Interested how many of you on here will attend/watch the women's world cup?

I'm trying to get tickets to Matildas in Melbourne it's impossible so I think it will be successful like the 2014 Asian cup

Ah yes! Well, I'll definitely be sorting my work schedule to try and watch numerous games. I guess the ones in NZ will be a very early start.

Zero interest.

Patriotism aside, why watch a tournament where the best teams can't beat under 15 boys club teams from their own countries?

From a football perspective, there is nothing else for me to look forward to right now. so yes, I am excited. Got tickets to all 3 Matildas group games, round of 16 and final (plus the warmup game in Melbourne).

I really hope we run a great tournament, so FIFA don’t forget us when we inevitably bid for the men’s world cup.

Definitely. Flying to Sydney to catch a round of 16 game hoping Australia gets through. Bit of punt but should be good.

Not much interest. Women's football is basically unwatchable. There just isn't much competition in women's soccer, so the ones that do "make it" basically aren't very good, there's a huge disparity between the best and worst players on the team, but then they argue they deserve the same pay as the men. Add to that the inevitability that males will soon (if not already) be playing with the women and that will make an already undesirable product even less watchable. I'm looking forward to the day Mike Smith passes to Phillip Bresciano to score the world cup winner for the Matildas.

But... the Matildas seem to be doing well, they are a popular brand and will sell out all their games, so I hope the tournament is successful and that will signal to FIFA that we are capable of hosting a World Cup some day.

All and great focus will be on Oz re womens football.
It ceratinly has great following and I'll be rapted seeing the other codes here and followers cringe.......
Media will be huge, again for the game and we need the publicity locally its a win win.
I only have passing interest as others mentioned, its hard to watch but kudos to them some are good players.
Obviously I'll watch the Matildas with fam and cheer em on, couldn't care being at any ground otherwise would have bought ticks months and months back.

Globally the women's game has taken huge strides particularly as the major European nations ( Germany,France,Spain England and the Dutch ) have started to take much more interest and invested money and time into the game. Also the Matildas seem to be gelling into a competitive unit under Tony G so hopefully will progress far into the tournament.I don't think they will win but a quarter final berth or even a semi final berht might not be beyond them.

Personally I am not as interested in the women's game as the men's one but as it is a WC will try to get to one or two games ,particularly if my 7 yo grand daughter expresses interest.

For the code as a whole I hope crowd attendances are strong. The media love that Australian women's cricket team who are the great white shark in a very small pond  and of course if the Matildas don't win the anti football types will say how superior the cricket team is to the footballers, forgetting ( on purpose) our girls will be in a much more competitive tournament.

There's little buzz about it at the moment but once the PR machine and media gets going I think interest will be high, even amongst all of us here.

I always watch an international game involving the Matildas, not so with women's club football however. That is still poor.

Yeah, have to admit I have zero interest.

In fact, there's a small part of me that ashamedly wants them to fail miserably because of the annoying people I know who would be like "they won the World Cup - they should be paid more than the men, not less" or "Sam Kerr is greater than any male player we've produced" as if the achievements are somehow comparable. Have to work hard at not letting culture wars cloud my judgement.

Yes it is true tho that Sam Kerr is greater than any male football players in history of Australia. She is the only world class footballer from Australia. She is Lewandowski or Haaland for women football.  Of course male sports are at higher level so you can't compare male & female in the same competition just like all other sports. We should be proud instead of wanting em to fail.

I will be travelling from Tassie to watch the Matildas vs Nigeria game in Brisbane, then going to Sydney for the Semi Final and final.

It will be great having a home world cup and I hope that the organisers deliver a really good event.

Nah. The standard of the women's game is appalling and therefore you can never compare the ladies to the men. If you made George Blackwood play against u14 GPS sides he would look world class Halaand esque as well.

Sam Kerr is a bit like Rhonda Rousey, she looks good because the standard of the competition was so poor. Then overnight the standard improved a little bit and she was found out as a dud. If you had the same participation of women playing football than the men then maybe Kerr wouldn't even be in the Premier League. Or maybe she would. No one really knows.

Well you can say that with cricket then. Only 25 nations playing and Aussies & India thinks they r ruling the world.  You said if there are more players playing maybe Sam Kerr wouldn't make the EPL ,  maybe true but as of now you can't deny that  she is the world best female striker same as in tennis men & women shouldn't be compared.

Well what if  Australia & USA didn't have AFL & NFL and soccer is the number 1 sport I can guarantee you Australia & USA would be some of the best football nation in the world.

Nah. Female swimmers are awesome. Completely different sports. One is raw speed and endurance the other is more skills, tactics based, so very dumb to compare. There's a huge participation of female swimmers globally so you know at the olympics you are seeing the cream of the crop. There's only a few professional women's soccer leagues globally so its pretty easy to rise to the top when you're competing against part timers.

Yes I'm very excited!
Missed the Matildas game in Melbourne (my own fault...forgot to set a reminder for when the tix went on sale). But will go to a live site to watch that one.
Got tix to the Matildas game in Brisbane. Looking forward to the trip!

There's only a few professional women's soccer leagues globally so its pretty easy to rise to the top when you're competing against part timers.

There could be 10 major leagues and millions of participants getting paid millions a year and you still wouldn't respect their efforts so don't pretend you would.

You'll find a way to hate. Just like you always do.

As for swimming being representative of the cream of the crop. Pffft. Half a dozen rich countries take out 90% of the medals. Would be lucky to find a 50m pool in Africa, Asia or South America.

And the peanut up above hoping the Matildas get beaten so we don't have to hear about them. Give yourself a punch in the head. Of all the stupid takes this is a new low.

Instead of being proud that our girls are competing on a world stage in a world cup in a sport we love you and people like you find a way to denigrate their efforts. Congratulations.
