Arnie had some brownie points after the World Cup. He used them all up at the Asian Cup which was an embarrassment. The first two games of WCQ have been disastrous. He needs to go, and go now.

If we replace Arnold, maybe the manager will be big on group mentality so we won't rid ourselves of Behich and Irvine. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't.

Yeah i hear u. I often watch old roos games due to the frustration of not having zillions of top players

Japan indeed has left us for dead, huge connected pyramid with p and r. Their participation rate is 6 million which is quite small for their population we could probably catch up to them one day if we get our act together

I tend to excited about young players because i lowered my expectations. If you compare to the a league era there will be a sharp improvement in the next decade due to the swelling in numbers of youth getting earlyish game time in europe. But we are still well projected to stay down on both japan and our gg.

There is still some hope we could do better by 2032 than what my projection says (which is still a good projection compared to what we have had! Assuming 2004-2007 are as good as 03-00 maybe 10ish players between 25 and 32 who have more than 2 seasons at the top)

If we launch a nsd by 2032 it might be in time to produce another player who reaches an acceptable level by 2032

If we started spending on proper rep youth coachs like we did with jans verseijan (excuse spelling) and qualify regularly for underage world cups that will swell the playing pool in europe a bit more and will probably result in an extra player or two at an acceptable level by 2032

If we brought about a home and away nyl that might have some decent results, though its difficult to estimate how much a nyl helps. The only data we have is that a longer nyl leads to more young players getting a league debuts

If jj is succesful bring about a new state and federal academy system maybe that helps too in time? He mentioned he wants to use the brissy olympics to bring back the ais football center of excellence and next year wants to roll our state academies

A league expansion could help too by increasing the pathways.

If by some miracle we introduce p and r then league quality might rise, making for a smaller jump to europe

The thing about youth development is there is no magic bullet. Every initiative is cumulative and it all adds up.

a lot of hopium there champ

He just shrugs or contradicts the question.

Are the next games even more important now? (stupid question)
- I want to review these first

How did you find the performance?
- I thought the boys did quite well. Tough conditions, sold out. I counted we had 14 fans here tonight.

The boys are filthy at the result. I know I have to go home and have a big think about things.

I’m not usually someone to call for a coach to go, but the buck stopped against Bahrain now it’s past its used by date.

Arnie has got to go as simple as that, the football is atrocious we struggle to score against minnows with respect to Bahrain and Indonesia is simply not good enough for our aspirations as a football country if we want to compete with the top nations.

We are fortunate the World Cup qualification has expanded otherwise we will be in big trouble just to finish in the top 3 in this group.

Lets see if FA have the balls to make the changes otherwise I’m going to call them out if they don’t do anything.

It's a real crisis. I hope he comes up with answers since I doubt we will get another coach (or that it will anyway make much difference). I wish he showed more faith in nisbet. Even if he isn't playing at the same level as the other mids, he adds balance to the xi

Next games are in 4 weeks so it would have to be Rene. No one can come in and have 1 training session. In that time there would have to be a mailing list of the new tactics and plans.

Yeah i can only see us sacking the coach at the end of quals. Such a tight schedule with 1 training session

Really hope he calls in toure, bos, farrel, mcgree, hrustic, robertson and promises a lifetime of carbonara to entice volpato assuming he is fit and comes back from injury. We are in a bit of trouble here...

If you're going to make a change make it now not later. We have been rubbish last 2 games . Harder games to come. I wonder if Rene would apply the same tactics. No leadership on the ground to is a big problem. Why isn't Irvine dragged because his captain. Football Australia has always been to slow to act.

Arnold is contracted "through to the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup campaign".

So, if we don't even qualify, our WC campaign would be over and Arnold would be out. That's how I choose to understand it :)

If they sack him earlier, it's just under two years to pay out. And he ain't on chicken feed.

It's spilt milk but the smart time to replace Arnold was afelter the World Cup. It was stupidity not to do it after the Asian Cup in preparation for the WCQ cycle we're in. You're right to say it will be really tough to do now. The timing isn't great, we missed that.

These last two teams have been hopeless

People saying 'Asia is improving' are kidding themselves. Japan wiped the floor with Bahrain,

3rd rate Euro sides look like world beaters at the Euros compared to these sorts of teams. If Asia is getting better then the rest of the world is getting unstoppable and we are getting worse.

Maybe Arnie can bring back in redmayne and grant to sure everything up - or take the boys there out now for a couple of beers, get some real team bonding going on.

You know what huddo, maybe thats what the people here need incl supporters who carry on quoting badge of honour making WC since 06 saying this with heavy heart.
Making up the numbers and don't bring in Qatar that was a jag and half imo.

its obvious what a huge hit it would be financially/internally/outlook and the hurt we as supporters would go through - in saying that maybe thats what we more so the FA deserve living off the back of the financial pay out (on top of over paying GA) covering Roos/Matilda outlook but never doing anything much about the games structure and competitons/developments thats meant to feed the top in the first place........

Its absolutely gutting seeing whats (NOT) been going on - we should have been progressing long ago you'd think - you reap what you sew as they say.
This whole Australian bubble we're in, old NSL vs AL - the lack of development foresight, broken down 20yrs ago, lack of unity amongst the governing bodies, the recent separation APL/FA, we deserve the biggest kick in the arse period as much as it pains me to say for the buck stops with the FA.
All the above contributes where we are and GA, << he's gutted and can only do the way he sees it but it's not working for us,  Ange must be putting his head down and going same ol same ol bloody australian football has its head in the sand as usual.

GA is a issue And for me also players, I question their quality/ability/menatality though you'd expect good enough to beat Bahrain/Indo all due respect to them we are ordinary and thats GA's game but its the players responsibilty as well..

TSF - we are going backwards !!!!!!!!!
Then I see wait till the next gen Olyroos come to be, yer yer seen this talk since 20yrs ago and ongoing.

See to me it's the coaching LFC.

You bring up WC 2006, the golden generation, I still remember how terrible they were in the Frank Farina era before Guus & how terrible the GG were in Asian Cup 2007 under Arnold again.
We have the players, maybe not to beat the top teams, but we have the players to beat Bahrain & Indonesia.
You don't have to Einstein to know the best we have played in the last 30 years have been WC1998 campaign under Terry Venables, WC2006, the pinnacle, we did have 2 real superstars then in Kewell & Dukes & Ange's 2015 Asian cup teams, they played the best football.
These have been when we have a quality coach who picks & allows a team to play.

Why Arnold picked a team that suited playing Spain, with just runners & no creativity, because against Spain we would have only 20% of the ball, against Bahrain, where they sat back & we had 75% of the ball with no creative players (Goodwin apart).

This is down to coaching.

Agree to an extent.

Asia is improving, the likes of Japan, (i think poised to take next step up, just need a couple of real quality players), Sth Korea & Iran are very strong, they would be very competitive against good quality Euro sides, not the elite level, maybe only Japan.
Qatar, Vietnam, Thailand & UAE have all improved but not the extent to trouble Australia just yet.
However, we should be wiping the floor with the likes of Bahrain & Indonesia, this is just diabolical.

Spot on, 100%. Arnie doesn't pick the right team nor will he unleash the team to play fluent football in case of defeat. He is too pragmatic.
