Miracle weaving Central Coast coach Nick Montgomery is set to be confirmed as Hibernian’s new boss, despite valiant attempts by Mariners chief Richard Peil to tempt the Yorkshireman to stay for one more season.

Absolutely devastated for us, but he is so deserving of the opportunity. 

I reckon he’ll have an eye on bringing Farrell over with him, as Hibs’ current LB turns 36 in January. 

He was a shining light (and one of the only interesting things last season) with what he was doing with young players and I was excited to see how Wilson went under him. Massive loss for football here.

Good luck to the bloke.... Success breads success and all indications are that he is a star coach on the rise.... Bad news for the Sea Bogans but also, a feather in their cap in a way... 

It is a professional game and coaches and players move on.Hopefully is a good move for him and his excellent assistant Serge Raimundo.

"Hibs are making progress with their bid to name a successor to former manager Lee Johnson. Despite reports in Australia suggesting Central Coast Mariners boss Nick Montgomery was set to take charge at Easter Road, the Hibs hierarchy are yet to make a firm decision and will meet a number of candidates over the coming days.Montgomery is on the shortlist and is one of several managers to be linked with the vacancy since Johnson left his position last weekend. Former boss Neil Lennon, St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson and Australia manager Graham Arnold have all been reported as targets for Hibs.Patrick McPartlin has reported: “Reports in Australia on Monday suggested the 41-year-old former Scotland Under-21 cap had all but been appointed, and was travelling to Edinburgh having said his goodbyes to the Mariners playing squad but the Evening News understands that nothing has been agreed just yet, with Hibs chiefs still to meet with the five individuals on the shortlist.”

If they lose Monty it will be a shame and hard to replace, I would like to see someone like Ben Cahn be given a chance he's a former CCM youth coach and plays good football too.

Even if Hibs opt for someone else, Monty still might be offered a job soon in Scotland, depending on results. Aberdeen and Hearts managers are both under pressure. So is Beale, although I'd be surprised if Rangers would be interested in Monty.

And Tony Popovic might be offered the job at Crystal Palace when Hodgson resigns.

I love how Australians soak up speculation and rumours as given deals.

Montgomery may well end up being appointed but he has not yet.

Leave Beale where he is, he is good for Celtic.

Neil Lennon, Kilmarnock's Derek McInnes, Stephen Robinson from St Mirren and Ross County's Malky Mackay are the other contenders supposedly. I'd say he is a fair shot. With Sheffield United struggling in the EPL a good start with Hibs would have him in mind (as an old boy) when Heckingbottom (ex Hibs manager) gets the flick.

Kudos to Montgomery, success bring opportunity if this goes ahead as much as it would hurt CCM.
Whilst we pay peanuts who wouldn't venture afar good luck to him.

I highly doubt that he flew halfway across the world just to interview for the job.

If the reports are correct that he flew to Scotland, he's got the job.

And their owner actually cares about the club. See I believe to be successful you need a whole team to be smart and I think Monty is a part of the club but they will replace him and carry on

Piel's in on a curious 3 year probation, with KPI's, might buy them at the end ?

Piel is doing a great job from what I can see. 

They are his own KPIs - not imposed, From all accounts he seems to be meeting 2 of 3 and approaching the 3rd. 

Monty certainly looks like he has

Piel looks like he's sold everyone he's had an offer for. 
Saying yes to an offer isn't hard.
Whether he got the best price would be his measure.

Bottom line is, he could sell the whole squad, start again next year and finish bottom, doesn't matter.

Taking a youth team, adding 286 games to their CV's and selling the one's that improved is a Business Model that looks like it's maybe paid off this year
Maybe all 12 teams should just do that every year.

Agree,  Its one thing to not have a fair match schedule with some teams played twice and others 3 times in a season but this whole rinse and repeat every year must be so disheartening for the players.
