Coyne next to Todd at CB .... I hate seeing harnwell on the bench knowing the type of character he is, but i spose at the end of the day we want the best quality all over the park.
Sterjovski either up front or in midfield ....
boy .... IF this happens, squad is looking unbelievably strong

Imagine the bench we would have picking up Sterj and Coyne, Harwell and Pelle(maybe Dadi or Jelic depending on were Sterj plays). What a squad that would be well Mitch will have done well to put that together.

I agree with Coyne and Mile it would be a great squad, however as the eternal pessimist, whether we get both remains to be seen. I still firmly believe that we need another defender (or two).

Link for that West Australian article posted by Glorious: http://www.thewest.com.au/default.aspx?MenuID=4&ContentID=146252Indeed. :( If both Coyne AND Madaschi are available now, it will be a shame we can't fit both in, due to us having Todd and Harnwell, so alot of experienced boys back there. Cap wise, it 'might' be difficult too. Madaschi might end up at SFC, at this rate. But hopefully it's onyl a 1 year deal and then we can snap him up, after Todd retires! lol Madaschi is still quite young though, his best is still just ahead of him. So he may well opt to stay in Europe and try for a Serie B club, the English Championship or something like that. -=GLoRiOuS=- wrote:If we sign Sterjovski .... unbelievable and I will be stoked.
If we sign Chris Coyne aswell ...... I wont have anymore jizz left to jizz anymore in my pants. Yeah, yeah there will be alot of jizzing of pants in Perth and maybe a few soiled pants over east! :p Edited by gloryperth: 5/6/2009 06:54:03 PM

Good work FP general. imagine if we got Sterj and Coyne. my only worry is room under the cap. still we would be a powerhouse once more.

Thanks Tommy, I already been posted else where, but meh:
Official comment from Colchester on Coyne:
U's Chief Executive Steve Bradshaw has responded to speculation surrounding captain Chris Coyne which appeared in the Australian media.
Comments attributed to the commanding centre half - who joined the U's in January 2008 - suggest that he is considering a future away from the Weston Homes Community Stadium, with an agreement to leave the club already in place.
However, ahead of the Australian's World Cup qualifier against Qatar next week, the U's have confirmed that the situation is not that clear cut.
"As with all of the players, there was a meeting with the manager at the end of the season and Chris probably hasn't played as many games as he would have liked over the past year," Steve said.
"However, there is no agreement in place to let him cancel his contract with the club.
"It seems at this moment in time, he has concerns over his future and how regularly he is playing. Therefore, all parties involved will be having further discussions to clarify Chris' situation."

As I discussed in that other thread, a perfect scenario for us, given his contractual situation, may be to get him on a season long loan? And that way end of the loan, Colchester may be willing to release him, especially as he'd only have one season left on his contract, by then.
Cap wise - I'm not sure of a loan player's status, in this regard? I presume they'd be counted within the cap, but if not, then even better for us, considering the above average wage he'd demand!

im pretty sure thwaite was counted outside of melbournes cap. the host club pays the players club a fee and therefore is technically not paying the player a salary.

I thought that the loan's player salary is included in the cap, regardless if the team pays it or not.

Quote:PerthNow Perth Glory recruit Jelic faces delay over paperwork
PERTH Glory signing Branko Jelic could be prevented from joining his new teammates for a month because of a bureaucratic strangling his visa process. Serbian striker Jelic has returned to his homeland after finishing duties in the Bundesliga with Energie Cottbus.
New visa regulations mean the 32-year-old, who has played in Serbia, China and Germany, won't arrive in Perth for at least another three weeks.
"There's more of an arduous paperwork process now and there's police clearances to be gotten from each of those locations that he's lived in the last 10 years," Glory deputy chairman Lui Giuliani said.
"We'll keep working on it. It's definitely a lengthy process, players with a UK passport are a lot easier."
Derby County signing Andy Todd, who has already made a flying visit to WA, is expected to return later this month.
Fringe Socceroo Jacob Burns is set to join his new club following Australia's final World Cup qualifier against Japan in June 17.
Former Dutch international Victor Sikora faces a race against time to be fit for Glory's glamour pre-season fixtures against English Premier League clubs Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham next month.
Sikora, the left-side midfielder viewed as a key component of Perth's team, had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Friday.
Glory hopes to unveil all of its new signings in the friendly matches, no matter how little time they have spent training with the team beforehand.
The club is seeking permission for the matches to be played with unlimited substitutes.
Sikora had the operation to remove a floating bone fragment that was causing him pain during training.
Club medical staff believe he could have continued without the surgery but elected to have Sikora's knee cleaned up now in the hope he will be pain-free for the start of the A-League season in August.
Sikora, 31, is expected to be back training by the end of the month and is keen to play in the July 10 clash with Wolves and the Fulham match five days later.
But Glory, which has been haunted by the injury dramas of its 30-plus-year-olds in recent times, is likely to err on the side of caution if Sikora is not 100 per cent fit.
The pre-season fixture against Gold Coast in Bunbury on July 25 looms as a more conservative target.
Series tickets to Glory's matches against Wolverhampton and Fulham go on sale on Wednesday through Ticketmaster.
The series includes three matches, with Wolves to take on North Queensland Fury before the Glory-Fulham game as part of a double header.
Adult seats start at $130 for the series, with children $80 and concessions $90.

read that also ...
dammit ... i really wanted to see sikora in the pre season friendlies, and especially up against the quality of wolves and fulham, dam rite we would need him so much! lol
and now with jelic's delay, gosh i hope jelic makes in in-time for the friendlies also as they are only 1 month and 2 days away now!
A depleted glory squad to face the might of the premier league ... we're screwed haha
yet saying that ... as long as we got our full squad and full strength for the season proper thats all that matters

Quote:CHRIS Coyne looks certain to have played his last game for Colchester United.
The U's club skipper, who is currently away on international duty with Australia, has declared his intention to leave the Essex club this summer.
Coyne still has two years left on his contract, and the U's have responded by stating that no agreement has yet been reached between the club and the defender over the cancellation of that deal.
However, the 30-year-old has been a restless figure at the Community Stadium over the last year, and so is looking for a fresh start elsewhere, maybe even back in his native Australia.
“It's probably in my best interests to move on now,” insisted Coyne, who played the full 90 minutes in the Socceroos' goalless draw against Qatar over the weekend.
“Whether it's coming back home, playing in Asia or continuing in Europe, it's something that needs addressing.
“A new manager (Paul Lambert) comes in with new ideas, and he wants new players. The fact that I was going away regularly with the Australian camps was also an issue.
“It's something that might have been of detriment to the club, but it's not something that I would have swapped for anything,” added Coyne.
The Socceroos guaranteed their participation at next year's World Cup by securing a point against Qatar in Doha.
They will definitely finish in the top two of the Asian Qualifier Group A, and so Coyne looks set to appear in the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa, which would satisfy a burning ambition - he did not actually make his international debut until the age of 29 last summer.
Coyne also revealed to the Australian press that he would prefer to play for Perth Glory, if he was to return to the A-League.
His brother Jamie was captain of the Glory last term, while his father John is assistant coach at Football West Premier League side Perth SC. It is understood that Sydney FC are also interested in signing him.
On answering the question of his preferred destination, Coyne said: “In a perfect world, I'd say Perth, but the A-League in general would be great.
“I'd like to ply my trade in a country that's given me so much, and I can hopefully give something back.”
Coyne actually played for Perth SC before his successful move to England in 1996, which began with a stint at West Ham. He only made one appearance for the Hammers, before venturing north of the border to play for Dundee.
However, it was at Luton Town where he made a name for himself. He was inspirational in the heart of defence, helping the Hatters to win the League One title in 2004-05. He was also named in the PFA League One team of the season that campaign.
He arrived at Colchester for a then-club record fee of £350,000 in January, 2008, just as Luton had entered administration.
Coyne made 16 appearances for the U's during the second half of the 2007-08 season, which ended in relegation from the Championship, but he was in-and-out of the side last term, due to international commitments, injuries and a loss of form. He made 19 league appearances, scattered over the campaign.
Despite his recent claim that he wants to leave the U's, there is no guarantee that he will be on his way, as U's Chief Executive Steve Bradshaw confirmed in an official statement.
“As with all the players, there was a meeting with the manager (Lambert) at the end of the season, and Chris (Coyne) probably hasn't played as many games as he would have liked over the past year,” said Bradshaw.
“However, there is no agreement in place to let him cancel his contract with the club.
“It seems at this moment, he has concerns over his future and how regularly he is playing. Therefore, all parties involved will be having further discussions to clarify Chris' situation,” added Bradshaw.
Lambert admitted, towards the end of last season, that he wanted to make wholesale changes to the squad. The departure of Coyne would fit in with these plans.
To date, front-runner Ashley Vincent (on loan last season) and midfielder David Fox (from Blackpool) have been added to the U's playing staff, while keeper Mark Cousins has signed a new two-year contract. http://www.eveningstar.co.uk/content/eveningstar/sport/general/story.aspx?brand=ESTOnline&category=Sport&tBrand=ESTOnline&tCategory=xDefault&itemid=IPED07 Jun 2009 15:22:00:740
