Such a shame that Garang got so little game time. Thought JCP was awful, so many turnovers, clueless with the ball at his feet. All up we didn't learn much other than our defenders and midfield are still awful when put under pressure, we struggle to score against a full defence, tap ins don't really do much to show our development either. A couple of sharp goals here and there. Bilokapic was awful, and shouldn't be anywhere near national team setp for another year or two while he works on his game, hopefully via a loan Sadly none of this squad is a regular starter, which at their ages is a sign of the huge lack of development in Aussie players. Almost every single player (aside from D'arrigo and Triantis) is a reserve team player or a bench player. Get match time at senior level or retire.

+xAn insightful tournament. Quite a bit of joy and some hair pulling moments too. Bilokapic: Some good moments but definitely won't be playing for Huddersfield. Needs a loan and more education. Cox: A simple half of football. Needs minutes for Adelaide reserves Cook: Exciting prospect but will be behind Sail at Perth. Talbot: Did well in his games after arriving later. I was surprised he was captain. Italiano: Surprisingly good at right back. He needs to move to from Gladbach for a permanent first team role somewhere. Viktoria Köln is nearby. Rawlins: Kinda annoyed he didn't get more time at RB. I expect he'll be wedged between the first and second team but it's pretty easy to still get minutes for Jong Utrecht the following day. JCP: Good long passing and defence. A good Roar season beckons. Bility: Lack of club minutes showed. No idea where or how he'll end up. Trewin: Steady performances and should feature a lot for Roar. Triantis: Came in late but played well. European journey begins. Farrell: Good assist to Botic but a silly sending off. Mauragis: Healthy competition building which will keep all left backs on their toes. Jelacic: mixed displays but it's so exciting for him to go to Gent now. Nieuwenhof: Hasn't been able to shine as much as he does for WSW. Teague: Featured in every game. Did very well in some. Otherwise didn't really stand out. It's really time for first team football. D'Arrigo: Becoming a senior member and is nearing 100 A League games. We're stacked in midfield. Thurgate 2.0 and he might fancy representing Malta. Hollman: A real breakthrough tournament in awareness for many. Next A League season is big for him to kick on. Francois: Good to see him live. Loan needed in the EFL. G. Kuol: Finally some longer periods on the pitch. Got a lot of class and will get a decent loan we all hope. A. Kuol: Lack of game time showed and now it's time to make important club decisions. Peupion: A few bright sparks but he didn't dominate as highly as his stature suggests. Tilio: Knocked about but still going to be very good at this level. Vellupillay: Started with a bang and should feature more for Victory next season Botic: A tidy finisher with scoring instinct and hopefully his best season is yet to come. I thought G. Kuol and Botic were our best. My expectations were high but I thought Nieuwenhof was disappointing. So good at WSW and didn't capture that form in this tournament. I'd have liked to have seen Peupion at 10 instead of wide. Italiano could make a good right back. Talbot looked good there and agree would liked to have seen Rawlins there in his natural position. I reckon our best 11 for U23's would look really strong.

Just a few things Courtney Perkins is on loan at Brisbane from a polish team so I think he'll go back there. Also the way d'arrigo sings the anthem I don't think he'll play for another country

+xPanama 4 Mexico 1. Sheesh. That part of the world has very peculiar ways of play yet the goals somehow go in. I'm referring mostly to how attackingly weak Panama, Honduras and El Salvador generally are. Costa Rica are typically better however. Panama are an example of how results should be taken with a grain of salt at this level. Judging by their technique they are unlikely to do well at senoir level and improve much. France also conceded playing out from the back. As long as we can cut it out at senior level its ok
unfortunately we are, at least for now, making those mistakes at senior level

Crazy to think we could have won the tournament if we didnt panic against Panama...but we did well even with the French were slightly younger than us but we were the better team overall and could have won by more too.
Hollman as a No.10 did well because he offered more in pressing and off the ball movement to someone like Jelacic who is more of a luxury player, by if the former can improve he's finishing he's value would go much higher for me. With Hollman today, Jelacic and Tilio whom we saw little due to the knock he picked up its good to have options in that position with slightly different skill sets in that crucial No.10 position.
I also dont know why Peupion and G.Kuol have to job share the right wing position, surely someone isnt capable of playing on the left side or is Vidmar too scared to try? Velupilay and Francios didnt offer much for me.
But overall a good tournament where we did well but also learned some harsh lessons with international football too.

+xNice punch by Cook. French player wasn't even shit and actually put his hands on Cook's knees but has gone down like he's been shot. It looked like he poured Holy water over his nose and he is fine now

+x+xSo Mexico beat France on penalties. Australia play France Sunday 10:30pm. Despite the disappointment of not going for the title, a game against a French side is a good way to gauge the level and a better TV time. It's a very young French squad, not their full strength u23 team It's their U18 team.

Couple of Ligue 1 players on the bench and Tel from Bayern. I hope France make those changes so our players can test against them.

Nicely done. Alou sprints down a backpass and can scoop it up and square to D'Arrigo. 2:0 on ht.

It's nice to see us get a gift from defensive mistake for a change. Great hussle from A. Kuol to create it.

+x+x+xThat's a great cross by Kuol and Francois with a good header that needs and even better save. Francois got off the bench for Bristol City but a full season loan is needed this coming campaign. It was fantastic play. Kuol is pure class. Italiano is lightening quick. So we should start with a right back development program for Italiano now. Weight room and defensive coaching as he was originally a winger. Don't miss the bus like we did with Leckie. Was thinking the same thing. That position is wide open in the national team. It would be amazing to have someone who covers the ground so quickly and has the ability to go forward.

That was a well taken free kick. Worked it to create an angle. Kuol low to the corner. Saved but with Hollman on the follow through.

Triantis had to go to Europe anyway so it's good he could meet up with the squad albeit minimally. Hoping for a good final show.
