeding. I hope it works but dont hold out hope that it will be allowed to.
