Nah. Female swimmers are awesome. Completely different sports. One is raw speed and endurance the other is more skills, tactics based, so very dumb to compare. There's a huge participation of female swimmers globally so you know at the olympics you are seeing the cream of the crop. There's only a few professional women's soccer leagues globally so its pretty easy to rise to the top when you're competing against part timers.

Have a look at the mixed medley relay in Tokyo, the backstroke leg for Australia is the women's World Record holder Kaylee McKeown, she is miles behind the men in the first leg.

Why am I some sad pathetic clown? Because I don't watch women's football. That's about 99% of the Australian public. Are you a sad pathetic clown because you don't watch the W league? Genuine question, what is it about the W league that you don't enjoy? Imagine if all the virtue signalling Muz's in the world actually got behind the womens game, not just with lip service and token gestures, but parting with actual money, then the girls who train no less, committing as much time as the fellas might actually earn some decent coin. And also Muz, not everyone who doesn't like W football is a nazi. I certainly hope you don't infect your kids with such hatred and intolerance for those with different perspectives.

Oh you got me! Game over....

I don't go and watch the hockey or athletics but if it's on the telly at the Olympics I'll watch it. Does that mean I don't like it because I don't normally attend?

You're a sad pathetic clown not because you don't watch women's football, you're a sad pathetic clown because rather than just say you won't be watching it you use the question as a platform to put the boot in.

Does it make you feel better to denigrate our women footballers representing our country in what will be this year's biggest event?

No one cares if you don't like the W league. Don't like it, don't go. The constant need to put shit on it, and pretty much all of women's sport by you, and your ilk,  is bizarre. Do you apply the same logic to the NPL?

EDIT: My original post was edited to take out 'sad pathetic clown'.
And I notice D2 is back posting. Coincidence? Leave my posts alone cobber.

Women's football is piss boring , it is slow, cumbersome and technically shyte.  Watching the A league is barely watchable, then you throw in the women, and I guess that's why only 153 can be bothered turning up. The results speak for itself.

What I  find good about ALW and Matildas, is the tactical and structural side that makes the game interesting.

Even if they lost games to various Under 16 men's rep teams, or senior NPL men's teams, where they would be slower, less athletic, possibly less skilful and have less strength, these women are pros.

What stands out as eminently superior to men's semi-pro, or top amateur male football, are these superior  aspects of the female game at pro level.

*  Higher level of insight/game sense.

* Quicker speed of thought.

* Superior tactical nous.

* Better team structure and organisation.

*  Pro  female teams playing against each other tend to have much longer periods of sustained possession. There is less Contested Ball Phase (Defensive and Attacking Transitions). Conversely,  male NPL teams spend more time fighting to maintain the ball, making it scrappier.

Don't get caught at your at your lack of knowledge on it.
I'm a huge swimming fan & being Australian huge fan of the women's swimming team.
But a Kyle Chalmers 13 year Australian record in the 100 free is faster by a fair margin than the current women's World record.
Most 14/15 year boys swimming at National junior levels would be faster than the women's world record.

Not disagreeing with you Robbos, simply building on your factual point.

This is what I can't understand from the women's football haters. It's fact that males are physically bigger, stronger and faster in general terms. It's also a fact that men's sport has been professional for a LOT longer than women's sport. It's so redundant trying to point out that teenage males can "beat" adult females in a particular physical pursuit.

But as people like roosty do so oftern, they contradict themselves and say swimming there's no difference b/w men and women. Because roosty has no interest in swimming and watches it every 4 years in the Olympics. Then they compare mens and womens in a sport they love and they feel threatened because of talk about equality and fairness...and they can't separate in their minds from the times they've perceived to not had equality and fairness in their own lives. So their paper thin ego and lack of empathy for others leads them to anger and they lash out.

No need to be disingenuous.

No one watches female swimming and thinks “oh gosh they are so much slower than the fellas this is so boring”.  A competitive female race can be as thrilling as the fellas. Spectators cant really perceive the differences in speed, technique etc and it doesn’t detract from the end product.

Not so with women’s football, evidenced right here in our own backyards by the paltry attendances in the W league. Clearly there’s a large disparity between the gents and ladies in terms of skill, speed, technique, etc and the end result is a poor quality product and overwhelming lack of interest.

I agree with your point that people like myself feel threatened to talk about fairness and equality in terms of woman's football, because woman's football is not equal. There’s a broader discussion to be had about women’s pay and what constitutes fairness etc but that’s not a reason not to enjoy the sport. The reason not to enjoy it is because its palpably poor quality and in this congested sporting market there are better things to watch. This is just my opinion and there are thousands who will put aside similar attitudes to watch the world cup, but they will go underground again as soon as its over, therefore depriving female players of fairness and equality.

Splitting hairs

Not Spitting hairs, providing facts.
Yes you don’t like women’s sport fair enough, your call.
Anyone with any semblance of knowledge of swimming can see how more powerful stroke the men’s are and the turns.
yes you can see an exciting women’s race, Titmus v Ledecky proved that.
However also at the Olympics the Matilda’s game against team GB was awesome in the theatre sales.

No one cares how powerful stroke the mens turns are. Literally no one gives a shit. All spectators see is people thrashing about in the water trying to get to the wall first. There's little to no difference in entertainment value between the gals and guys.

I never said I didn't like women's sport, I just don't like women's soccer. I also don't like women's cricket and women's rugby. It's crap. I would rather watch paint dry.

Haha I understand what you are saying, but this is also a matter of opinion. While I much prefer male football, I quite enjoy women's football especially when we are talking about the elite level at the Olympics & the World cup.
One of the most exciting games I watch last year was at the Olympics where the Matildas & the team GB went toe to toe, it was not at the level of the WC final in the way of technical skills or ability, but the theatre of it all was equivalent.
I'm a stats man & when I see the times of the Olympic swimming, I know the times are generally 4-6 seconds slower in each stroke for 100 metres.
However like the football I'm able to appreciate the difference.

This is a really important point. I watched the game, I remember being amused at the standard, but also enthralled at certain points of the game. The theatre of the world cup and Olympics will always draw bums on seats, but for me the end product is just too small to sustain my interest for long periods. There also seems to be a strong correlation between countries who have invested heavily in women's football and outcomes, so the yanks again will probably romp it and take advantage of lesser developed nations.

Yea, but its heavily pronounced in football , because there are some countries taking it seriously, whilst others are slow to catch on.

I'm excited about the Women's World Cup.  I'm doubly excited that it is being played here. I am also as excited when the Matildas play an international game as I am the Socceroos.  Whenever a person, whether male or female, puts on the national shirt I will support them.  I won't be going to any games for health reasons but I will watch all the games I can.

On the matter of equal pay, professional players get paid according to their ability and the club's ability to pay so players get paid different amounts and professional female players get paid less than men as a result of their ability to generate less revenue for their clubs.  When it comes to representing their nation all players should get the same whether male or female and they should get paid the same whether they play or not.  The value of being a national representative is priceless and remuneration should take account of the honour bestowed on each individual and not be excessive or tarnished with arguments about unequal worth.

Apparently the first country in Africa. Beat South Africa to the punch.

I was surprised too.

Sierra Leon GDP per capita is about $500, so equal pay wouldn't be much (Australia's GDP is about $65,000 in comparison).

Does that apply across different sports or just within the same sport?  So for example should the national badminton men and women get paid the same as the football men and women?  The honor bestowed is the same for all national representatives isn't? If not, why not.

Its not really the same thing.  Its not just about the time.  The swimming technique (to my admittedly causal swimmer eyes) between male and female swimmers isn't vastly different. OTOH Women's footballers are comically bad.  The keeping for example. That's analogous to watching the 100m free-style and the women are doing dog-paddles

When you're talking about professional sport, you're talking about money.  Money the sport generates, money that players get paid, money gets put back secure the future of the sport.  Is it fair and equitable that a sport that generates a fraction of the money pay itself and its players the same as a sport that generates many times more, simply because the sport being played is the same and its played by women?

If the Matilda's make a mint at the WC, they should get it all.  Same with the men. If they make nothing, they get nothing.  Why is that not fair or equal?

20000 at this game.  A League can dream I guess.  Pretty sure they get paid well enough in this comp.  Was good to watch even without Messi or Ronaldo.

Well said.

People should remember the men agreed to the pay deal and took a cut so the Matildas could get equal pay for internationals.

I'm in the same boat for internationals. It's the same job. That job is representing your country. So it's a no brainer for me. They should get the same.

To preempt Enzo's next question yes I think the men netballers should get equal pay to the women netballers if they're playing internationals.

Should they get paid what the Matildas get well that's up to their federation. Pretty sure match payments for internationals vary across different sports based on what those sports can afford.

Would imagine the hockeyroos get bugger all for their match payments. Could be wrong about that but at a guess I'd say that's correct.
