A-League players arrested over alleged betting corruption

Three A-League players have been arrested in Sydney over alleged betting corruption.
Strike Force Beaconview was established in December 2023 to investigate alleged yellow card manipulation by players attached to a Sydney football club.
Investigations revealed a senior player was allegedly taking instructions from a man – believed to be offshore in South America – to organise for yellow cards to occur during certain games in exchange for profit.

The number of yellow cards were allegedly manipulated during games played on Friday, November 24, 2023, and Saturday, December 9, 2023, NSW Police said.
Failed attempts were then allegedly made to control the number of yellow cards during games on Saturday, April 20, 2024, and Saturday, May 4, 2024.
At about 6am today detectives executed a search warrant in South Coogee, where they arrested a 33-year-old man.

He is expected to be charged with two counts of engage in conduct that corrupts a betting outcome of an event, and two counts of facilitate in conduct that corrupts a betting outcome of an event.
At the same time, detectives executed three other search warrants in Parramatta, West Hoxton, and Emu Plains.
At the Parramatta address, detectives arrested a 27-year-old man. He is expected to be charged with engage in conduct that corrupts a betting outcome of an event.
In West Hoxton, detectives arrested a 32-year-old man. He is expected to be charged with engage in conduct that corrupts a betting outcome of an event.
The investigation continues.

Trying to work out the players involved. Quite a few 27 and 32 year olds, but only one 33 year old. Very disappointed, really enjoyed watching him play this season.

Sydney FC. 6 reds in the last 6 matches. Wonder what odds that was paying?

Macarthur won 2 of the 4 games in question.

Remember when the Socceroos made the 2nd round of the world cup, winning 2 matches for the first time ever, and the next thing that happened (while the WC was still underway, IIRC) was the APL announcing that the next 6 GFs would be held in Sydney regardless of who the teams were?

Good advice, but really not hard to figure it out.
9 yellow cards were given across those 4 games.
2 of those cards were given to players aged 21 and 22, so we can rule those out.
One player aged 33 received 2 of those cards.
One player aged 32 received 2 of those cards.
Three players aged 27 received 1 card each. One of those players is not currently in the country.
Difficult to speculate on the identity of the 27 year old involved, but the other 2 it's very clear.

I will. I don't really care. Interestingly 3 of the 4 games were against Sydney FC....

I'm not going to do the maths on ages, but every booking from those 4 matches for Macarthur (in order)

the time v money resources etc to pull that off and risk v reward, would not really be in the interests of a billion dollar entitiy one would think. You’d imagine it was lower level organised crime
