This wasn't an official announcement, there's no list of clubs they're after, they just signalled poaching the biggest. They were giving Rugari the "scoop" and getting him to try and sell it. He tried his best but he's a bit touched in the millenials because on the one hand he tries being some impartial observer of the whole thing and on the other hand, roasts the NSD and anyone involved in it on reddit like he thinks you can carry on multiple identities.

Does he have a 2nd reddit username?

I might be misremembering but he was the one that came up with "NPL on planes" wasnt he?
In a way I dont blame the guy, he is "bought and paid for" like most of the media... very few tell it like it is.

It's ok I have Sydney FC, that's my club.

Yeah man, fair enough, good luck to you in the season starting soon, APIA and Sydney U58 look like they will be tough to beat and I hear Olympic has recruited well so top 4 finish would be quite an achievement for the youth team.

BTW what is your take on the APL "commish" coming out with the revelation that now:
In the men's we're a development league, first and foremost"

Does it make the Aleague less or more exiting to know that results and sporting competition aren't really the focus?

It's called reality.

A lot of European teams see themselves this way. Although they say " selling clubs " instead.

Answer to first line, I see 'BLUE', you see 'RED'.

For the 2nd comment, I go back to my comment on Derby & other poorer clubs, they will not win the big competitions.
Look at the sub bench of both Liverpool & Man City this week, WOW, they would probably run 5-6 in the PL if they were to Man City & Liverpool reserves to play.

We are all development clubs & leagues to the bigger clubs & the leagues, even Man City will lose Harland to Real Madrid & Liverpool will lose Salah to Saudi Arabian club. Money talks.
This is how is works I don't like it, but how it works. Like I said I don't follow any PL or the champions leagues clubs (because it's all about money), I just follow the players & coaches (eg Ronaldo at RM, Ange at Spurs).

I have accepted reality.

Yeah mate, agreed financial reality bites the big one... But clubs DO try and compete and results definitely DO matter...  Derby may not win the EPL (anytime soon) but they definitely structure their whole organisation around being promoted up the table to the next stage... or in the case of other clubs, do everything within their power to NOT get relegated... Now that might partially be because of the money on offer at different levels but the clubs also have a responsibility to their fans to compete and win....

Just look at the emotions that come out, in every other league but Aleague and MLS, when clubs either avoid relegation or gain promotion... Actual sporting endeavour means something to the fans and the clubs, its obvious.

Yeah I guess its true in a way however the clubs and fans themselves still wish to see their club perform on the park and get promoted/avoid relegation or to get a crack at continental football.

You can't tell me that Rangers (both club and fans) only pushed to get back up to the top tier of Scottish Prem because of the money they could make selling players?

I have felt a lot of emotions watching the A-League over the years, the Sydney Derby, the SFC & MV rivalry. I understand you don't understand that, but that is your issue more than mine.
See this is the difference between me & you, I didn't follow any NSL clubs, but I could see the passion & I never bagged the league or any teams, just didn't fit me taste. I just tended to be a Eurosnob then.
Whereas you are so anti A-League.

You are now comparing a fan to someone in the Scottish FA, who would think that the Scottish league is a feeder for the PL.
The fan would not think this.
I'm a SFC fan & want the best for SFC, but I wouldn't begrudge our best young player seeking the best for himself.

In a Pyramid the clubs sell to balance the books or to balance the squad

But usually only once they're not getting Promoted, or when they've avoided Relegation.

Big difference to just using the League to create highlight reels

Im NOT Anti Aleague... I just dont understand it... Sure you get emotional over your team winning the derby, thats pretty natural and I respect that, or a rivalry game fine .... but shouldn't EVERY game count towards something? especially if you are near the top or the bottom?

Dont you wish for that do or die fight to the last 90 mins instead of clubs basically on cruise control at the end of the season?

Sure I want Pro/Rel as well, but you get what you put in.

My recollection SFC has been either fighting for the premiership or competing for a top 4 or top 6 place, so always a reason to play for.

Being Scotlands biggest and most succesful club, was the main reason  for getting back up.

The model now, is to buy low and sell big. That is the reality, money rules, or you are just medriocrity.

Maybe half full grand stand overall. At the moment, 2,200 viewers on Youtube.

What are CCM scared of?

If a semi pro NSD were supported along these lines.... would it really be the end of the world?

I don’t believe it was CCM per se, whether it was something the co- chairman decided to say off his own bat or if it was something all the club owners or indeed the APL hierarchy wanted put out there I don’t know.
What I do know is the A League, as it stands now, is unsustainable.

first npl match for me
thanks for sharing the link

quality surprisingly decent

rubbish pressing and squeezing (which you would expect if they aren't full time pros) but technically decent

Which makes me wonder how many of these players aren't getting chances in the a league because it takes them a year to get them up to speed, but if a club did put in the effort there are players that look good enough technically

the nst might provide a bigger shot in the arm than I thought if this is indicative of the npl talent

NPLs on youtube is my main way of keeping up with Australian football domestically. I've lived abroad for 10 years.

This one had comments disabled. But it's quite funny when they're enabled. Very often crowded out with russians. Once I was watching NPL Tas and Russians were mocking "the australian league" as being the same standard as Russia's second division...

Overall, NPL Vic and NSW are quite watchable, so add them to your youtube watch lists.

Depends but for SM for instance, follow them on FB and they put up a teams graphic pre match. Really, these clubs cover themselves on FB similarly to how AL clubs do.

Ivan Franjic, yes. He was at the bergers 2022 and MK 2023.

They usually post the linup 10-15mins before KO mate.

Yes both Franjic brothers are at Knights for the second season running... Ivan in particular is heavily involved in mentoring their youth setup ... Knights fans should be chuffed to have a former Socceroo helping mould the next "batch" of talent at Somers St.

Not the best turn out for the Melbourne derby to be honest... about 2,000 to 2,250 there last night. Was a perfect night weather wise but 8.15 kickoff on a Thursday was an odd time.. Would have got a better crowd on a Friday I think.

NSD SHOULD bring many more out of the woodwork... Was speaking to a few of the board in the club after the match and our membership numbers are very healthy for our last year in the NPL wilderness... Fingers crossed momentum grows from here but crowds of 3,000 - 5,000 will be the norm next year I predict.

Hahaah we try and sit behind the "Dodgy Asian betting guy" sometimes... feed him bullshit about who the players are, tell him the wrong goal scorer, who got a card etc... Some of the comments are hilarious, at one stage it was a whole bunch of gamblers from Uzbekistan of all places.... NPL betting is wild.

rubbish pressing and squeezing (which you would expect if they aren't full time pros) but technically decent

Which makes me wonder how many of these players aren't getting chances in the a league because it takes them a year to get them up to speed, but if a club did put in the effort there are players that look good enough technically

the nst might provide a bigger shot in the arm than I thought if this is indicative of the npl talent

Bit of a blah game to be honest. South are basically a brand new squad and you could tell from the futile attempts at link up play... The intent was there and we where cohesive defensively but should have put away more than one of our 5-6 decent chances on goal... Promising from Archibald, Bonada, Barcia and "Frank" Lampard.  Anyway a derby win is 3 points to kick off the season, Ill take it.

Gully will be fun to watch against Moreland tonight, they have been thumping them in preseason apparently and play very fluid, ball on teh deck football.  Magic v Heidelberg may be the match of teh round ... could be cagey affair with rebuilds from both clubs....

As for players, dont forget that the "consolidation" has not yet begun in earnest. All of the players spread over 14 clubs will be fighting to join the 2-4 VIC clubs for next year... talent is there... Good example is our Harry Sawyer... The only thing keeping him out of the Aleague is a few solid seasons of full time training I reackon... Some of the NST players will be knocking on the Aleagues door very very soon.

first up Thanks Bohemia posting up the VicPL link !
I'm a lazy bugga and seeing the link I went on watching MSC's fellas and MK's 1st game.
As mentioned 1st game and changed line ups need work so not surprised, I actually thought MK retained possesion better than MSC's SMh for longer periods.
Graz, give them all time as semi pros to get up to speed then you'll see some good games.
Watching FNSW NPL as I do its damn competitive and pretty good imo.
The rare times a NPL1 player is drafted is most times when window is open that a AL Club is in injury pickle needing to fill a void, therefore the poor NPL bloke being semi pro isn't up to AL Pro speed in fitness and more times coming off the bench.
In the meantime that player shined through his NPL games but being thrown in the deep end by the AL Club they are judged too harshly and at times played out of position.
Just can't win alot of times and this is our conundrum.
There is alot of good technical players that given the decent chance could prevail alot.
Same applies to the countless U20's who if given more chance in Snr league has alot of potential what we desparately need.

So yer, NST has alot going for it as long as plenty gets bloody well behind it with open eyes and not ol ethnic bs excuse's - importantly supporters.

I'm elightened from my own family perspective and sons mates.
No influence from me might I add, these millenial kids of mine and regular playing mates can't gravitate to the AL/APL.
Sure they have gone to some derbies but really dgaf about it, my boys have said all in to APIA/SU games and their football mates (greeks to SO games) have said they will as well.
We need this work no doubt about it and it doesn't need 5/10K at games.
500-3k is fine by me, I hate large crowds in any case, luv the small grounds, you feel part of the club and game, less que for food and seating.

Ummm, just checked the South v MK youtube link and 13.5 K views in 18 hours  (hhehehehe no they couldn't all possible be me)  considering most other youtube streams from previous years have 4,000-5,000 views max I wonder what was different last night?

A "little birdy" mentioned that the NST "broadcast deal" was looking at ways to "monetise" the Youtube channel and that this years NPL would be a guinea pig.... I dont know anything about it just wondering if anyone has heard anything similar.
