It goes without saying this is going to massively damage the league and that any pitch invaders who assaulted players should be facing criminal charges, however what happens to Tom Glover now that has been proven that he threw a flare at fans (his crime is almost worse and could have caused more serious injuries then the fans behavior). I honestly don't even think there was malicious intent, i just think he is incredibly stupid.

Is a 2 year ban acceptable, or should he face a lifetime ban? Anyone who tries to defend Glover is coming from the same school of thought as the response by the thug pitch invader responders, so saying that it was thrown at him first (even though is was just thrown carelessly on the pitch) is absolutely no excuse for throwing it back, when you don't have any idea who threw it in the first place.

Lifetime ban for pure stupidity. If Glover didn't throw the flare back at the fans the scenes would have even taken place.
Whatever the punishment is for Victory, this should also be given to City, with Glover to receive a 2 year to lifetime for his incredibly stupid act. As was said what he did had the potential to cause much more serious damage.

the league really does deserve to die then, there has been nothing but contempt for fans since day one. All involved Glover and all fans who entered pitch should be banned. Izzo also had flares thrown on his side of the pitch, he however didn't stupidly launch them back into the crowd.

Will probably get taken to task here, but I'm not sure he meant for it to go into the crowd. He kinda just throws it sideways without really looking and it just makes it in. A stupid, dumb and negligent action minimum but not sure about intent.  That will play a massive factor.

Gotta be some intent, or he wouldn't chucked it in that direction or thrown it back at all. Play had already been stopped, all he had to do was move from his box to an area free of flares if it was bothering him so much.

I guess thats the end of flares. Fans, nor keepers apparently cant be trusted to use them responsibly, if there’s such a thing. There will be a massive crackdown on their use now.

Bullshit.
The way it ended wqould 100% not have happened without it.
Not saying the SHOULD have done it but 100% it ended the way it did coz of his stupidity.
I've been saying for years he is the worst young keeper in the league and it turns out it's coz he doesn't have a brain in his nut

I'd imagine your thingy would be a mix of melted skin and fabric. They burn at over 1500 degrees. It should be a 50k fine if found in possession of one and charges being laid. They have no place at public events.

Are they common in euro football matches? They have been a central point of controversy for as long as the a league has been around havent they?

Nearly every game in Hannover now. Same bunch of knuckleheads trying to prove a point. It's basically defiance and part of the whole ultra culture. While I appreciate the loud singing and banners, the anti social behaviour that extends from it is never fun. Clubs in Germany are fined if their fans use flares.

It's a red card offence. I'd ban him for 3 games.

I sincerely hope the guy who threw the bin gets months in prison.

Dude that throws the bin to go down for assault.
Everyone that stormed the pitch to be banned from games.
Victory to play one game behind closed doors.
Glover to be suspended for 8-12 games.

That seems like a reasonable outcome

A case could be made that Glover did not realise he threw it hard enough to get into the crowd. In saying that, your suggestion of a 2 year or lifetime ban is really rather excessive.

Glover should be banned because whether he argues that he didn't intend to or not, he has done something a irresponsible. He needs to show a bit more care. This definitely does not excuse the fans.

Glover should receive a small fine and a 5 game ban is sufficient.

Wow so flare culture is pretty recent

it sounds like it is hard to stamp out. Most of the war with fan groups was over flares half a decade ago right?

Maybe not the best comparison but you see 8-12 game suspensions in other sports for violent or rash conduct. I think giving Glover such a ban would be a clear message to all players. I think it could be more justifiable if it's in breach of the player code of conduct. There's surely something in there about not throwing things back to the crowd or leaving any foreign object untouched. I'm sure it's in the contract somewhere to then manage such incidents like tonight.

half a decade ago in Australia? I'm not entirely sure but there were definitely fan behaviour incidents among many other happenings that led to a tiff. They've got there way of smuggling them in even with pat downs. Pat downs aren't exactly thorough. Fairly lazy and it's all done by subcontracted security firms who have minimum wage workers. Pure lip service. USA was interesting with metal detectors at games.

A professional sports person whos job consists of throwing has two goes at throwing a flare at a very large target, one which goes very close and onr which hits the target and you think he didn't know what he was doing.  He had intent... twice,  he failed once.
He should be penalised by the league and then the club. At a minimum he shouldn't play again this year and at worse his career could be at an end.

Cantona got nine months for an attack on one person 25 years ago,  we expect more of people these days,  this to me is worse,  he should be punished more harshly.

I didn't say he didn't know what he was doing. I said, "a case could be made", as in if Glover gets called before a board or tribunal, most likely this is a defence they will attempt to use to try and lessen any sentence.

If you read my full post, I go on to say Glover should be punished, but I don't think a lifetime ban is justifiable.

Comprehension is a very valuable tool. Use it.
