+x+x+xI didn't watch it but reading this it seems Kuol was poor. Let's hope Irankunda doesn't go down the same path because Garang left with such high hopes. I have to admit, I was a bit of a Garang fanboy talking him up before he got signed & made the WC squad. Since then it's been pretty much all downhill for him - in hindsight, he should've stayed at least another season in the a league, as he wasn't even starting for the Mariners before he left. No chance this will happen with Irankunda, he started 90% of games this season & was pretty much Adelaide's best player. He's far superior to Garang at the same age, with a far greater ceiling. I still am. Garang's stats at the same age are better than Irankunda. (yes he should have stayed longer). But he has been the victim of managerial changes and illness. TBH I would love to have hom on loan back at CCM. When he is fully game fit and firing he will show his worth. As for his effort last night he had no real opportunities - Spurs had all the ball. I haven't really watched much EPL this season but considering their owners I expected a much better Newcastle side. And sorry - there is every chance that the same will happen with Irankunda. Being the best player in the current ADL team is a pretty low bar and over two seasons he has not got the better of Jacob Farrell. Is the defence in Germany not going to be at least an order of magnitude better. As Arnold said to Garang - you have done nothing yet. The same applies to Irankunda. This will be a huge step up and one that I hope he can make - but history tells me otherwise. You can never tell, the best player in the Man United Youth side that had Beckham, Scholes, Giggs, Butt, the Neville brothers never made it. He was the first to be considered to make his debut & was regarded the most skillful, but injuries & luck was not on his side & he never made it & faded out of football & died unfortunately in Amsterdam at 27 years old. Adrian Doherty is his name, goggle him. So you never know. However, Irankunda is the best young player I have seen in Australia since Viduka (who was the best ever youth player in Australia) & whether he can make it or depends on his work ethics, mental capacity, injuries & luck. However, for Australia's sake I really do hope so, love another Dukes (though in different position) level player in the Socceroos.

+x+xChrist almighty the excuses. You reckon the Toon don’t have top line quacks physio’s etc plus a mental health coach to make sure players are in good mind and able bodied to be incl in a line up - let alone a Mickey Mouse game. Then it’s against Angeball lol You guys are entertaining got to say. Would it be any different against City or Liverpool? Some teams just suffocate the opponent. The ball was simply held all the time by Spurs. Newcastle got it and lost it very quickly. No wonder there were so few touches. This stint was no different to games in pre season to just get on the field and get a feel again. If it weren't clear already, a lot of Newcastle fans are saying the entire thing was a marketing stunt in the first place. johns, not sure you watch spurs games, mind you Toon sure would and play them - considering it was a exhibition game they and I all know too well Spurs all season most games have the highest possesion stats near on every game so nothing new there to those in the know. Correct when your lacking possesion when you do get the ball hang onto it, importantly your first touch needs to be on the money. Call it a stunt, a farce whatever of a mickey mouse game doesn't mean you don't give a shit nor don't put in goos effort when the ball comes to you, eyes are watching regardless. Comments from my daughter from the ground the intensity was far better/lifted by both teams when most of the Jnr's/academy players were on 2nd half. Therefore that was his chance to show not us more so the coaching staff watching. Same applies to any young up and comer.

Incoming Balin Trev. 😉 yep Europe extremely tough on G Kuol and Irankunda yet to test himself against top defenders/keepers. Few people already mentioned Kuol needs more physical bulk/strength- at least Nestory has strong solid build already (bit like Messi has) Garang still could come good but I think Nestor has better potential. Long waiting game to find out…

I turned on last 15, I was shocked how bad he was, that was not normal for a player who has been in Europe all season. Can;t blame illness he's a pro at a club with huge resources. They're not putting a sick player out there in a pointless match

+x+x+xWe’re starved of top footballers to watch here but because an Aussie may or may not get a game you don’t watch. lol I mean yes 100 times yes Why should i care about a couple of random brittish teams? Hope the code makes money, but im not tuning in unless kuol is subbed on. Happy for those who enjoy it I guess but not for me I'm the same. A friendly involving two teams that'd rather be on holiday. Didn't even turn the channel over. I watched from the 70 minute mark when kuol came on albeit in the background since i had a work meeting

+xSo just realized the two touches i saw were his only touches. If i havent mistaken their identity (was watching at work) i dont think they were bad touches His first touch was on the sideline with his back turned to goal. He had a really nice touch so the ball was behind him for him to run onto it. In the a league and even in the eredivisie this normally beats a player but the player was well positioned so he turned the ball over. It is rare we produce a player who can be effective with poor body shape In kuols case the right thing to do there is to glance before recieving the ball. A big difference between the a league and epl is how often players glance The second touch he again recieved the ball in poor body position but was still effective and able to turn around, advance the ball and release the winger. However the pass was overhit His much bigger problem whether at a league, eredivise, spfl or epl friendly is his ability off the ball. He needs to be much better at finding pockets of space. His touches per game are really low. He has compensated for this by his quality on the ball, but the defenders are better, as we saw tonight, and even at eredivisie level it can nullofy his qualities a bit He is very young and will improve. Apologies if I misidentified which touches were his, was watching at work His stats showed He touched the ball 4 times and turnovered 3/4

He looked ill and raw tonight. It can only get better. I know it's a farce end of season game but once again, he was played here as a lone striker against Angeball post a hospital visit. Yeah shame this is his first impression. Should get more time on friday. He gets so few touches that he really needs to make every touch count Difficult to tell his level. On the ball, apart from the last month or 2, he is already epl level. Off the ball he is below league 2 level. He could struggle to get game time in league 2 or get lots of game time in champi9nship depending on his luck and whether the coach rates him. Really hoping for a stroke of luck for him soon In hindsight I wish Newcastle had just taken care of him in their reserves from the outset. Hearts was stupid in the end from all parties. Played out of position. Volendam was good up until Christmas so it gets a pass mark. Just imagine a dusting off in the lower tiers over the next 12 months. I still think Carlisle and Paul Simpson can set him right. Simpson is excellent with young players and can guide him. Morecambe had up until recently only 1 registered player so they'll need players.

+xBased on that Koul will never play a competitive game for NU, he should get out before he’s completely ruined. Can't believe it's the same player that captured our imagination 2 years ago & nearly scored the equaliser against Argentina!!! It looks like he's lost all confidence. He desperately needs a loan where he's guaranteed mins. He's still only 19, so has time on his side to turn it all around. But yeah, he's never playing for Newcastle

+x+x+xCan't expect much more of Kuol at the moment. Shot for confidence, recovered from an illness in hospital. The remedy? League 2 loan to Carlisle United under Paul Simpson. Get battered around and toughen up and add some muscle and learn the defensive elements too. Or come back to the a league dominate like mooy did A League doesn't offer enough games still. Lower EFL has 46 League games and up to 4 cups. He may not necessarily be first choice all the time for the condensed A League campaign whereas the EFL forces rotation and guarantees more football due to the minutes available. This waste of time here playing tin pot games if he’s to improve next levels gain bulk and play and play against stronger faster opponents

+xIf Irankunda playing in Koul's spot in this exhibition game he would've done something spectacular. Koul needs to eat more , build more muscle. Looking like Sam Kerr got more muscle than him. And most importantly learn a damn basic first touch. When Bayern comes out we might know that. Honestly though, 95% of Kuol's time on the pitch the ball was in the Newcastle back third.

The penalty shootout at the end was a waste of time, the players faces said it all.
It’s tough for the players as it is with the huge travel, at least the all star game against Barcelona a couple years ago was fun unlike this one.
