Likewise, made the wrong move a pivotal time in his career. Tbh he kinda did 'make it' at a big club.. played a season and a half at psv where he was the backup CB. Needed to go their 3 or 4 seasons earlier though in hindsight when his athleticism was at its peak around 2015. 

The natural leader in the group is most definitely Milos Degenek. He even started basically being our spokesman to the media without being asked to.. and only started 2 games.

Moving forward I think it's Souttar's if he wants it.

There seems to be no chance while it's the John Crawley club but I'd be bringing Gauci and Glover into squads with the view of potentially replacing him before the next WC.

And yes - Souttar would be an awesome Roos captain given that he is probably our best player now

There is no way they will strip Mat(t) of the captaincy and there's no way Arnie, if he stays on, won't want him to play till the Asian Cup

It is just that Sains isn't a good enough player anymore, at the back end of his career.

Degenek or Wright would be suitable as captain, but they aren't quite starting players ATM. Ditto Mabil.

 I think it would be a bad look for Australia, to have someone with such a broad Scottish accent captaining our national team. If Harry could learn to speak with a 'strine' accent, he  could be suitable for the job.

I'm not sure of who from Behich, Irvine, Leckie, Duke or Goodwin, will play on after the World Cup?  Any would be suitable as captain.

never really got the Maty Ryan captain thing... thought sains or a defender is a better option. He jsut doesnt really inpire the lads... Ithink Harry would be much better.

Ryan is a poor captain anywhere. Has no presence either between the sticks or when fronting media. Souttar is a natural leader and will play 100+ games for the Roos.

Mitch Langerak will be 38 at the next world cup.

I'd be happy with Harry but there is no young GK that is pushing Ryan. The older ones that are close or pushing him will be too old for 2026. TBH a national GK coach (not a National Team GK coach) needs to be working with all our younger keepers. 

The guy was authoritative and commanded our defensive line well. If stays injury free, at only 24 he will be the backbone of the squad for the next two WC cycles.

No disrespect to Ryan either but one of the goals for the Roos in 2023 should be to figure out who the next second choice (potentially first) goalkeeper is.
