Doesn't look like this would really do much. The majority of clubs seem to already spend under that proposed figure. The usual suspects will still be winning those valuable champions league spots more often than not.

exactly .... half a billion pound salary "cap"?? C'mon its just a push to get some accountability around breaches in FFP by the CFG and how unfair the other clubs find competing against something that just flouts the rules without repercussion...  Give it City winning the prem another 2-3 seasons in a row and the EPL will eventually either fold or restructure... They take football seriously over there.

Their suggested upper cap of 4.5 or 5 times the broadcast money still gives the rich clubs their edge within the EPL (518m GBP limit).

It would be more of a problem with P/R and the history of the league if they made the upper limit within reach of all clubs. The league would not be the same if the big named clubs were competing on an even footing - you could lose Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal or any other club in a season if everyone can theoretically buy the same players.

When I wear their colours, I am the club.

Several news outlets reporting that 16 clubs voted yes and only 3 voted no with chelsea abstaining

Particularly interesting since people here have worried how p and r would work with a salary cap
What is commonly referred to as a 'salary cap' is not just an upper limit on wages. But in reality, it's one half of it, the other half is a salary floor.

The cap, as proposed, seems to be more or less compatible with p/r. The lowest clubs have the option of paying what they want below the cap, just as any other. All that is capped is the clubs that can afford to pay overs. Rich can still be richer.
