There is absolutely no chance of NST going ahead in 2025. The clubs are now split 4 and 4 and other clubs on the fringe of joining have retreated.

Purely one guess here, so no one get mad... There are four clubs in Sydney. And there are four clubs in Melbourne + Wollongong. I know in the past there have been disagreements between these federations' clubs about which season they should be playing, winter or summer. I wonder if that's still a sticking point today. Hence the murmurs of a spring start next year.

good that they haven't given up hope still working towards a lower entry standard, so that means they didn't convince fa of a lower standard yet

No NST mentioned in the tv deal today. I hope it's hidden in there to be activated when NST starts.

+xNo NST mentioned in the tv deal today. I hope it's hidden in there to be activated when NST starts. Read between the lines boyo :) WHAT’S INCLUDED IN FA’S NEW BROADCAST RIGHTS DEAL- All Socceroos qualifiers for the 2026 men’s World Cup (home matches only on free-to-air, the rest on Paramount+)
- 2026 Women’s Asian Cup (six matches on free-to-air, the rest on Paramount+)
- 2027 Women’s World Cup (15 matches on free-to-air, the rest on Paramount+)
- 2027 men’s Asian Cup (all matches exclusively on Paramount+, the rest on Paramount+)
- All Socceroos and Matildas friendlies 2025-2028 (15 Matildas friendlies, 10 Socceroos friendlies on free-to-air, the rest on Paramount+)
- Australia Cup finals 2025-2028
- AFC U23 men’s Asian Cup 2026 and 2028
“It reflects, I think, the growth of the sport, and in particular the brands, the Socceroos and the Matildas, and also the aggregation of all the content that we’ve been able to bring together,” Johnson said. “We are reaching new heights in terms of investment.”Paramount was largely unchallenged in its bidding for the rights, with FA keen to sell the rights to a single party.

+x+xblah blah blah ..... meanwhile clubs aroudn the country arent even sure what league they are playing in next year.... Queensland haven't got that problem, funnily enough Over the past few years, Queensland clubs haven't had certainty about which league they are playing in in the following season due to FQ continually restructuring the leagues, club mergers and withdrawals. This happens without NST. Take last season going into this season for example. In the seven men's leagues in the pyramid in South-East Queensland (NPL and FQPL1-6), where in general the rules of competition say the top two teams are promoted and the bottom two relegated, only one club was relegated out of the potential 12 that should have been relegated.

Mergers and withdrawals create this the world over NPLQ clubs aren't wondering what division they'll be in because no-ones made a decision about a new closed League. The problem is that Cavalluci is doing the opposite to making stuff up, he's following the Qld member rules to the letter Victoria have charged ahead, hoping it'll all work out eventually.

Nothing article. Just another single opinion thrown into the NSD black hole. Also this argument that 'an NSD can't happen until the A-League gets things right'..... 20 years not enough? Is a winter season still too burdensome? Give me a break. A-League clubs are on a different stratosphere to NSD teams. South is talking requiring revenues of $4m.... A-League clubs run closer to $15m! If A-League club's don't have sustainable business models by now, and NSD is the least of their worries.

I find i fascinating that there are so many articles and opinions around how a NSD will never work here and will never go ahead.... Same thing repeated ad nauseam over and over again... If the APL are so confident it's not happening why bother telling us why it wouldn't have worked anyway?

Anyone can write an article about anything and a bunch of people will take it as fact. Right now, unless the info has come from Football Australia or maybe one of the 8 foundation clubs, we can pretty safely assume it's written by someone who has absolutely no clue.

Here's a link to an article in 2017 re the NSD saying, "it’s necessary to have this extra level of national competition in place to help bring life back into the football ‘market’, increase interest and attract investment.”. Ie. The A League needs the NSD so that is can be financially viable, not the other way around like they're trying to push now. https://www.sustainablesportsnews.ausleisure.com.au/news/association-of-australian-football-clubs-reveals-plans-for-national-second/

Not just any opinion Qld Coach of the Year for a club that's won the NPLQ 2 years running, but for some reason didn't apply for NST Didnt get coach of the year finishing 7th with -4GD this year surely? Look I respect the guy as a player and a coach but this sounds like an opinion from a bloke with aspirations to coach in a new Aleague franchise.... As for GC not applying or not being in the running for NST, Ill let you be the judge of that I havent seen anything come from them apart from the below in November. https://www.instagram.com/gcunitedfc/p/Cz2uz96LwKZ/Sure there are "murmurs" of Aleague expansion and franchise XYZ or whatever but who really knows? https://www.ftbl.com.au/news/push-for-a-league-to-restore-gold-coast-united-the-crowds-were-fantastic-609434https://gcmag.com.au/why-the-gold-coast-must-keep-chasing-a-league-place/

The FFA (before they split off from Aleague), the PFA and the APL have been fighting against this for 7+ years now...... 7 years!!!!!! They have had 20 years to become "financially viable", 20 years of free reign and access to fans, sponsors, partnerships and funding that has never before been seen in the game and STILL they are fighting to keep the 99% of us out of the sport.....
