I think that the Z League will have to go it alone on terms of broadcasting its games eventually because nobody will take a chance on it. Poo+ are most unhappy with their investment and have explored the possibility of extracting themselves from the contract....

So you could have a Z League app. Might be one for RAM to add to his collection of apps....😀

So juvenile.

Good to hear that.

I follow AFL and even the state leagues of WAFL , SANFL and VFL get the one free to air game on channel 7 or 7 mate.

Would the A-league even contemplated having a weekly A-league game on 7mate or channel 9s gem channel?

It doesn't matter now days. 7 has got 7two and 7mate.

9 has gem and go as secondary channels.

10 has 10 peach and 10 bold.

ABC has abc 2 and ABC kids channels

SBS has sbs2 and SBS Vice land. They also got channel 34 or NITV or the Aboriginal people channel LoL.

Imagine having your own free to air channel or Foxtel having a channel just dedicated to soccer ⚽ just like Foxtel has channel 504 which is the AFL channel essentially.

It's just old farts like me who think of tv as ch7, 9, 10, ABC and lil'ol2%SBS....

There's millions of channels when you consider the internet streaming services.

On Champions or Europa/Conference League nights Stan could be showing up to 12 different games at the same time. When lil'ol2SBS or ESPN had those rights they could only show 1 or 2 at the same time.

The reason people don't watch the Z League is because general lack of interest in it not because it's buried away on Ten's digital channel or poo+

streaming and HD channels etc have changed the game so so much.
Forgetting the ol farts who are out of touch but say for eg me who has cought on with most, the only way someone knows whats on and where are the ones invested imo.
Seriously for the casual viewer/random how much time would you channel surf ???? and low and behold they think great I'll watch this APL/AL game ? feck all I would think.
Therefore one wonders how do these companies do the % viewership ranking ? let alone the casual remote surfer happily find the AL.
Subscriptions are not all watch football as well.

The ol FOX days of having so much on the 1 medium are gone, hence they had great subscriptions early days BUT once more opponents came in and cheaper hence their decline, upon losing or shuffling their product needs and why they butted X sports as well having to start up Kayo.

We those invested know what medium we need for our football fixs, some can spend more others not.

Yep at one point in time Foxtel had a lot of clout or respect. Not so much any more.

Streaming offers a cheap alternative.

In the 1990s and 2000s, free to air tv was premium. NRL and AFL negotiate their bargaining power on tv rights.

The worst part about MAFS is it's, hands down, the highest rated show in Australia.

What does that tell you about the state of humanity?

That humanity is awesome lol

Well errr if you go to hotels and pubs or your mates house it can be harder to find ten bold. It's also not in HD so I'd say it makes a big bloody difference

Question to everyone, does the main channel even matter anymore?
I very rarely watch FTA tv, but when I do I don't really pay attention to what specific channel I'm watching. I just go to the guide and scroll until I find the show I want. I'm not looking at the channel names, I'm looking at the show names.
Maybe I'm in the minority group here, curious to hear peoples thoughts on 'main' vs 'secondary' channels.

It shouldn't but the secondary channels rarely outrate the main channels

Strange that Fox (via Codesports) have all of a sudden started caring about football again.
Paramount is garbage (that’s being generous) and Kayo and Optus have huge subscriber bases so here’s hoping we can change carrier after this season.

To older generations yes - main channel does make for more viewers - especially casual watchers. Some people leave tv on almost all day and just won’t even know soccer is on tv if it’s not on main channel

good points mate, the other one is fans are right up close to the playing floor, similar to what many proper small/mid sized football stadia is, you feel hear everything up close.

I'm no fan of basketball but admire the skill of it all but you can see why many start gravitating to it PLUS the game overall has marketing.
The young are being very influenced by the mericans.

It is a sport that is almost "made for TV" though.... I tune in every now and then ...

yes, a few thousand people and it looks full at the stadium, nearly everything in shot and something going on

contrast that with 1.5k at some footy oval in Ballarat to watch Western United against Jets

Hill is right. Fox ditched the game when it suited them most. Paramount is messy also. 10 is bust and it's a shame as it'd be great if they had every single game on.

The APL would stuff it up no doubt and I understand a lot of the tech side is outsourced and costs a lot but why don't they try and create their own network or portal like American sports? The NFL Network and MLB Network are good things. The NFL surprisingly gave their game pass away to DAZN and it's been somewhat worse. With gamepass, the NFL had great control. I know it's a massive difference in scale yet A League being in YouTube with a Slovak VPN makes me think YouTube could be the way to go with a cheap subscription.

Foxtel made sense only as lots of people and pubs already had it for other things.

You'd have to say that the NBL has surpassed the AL now. I didn't want to admit it a few years ago, but they have. I'm not a basketball fan, but even I tuned in to watch bits and pieces of their Grand Final series...

Weird how that works, since you'd expect it to have the same curse as the A-League (being inferior to NBA)

And to think Murdoch wanted to buy Channel Ten not so long ago 😲🤫
Well that was Lachlan.  He has the least brains of that strange family.

All talk is that Sony and Apollo Global are going make Paramount an offer they can't refuse. Well $26B US is hard to sneeze at.

Must be decent enough to be on the main channel?
