tom waddingham and keegan jelacic?

Keegan is exciting because he is a rare specialist 10 that has for 2 seasons gotten game time in his favoured position (unlike bernando, segecic (8) or to some degree volpato) has also signed for gent in belgium and back here on loan. Played a few games in norway

waddingham is the first player this young I can remember (18) to hold down a starting position and score goals regularly. He has 6 in about 20 games and about 1200 minutes as well as 4 in the oz cup

not mark viduka or aloisi's start to their career, but well ahead of any young player in the a league era

Thanks, Grazor, for providing background on this duo.

Of course I haven't watched them for a while to evaluate  multifaceted aspects of their performance, but it is good to see eye catching young Aussies.

Saw the end of the Roar/Victory game live.

Just caught up with the highlights seeing all goals scored.

I'm hoping Roar fans Waz ( is he still here?), Roar IMB, etc, can fill in a few gaps about some young Roar players. Two have really taken my fancy. I hope they are young Aussies.

The Roar central striker Tommy ? I'm assuming he is an Aussie? He shows good movement and predatory instincts around goal. Tommy looks like an exciting central striking prospect.

The other was a  Roar player on the right flank - Keygan Jatovic?  He demonstrated some really fluid moves in a dribbling sequence, using advanced and hard to execute dribbling techniques to completely wrong foot his opponent,  then to cross for Rojas to head a goal at the back  post.

Not trying to be a smarty pants tsf but he brings the whistle up to his mouth before it's kicked in and the first peep is as it's hit by the winger.

Trying to drop a screengrab in here. Not sure if it will work.

oh, i am not saying he didnt make a completely legitimate decision and do the right thing, but just cause if his actions being a bit slow, be raised his hand after the goal it looked

if it's full time it's full time no matter where it is

having said that I had to ref a juniors game last season, and the opposition had a corner and no time left, but they were down 5-0, so I let them take 4 or so corners in a row in hope they'd score lol

Whistle in mouth

I had seen the screen shot when the first whistle peep was blown, but can't find it anymore (it's just as the winger is about to kick the cross in)

How the hell do some people drop screen grabs in but I can't?

I can't copy direct from browsers, but it works if I use the snipping tool and copy in

Thought it best to chuck it in here and not make a new thread and traffic here is stronger. This full time whistle between Valencia and Real Madrid. I don't know how much added time was used for VAR and time wasting.

What's the law on this? Curious on Muz's opinion. Personally I don't think it should matter if an attack is happening or not. Time up is time up.

Read online this morning that the ref said when they went to take the original corner he said that it would be the last kick of the game so by all accounts nothing to see here

Surprised how convincingly SFC beat WSW in the derby.

Do WSW regret giving Rudan an extension?

Credit Brisbane beating Vic, who are much higher up the table.

I thought Jets played better against CCM than their table ranking suggests.

Vic started the season well but have 11 points from their last 10 games - the same as Brisbane that have had coaching upheaval to deal with as well.

As for the Jets - Stanton is a very good manager with a relatively young squad and he has them well organised. If the  ownership is resolved and they give him time to fashion his squad I think they will definitely improve next season and could yet cause some damage to final contenders this season.

Its Vidmar. What you expect? He wasn't successful in Thai League.  He is known for bad tactic when he was there

To his credit Vidmar took AU to an Asian Champ League final.

Just read this comment from the youtube comments.

'Considering the fact that it was one and a half min on top of the added time. Ref allowed the corner, nothing after the first ball. He whistled.'

Based on that, if true, I'd say fair enough to blow the whistle. He gave them one last crack and the ball got hit out to the right wing and he said that's enough.

Police need to be educated and informed about the fan culture here.

I feel like they apply to what works in the egg ball codes and apply it to football but we know this doesn't work for football and no wonder the police don't know how to handle it properly.

They should spend some time overseas and learn from countries football cultures and how to apply some of that here in a local sense but either its too hard for them or they are just plain ignorant and refuse to learn because this is blah blah Australia...jargin.

Either way its disappointing that football continues to get shafted by the authorities and the media.

You'd think after 20 years they might have a fucking clue. Clearly not.

Bunch of wankers.

As NCB said ref's the final arbiter of time played but let me ask you a question.

You're protecting a 1 nil lead or it's zeo zero against a better opponent.

You've defended like nothing else for the last 10 minutes by the skin of your teeth. Goal line clearances, mad tip overs by the GK, brilliant tackling and blocks.  Time is now up and you've belted the ball out for a corner.

Why is it fair that the attacking side gets an advantage by getting one last go even though time has run out? Time is up. They've had their chance haven't they?

And to take it a step further what if they then score from that corner after full time?

Basically the referee has dudded the defending side and that's not fair on them and their efforts. If you're truly unbiased time is up when time is up.

I know refs allow the 'phase of play' to be completed but why is my question?

Just one other thing I haven't seen the lead up to that cross coming in. Maybe it was already cleared once or even twice and time had already finished. Maybe the ref had already allowed an attack after time and that was the second attack that was well after time.

Maybe the ref had an 8 game multi?

Well.. the referee is the ultimate time keeper. Same thing happened in Australia v Croatia in 2006.

"The decisions of the referee regarding facts connected with play, including whether or not a goal is scored and the result of the match, are final. The decisions of the referee, and all other match officials, must always be respected."

Nothing changes our problem with active is:

There are flogs who use it to be a dickhead in a big group who deserve a bit of policing. Then you have small actives doing nothing that get punished to excessively.

I don't know much about Ultras but I'd say if starts with the club

Ultras often see themselves as a splinter from the club and use the club for their own identity.

I don't know. Do Australian ultras wear official apparel? It's very easy in Germany to tell. People in official kits are not any trouble and it's those in black and their own self made gear that are the risk.

That's where the policing needs to be different. Kids just having some fun vs known and apparent troublemakers.

A bit of twitter footage of police shoving young Roar fans.

What liaising is done between police, clubs and the APL with a policing plan? Mounted police at Hannover Düsseldorf yesterday purely as a precaution and deterrent.

Can't police be informed that congregating, singing and laughing doesn't constitute violent or risky behaviour?

There's not many in the den these days but not really the point. Apparently they've walked out due to the over zealous policing going on there.

Just spoke to my son who said there were loads of police there for no good reason walking around telling everyone in the den to sit down and making a general arse of themselves.

Fuck these clowns. I remember going once and seeing police kick 4 lads out who had their shirts off and were covered in orange body paint. They were doing absolutely fuck all except cheering.

Presumably word came up from down south after last night's hoo haa at the derby.

That and the general hate the police have for football in Australia.

Dunno, maybe RIMB can add more when he gets on tonight or tomorrow.

Afraid not Muz. I could not go to the game this afternoon (no need to worry about me though - I'm fine).

All I can comment on is the game as seen on Paramount+.

Tough win for us.

We did pretty well in the first half with the balance of the game in our favour to my eyes. Hingert beaten for pace and strength by Machach, then Freke beaten by a shot that could have been restricted better and Freke should have covered that near post. Odd not to have O'Shea start and it showed a bit with most of our ball coming up the sides and not so much in the middle other than fighting for turnovers when Victory had it.

Such a nice thing though to be able to bring on O'Shea and Mileusnic instead of just having a bunch of promising youngsters. As soon as O'Shea joined the game we started having a presence through the middle. Far from flawless but a step up from the first half battling.

Waddingham is pointless back on halfway with a turning circle and acceleration of the Queen Mary. He got caught a few times turning blind into a Victory player and giving up possession cheaply in midfield. In and around the box though is where he stands out for us. His frame, his positioning and his anticipation all say that if we can feed him the ball to his head or his feet he is a chance and takes some marking.

Victory's second goal came when we went into our shell and started trying to hold our 2 goal lead - yet again. As soon as we stopped sweating on Victory players in our own half and dropped off them we became vulnerable. That said, Bonevacia's shot was a bastard of a bomb with Freke watching and unable to do much more than throw himself sideways and hope.

If Rojas had the legs I would have brought Majok on for Waddingham instead of for Rojas at that point of the game. You could feel Victory starting to get desperate and a sniff of some control on the game. Having the marauding Majok on at that moment would have forced Victory to keep a few players deep and allowed us to continue with pressure on the midfield.

A couple of fine finishes from Rojas who had a really good game. Freke made an excellent save off Arzani when he strolled through us. Other than that Arzani was a lot quieter than he has been. Some of that is credit to our players for limiting the flow of ball with good pressure in our half. Some of it is on Burke-Gilroy doing another fine shift at left fullback. I continue to like what Burke-Gilroy brings - a big pickup for us.

Trewin had a couple of blips passing the ball straight to Victory players up the middle, but that was all I saw to fault him on. Aldred got beaten a couple of times, but mostly came through strong for us again. Bad news with Neville having done his ACL at training.

Popa's defensive minded play gave us the time and space to gain some control and generate more attacks, and as long as we stood up to our opponents individually upfield we were not really in danger. Had Victory driven at us from the start we might have faltered and been unable to recover. Victory lacking a finisher - when they aren't really lacking finishers on paper - cost them. Fornaroli pretty quiet, Machach making a few dangerous runs, and Arzani quiet left the battle mostly in the midfield or down to individuals against grouped defenders.

I do not like us dragging out the last 10 minutes even when it means we get the win. Seems to me if we played with intensity and forward focus through the end of games we would use up the time more in our favour and keep our opponents on the backfoot. All we did was give them more opportunities to build and control with our stoppages.

An excellent result despite the last 15-20 minute stutter.

Edit: Forgot to mention - our use of triangles and general composure allowed us to draw Victory players over to the side we had the ball then switch it across to the other side. When Victory tried to pressure us we had players offering options forward, in field, or back and it wasn't just passing round the back and then back again. It was co-ordinated control when in possession. It was good to see some of that again.

When I wear their colours, I am the club.

Yeah he is competitive at ten unless we have volpato because jelacic isnt yet blowing teams apart and hollman is a makeshift 10. I agree if he was selected as a winger he is probably the 8th best option at the moment

I think he is like eleventh option.  (No Order)  Kuol, Irankunda, Milanovic, Tilio, Peupion, Rapha, Brook, Velupillay, Chipperfield, Segecic and probably only 5 will be selected from this list. I also disagree with the Jelacic point, he absolutely blew away Melbourne City like unreal performance. He's been back for a few weeks and has been very strong. Jelacic is strong against a low block as well.

I heard they both got a knock in training so didn't travel.

We might not have relegation but there will be a few players and staff on the chopping block with the season we are having

Surely Vidmar will be let go at seasons end?

What a great game the Derby was, great result & the atmosphere was unreal. Pity about the RBB issues.

Assuming he would be selected as a winger, his output is not good enough especially considering some of the other options.
