Well a pin drop in the big picture - for the amount of $$$$$'s invested over the years any other code would have had to pack up whereas they have the resource to waste and play the spin game to impress.
Not hard to beat aleague with all that money AND our game is not those levels of filling large stads, this was the AL/Lowy red herring, early days of NRL was well supported when there was not much else big on for those behind it, since the tech age/live pubs feeds etcetc people up north don't need to be at grounds anymore - the Syd/Bris fabric is polar opposites comparing to Melbon.

They are averaging 24 at their home games that's more then a league teams and Nrl teams so it's successful for them 

Exactly, the AFL media in Melbourne have convince the people from there that AFL is big in Sydney.

When I drive around the grounds I see kids/adults playing or practicing football, or Oztag (touch footy) or in summer Cricket as well.
The talk in the pubs, offices cafes, football grounds are about the NRL and State of Origin currently, some cricket talk, some O/S football teams plus Matildas & Socceroos.
Very little talk of the swans & nothing of GWS. I love my sport but could not name a player in either team since Buddy retired/left.  

GWS are very successful in Melbourne - much less so in Sydney. If you follow AFL in Sydney you follow the Swans.

Good point re Olympics, I think many of us watch alot of it because many sports are not strong here nor viewed or even played etc....
I think re Olympics many of us get caught up with it because of its variety and you see so many many many top athletes.

I know some people dislike the game (much ike my feelings of gayfl) but having had the fortune of pretty ok hand eye co ordination I've played quite a few ball sports.
I took up golf late 30's or so - formally known as a weekend hacker.
I hover around 18HC whereas obviously these Pros are scratch and under.
Practice practice like any sport, these guys shoot so damn consistant and long amazes me.
You don't knoiw how hard it is to hit a static stupid little ball lol......
