https://www.theinnersanctum.com.au/star-socceroo-set-to-leave-adelaide-united/Fuck me I think it's fair to say we've been through a lot as Australian football fans but this has pushed me over. How do you let this happen? It's not even an Adelaide issue mariners lost Cummings and Perth lost Williams. What's the point of following if clubs can't even retain their players. You might think I'm city fan who gives a toss. It devalues the league it's not exciting and it's not fun to follow. This is on the APL and all the clubs. Huge mistake imo

Fantastic for Craig What about the club The league The fans 800k transfer fee is peanuts Not for an AL club it isn't. Those types of fees aren't falling out of the sky every day. Absolutely it sucks for the fans, especially the Reds fans. Goodwin was a pleasure to watch last season. I bet if the Reds could match the offer they would, but it's way too much. You have to accept our position for what it is. We are a poor tiny little league in a giant global football economy. Support your club first. Players are always going to come and go. Good players are always going to go when a good offer is on the table. It's nice when they stick around, but the majority are going to move on.

Criminal if Adelaide didn't engage the APL and reach into the marquee bucket to match the offer. Absolute icon of the league

@joshmoney__ Understand Adelaide United captain & Socceroos hero Craig Goodwin has played his last game for the Reds, signing for former side Al Wehda FC in the Saudi Pro League. Transfer fee believed to be worth over $1,000,000. More info @9NewsAdel

It is, after all, 299 million dollars less than what Mo Salah passed up to join the sand pit games. Now Adelaide will have $800k Plus a $50K BMW in the budget to spend on a "marquee" :)

Why are we moaning about a 31-year-old in the twilight of his career going to get his final paycheck for his family?
Where are the next Goodwins?

If Socceroos players are ONLY good enough to play in the Alegaue then that is a major worry matey.

It can't be just young players or old players I dunno I'm getting sick of it maybe I'll just watch badminton

Just follow your club and don't worry about what the perceived "quality" of the players is... just hope that it is constantly improving.... and in fairness it is..... Ob-vs I dont watch alot of Aleague but the snippets I see know are 20 x better than what I saw on the park 10 years ago... this is the same at NPL level and at State league level..... ANY Australian player, at the moment, good enough to command any sort of transfer fee (even if it is to those filthy animals in the desert) is a cause for celebration.... Like JC aludes to above, by the time most of our Socceroos are playing in the EPL and the better overseas leagues, they players playing domestically will be at a much better level and pushing to also make the leap....

Some are so obvious - others have to work hard to get there.

The aleague will continue to struggle to retain its best players into the future as the money overseas is simply too good and unrealistic for clubs here to compete with, we should not be surprised by this. As long as clubs get compensated properly they can reinvest that money into developing or finding the next Goodwin, Cummings, Tilio etc.
We are just part of a bigger chain in the football world.

I feel like i say this every 3mos on here - if you revisit my post about the Saudi league becoming a super league MONEY TALKS - EVERYTHING ELSE IS BULLSHIT The SA super league with all the investment being put in it, is probably the best league outside of Europe and South America now and it will only get better. the contact is 3 years 2.5m ie 7.5m 7.5m is enough to set himself up for the remainder of their life (on top of his current wealth) - He also gets a chance to play in a League with Neymar, Ronaldo, Benzema etc - it is a no brainer the 800k fee is the only kicker you would think that AU would of gotten at least >1m for him but the Salary cap hampers clubs ability to get big fees

Adelaide have that much talent coming through that the next ones will be playing. Saudi clubs could put their emblem on every Premier League club, play in England with their squads, it still wouldn't be enough. The crest on the front of the shirt will always be bigger than any name on the back.

I respect everyone's opinion but it's killed the excitement for me. I wanna see quality players in the a league. We're left with players who are just a phone call away from leaving to India or Saudi it rubs me the wrong way

This happens in leagues all over the world, players move on and new ones pop up.Life goes on.

Saudi is more for the top, end of career cash grab. It's been this way for a decade anyway with other Asian leagues so we should be used to it now.
