+x+xMCG what do we as a game do well ? Shoot ourselves in both feet more than anything else sadly. Cant leverage enough having the largest Jnr participation. Cant have all our Feds aligned. Cant unite us. A real shame for its all there to put the pieces together. Abolish the state feds then Now we have a starting point.

Australian football does a good job and sanitising the sport in line with the other sporting codes and not embracing any point of difference.

Goal keepers. Centre backs. Full backs. Defensive midfielders. Central midfielders. Wingers.

What Australian football does better than anywhere else nepotism! Look how many of the past Socceroo's have kids getting opportunities in professional teams. Mark my words, none of them will turn out to be any good whatsoever.

One thing Aussie football nails is fostering a tight-knit community. Whether you're playing, spectating, or even just chatting about it, there's this undeniable sense of camaraderie that's hard to find elsewhere.

The new coaching system is very good in Australia, given Aus is a distant outpost in world football.
I'm not sure how many coaches here coached pre 2008 and attended coaching courses? Then moved into the newer coaching practices? There has been a revolution in coaching.
Credit to Rob Baan and Han Berger for setting up a national system. It has value added to national team performance - given football is a lower priority sport, with Aus media dominated by other sports at senior level, we aren't doing too badly.

+xIf you are looking for what we do exceptionally well, as in top ten nations in the world i would say the follpwong 1) average a league crowds are much higher than transfermarkt values would predict. We are actually quite an outlier, tho not as much as the mĺs. I am prepping a post with some data on this. Globally crowd sizes track transfermarkt value closely 2) our national team elo is and has been way higher than you would predict from the number of players getting regular big 5 game time. If you looked at our results you would predict that we have consistently had 6 to 10 players in the big 5 rather than 0 to 2 over the last decade 3) our coaching may not be top ten but i think we might be one of the few coubtries outside europe and south america to produce a coach in the epl? 4) matildas tend to be in the top 10, the a leagues women in probably in the top 10 and probably top ten in crowds and cash. Would need to check 5) we have more bucket men than any other country in the world Some really good points listed here, Grazor.

+xAL ticket prices for non-members are fairly priced?? Yay 😁 I've recently paid $10 and $20 for a ticket for A L games. Good value.

+xHow many countries have a dozen fully professional teams that didn't exist 20 years ago? Given how little media coverage we get, that the A League still exists is a positive, and it's pulliing in new fans each year. The AL must have peaked in crowds just before the Lowy World Cup push. I think the AL received pretty good coverage in the wider media then. The AL coverage seems much less in the broader media, which is a negative. The standard one pitch has improved, which is a positive. I think there might be more promising young players aged 20 and under than previous AL eras, which is a positive. Another positive is Aus being a part of the Asian Confederation. It has provided plenty of tough games. Also, Asian football may be improving relative to the rest of the world. This helps Aus, despite more tough matches. This makes it harder to qualify for big tournaments, but if we qualify Aus is battle hardened.

+x+x+x+x+xI think we can produce good atmosphere's in games.. Uruguay 05, AC Final 2015. We just stamp out active support instantly.... see the RBB. If we made a-league games proper events with active support allowed. More people would go. Its chicken and egg scenario mate... Young blokes want the type of active support that families and mums wont ever want.... APL wants a sanitised half way house in between which isnt achievable (unless they start with the MLS chansawing logs garbage and Star wars rounds) Whats Australian football does well is alienate the wrong people. Personally I've grown to find the ultra culture extremely cringe. It's good with the banter and that but to many people become dickheads in big groups Who mentioned "ultras"? thats just what the esshays here see on youtube videos and want to emulate... Fact is support differs all around the world, but the one thing Eastern Europe, Germany, Italy, Spain, England, Scotland, Africa, South America, Middle East and most of Asian leagues have in common is that the crowd that rocks up, sings the songs, burns the flares or smoke bombs or whatever and drinks the beers is predominately male and 20s-50s.. Definitely NOT family friendly.... And they are the fans who spend that bit extra on another drink or pie or souva (etc.), so the clubs should be wanting them to turn up, not the mum's and dad's who can't afford the extras. Australia is a nation that panders to the sensibilities of the Karens and Kens like few others...
There are only two intellectually honest debate tactics: (a) pointing out errors or omissions in your opponent’s facts, or (b) pointing out errors or omissions in your opponent’s logic. All other debate tactics are intellectually dishonest - John T. Reed
The Most Popular Presidential Candidate Of All Time (TM) cant go to a sports stadium in the country he presides over. Figure that one out...
