Mick McCarthy’s squad have two friendlies Down Under, against ‘A’ league side Perth Glory on July 10 at the club’s Members Equity Stadium, and another game, provisionally against a Western Australian state select side, five days later.
The trip will form a major part of Wolves’ pre-season preparations, with the squad departing on July 4 and returning on the 17th.
The Molineux boss knows Perth Glory boss Dave Mitchell from their days on opposite sides of the Old Firm.
McCarthy said: “It will be a tremendous experience for the lads. Apparently the people at Perth Glory reckon that there will be 20,000 watching the games.
“We will doubtless have some new players on board by then and, with 12 days away, there will be the chance for a good bit of team bonding.
“It will be good to meet up with Dave again and I’m looking forward to the trip itself, as it will be my first time in Australia.”
Wolves’ players, who will be based in Perth, have welcomed the news.
Defender Kevin Foley said: “It’s a once in a lifetime’s opportunity. I’ve never been before. It’s a real coup for the club. Perth are one of the top teams out there.”
Wolves Travel Club will be organising a trip for fans.
The club have played in Australia once before, in June 1972 when they played five matches there as part of a combined tour to New Zealand, winning three and drawing one.

Tommycash wrote:Ummmmmmmmm. Are you guys alright ? or did i just see you rank Hernandez above Sikora in terms of midfield Creativity ? granted he only set up one or two goals while he was here last year but look at the players who were beside him. and once again we wouldnt use an attacking midfielder in the proper position. hed be played on the wing or as a CM. Sikora is a versatile player not known as much for these things and from what I saw, sure he was decent in this regard, but he may be playing on our left side and not sure actually how far forward he may get, as in, scoring goals. Not doubting that he's more than capable at our level. But sheesh you under rate Hernandez - Comparing the two, even though they're slightly different players, is quite valid. Hernandez is a World Cup player, an experienced international. Later this season he proved he was the best player in this league. Sure Sikora has not had the same time to impress yet, not in that way, but Sikora won't be utilised in that way anyway and brings other things to the table, like his work rate and tracking back etc... Not dissign Sikora at all, and indeed Sikora owns Hernandez in a few areas, obvious then why Sikora was capped by Holland etc... But the way Hernandez tore up Adelaide and a few other teams later in the season,we won't see Sikora doing that, especially not if we have him deeper or out on the left. But honestly, you may not see that from him anyway. And I was speaking in a more whole sense too, of our whole midfield. Burns does not bring too much new to the table, because he's also a more defensive midfielder. I think you might even be over rating him a little. He's struggling in Romania at present, for whatever reasons - maybe persistent injuries, but he's not seeing regular match time. Srhoj did not have trouble with this, when he was in Romania. Melbourne has Tom Pendeljak, who has long been regarded as one of the better home base midfielders. They have Billy Celeski, who sure did not do much when he was here, not consistently, but he grew a fair bit this past season with Melbourne. And sure they have that traitor Nick Ward, who left us a few years ago. Thing is they even have another Costa Rican international, Lopez, on their bench. So all the parts, as a whole, make for quite a strong line up, with depth. And they did prove themselves, like it or not, with their Championship this season. But yeah I do agree, it will not take much to catch/better them, but we still lack that creative, more advanced midfielder type guy, the kind we had in Trinidad, except hopefully a guy who can make more of an impression. I know, they aren't necessarily easy to find though. Maybe the Marquee striker, depending on who he is, may be enough? As some strikers can be quite creative, versatile etc... So could be a bit of a creator for Dadi and themselves. Edited by gloryperth: 10/4/2009 11:04:51 AM

I'd go for a guy like Juninho, would have said go for him but apparently he retired after he was let go by Sydney. Juninho is the best foreigner we've seen in the A-League, provided the cutting edge Sydney needed and in particular what Brosque needed.

Looks alright I guess. Tommycash wrote:Burns, Shroj, Pele and Sikora would give us the strongest A-league midfield by far. then wigth a marquee striker to partner Dadi we'd be awesome. then with Tando between the sticks and Neville, Coyne, Harnwell, Griffiths/Sekolovski we'd be well on our way to the finals. depth would be our only problem. While I don't disagree with your sentiments, I disagree with your opening sentence. That midfield, while quite good, simply lacks in creativity. Melbourne's Midfield, with Hernandez, I have to say, just tops it, thanks to this key difference. Though that can be said of nearly all the midfield's in the A-L, bar maybe Roar's. We NEED a good AM, a Visa player who can creative for us in that hole behind the front two, or in the space behind Dadi. We 'kind of' had that with Trinidad, but in the end he was not 'consistently' good enough, not in Mitch's eyes and often did not start matches, not later on. Now, if we can find a decent enough player for that area of the park, THEN we would have the best midfield in the country! We need a creative, busy, little #10 kind of guy, who will be the link up man between midfield and the strikers, or one who creates space, through his dribbling ability and little, short passes, one-twos etc... It doesn't have to be a Juninho-esque player, though that would be nice ofcourse, but even an AFC player, like from Thailand, a place with plenty of players with more than enough technique and a few who have plenty of international experience, prepared for the new challenge and may even be quite undervalued/undiscovered by the international footballing community. It's time we started to truly scour frontiers like SE Asia, especially places like Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. We could easily find a 25-30 year old who we could get a number of seasons out of and they end up being our true Marquees, in the end. Wage rate wouldn't be too bad either - they wouldn't require exorbitant wages, especialy not with the Aussie Dollar and lifestyle? Edited by gloryperth: 9/4/2009 10:50:40 PM
