to think he was once considered a marquee prospect though is hilarious. sure his a steady player but not marquee material. if he wanted to play for regular wages i'd be wrapped with his addition.

if we dont sign coyne and loose him to another a-league club i'll be pissed off ... we have to make sure we sign all the quality perth boys that want to return home, dont want another case like good old wardy and loose him to another club.

hmm we havnt heard anything on sterjovski for a while .. and i guess we probably wont until after the WC qualifers.
Did sterjovski or burns even make the socceroos bench for the qatar game? Im hoping they both get a decent run in the next 2 games for the socceroos, especially burns.

Just a hunch ive had for a while. anyone else get the feeling Burns was allowed to come home because Pim doesn't see him in his WC plans ? i mean that would suck for all involved.

Hmmm Tommy, I'm not sure about that ... It's possible but why would he come to Perth if he was told he wouldn't be in the WC squad? Wouldn't he rather find some other European club to play for?

It's all about Coyne's contractual situation. That's always been the stumbling block. As the article said, he move to Colchester only January last year on a quite sizeable transfer fee. things may've changed alot in this short passage of time, but he signed a 3 and a half year contract of whatever it was and there's no shirking that. They can see his value too, especially with those recent Socceroos appearances, and they won't let go of him easily. Coyne may be making alot of noise now - hopefully Lambert agrees and then the club may be obliged to work something out with Coyne. Otherwise, we might see Coyne kind of 'having' to sing a different tune come August as he suits up for another season at Colchester. But then again, with Coyne's comments, no team wants an unhappy player, who may no longer be motivated to play for you. I guess we'll see what is worked out. Depends how firmly Coyne wants to leave and how willing they are to bend. SausageMahoney wrote:to think he was once considered a marquee prospect though is hilarious. sure his a steady player but not marquee material. if he wanted to play for regular wages i'd be wrapped with his addition. When was he 'actually' considered for Marquee? That must've jsut been rumours fueled by we fans or Tribal Football. But I doubt we ever would've seriously considered it - Unless you're talking pre-Sage, like, Ron Smith era? Tommycash wrote:Just a hunch ive had for a while. anyone else get the feeling Burns was allowed to come home because Pim doesn't see him in his WC plans ? i mean that would suck for all involved. Pim can't promise such things - as he'd say, it's still more than a year out and a bit too early. And Burns IS in the 'DM rotation' but yeah, he's definitely a 'fringe Socceroo,' so 'A' Socceroo, but only a fringe one. And these days we have '30 'Fringe Socceroos.' The WC squad will only be 23, AFAIK. Pim's DM rotation, from what I can see, is: Grella, Culina, Valeri, Jedinak then Burns. Culina can be kind of removed from that picture, given he can and has played many parts of the field, for us, where the others are more confined to DM. Culina will surely make the WC squad, as too Grella and Valeri, knock on wood (bar injury) for all, ofcourse. That equals 2/3 DMs in that 23 man squad already. Jedinak may well make the squad too, at this rate (Though he likely won't play), so make that 3/4. So yeah, when it comes to that final cut, Burns won't make it - except the emergency list, and if forbid one of the guys I mentioned gets injured, then he may come in. Don't see it as a disappointment, because as I've just articulated, Burns has never been that high in the pecking order anyway and Pim has utilised a far bigger squad, as he's needed to, for the qualifying campaign, than he'll have come the WC. Burns is STILL a Socceroo and will be come those Asian Cup Q games, later in the year, but he's not a WC Socceroo. Alot won't be though - we've utilised alot of defenders too for instance, so some of the likes of Jade North, Mark Milligan, Kisnorbo or even Craig Moore, may not make that final 23 - If we go Neill, Beauchamp, Coyne and Spiranovic. I reckon we'll see alot more disappointed to miss out, maybe even understandably, than we did for 06 - given the longer campaign this was and the large squad/list of players utilised. another article in the bbc website From the BBC website http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/c/colchester_united/8086187.stmU's deny Coyne termination claim Coyne cost Colchester £350,000 18 months ago Colchester United have denied defender Chris Coyne's claims that they have agreed to cancel the remaining two years of his contract. The 30-year-old, who is on World Cup qualifying duty with Australia, has struggled to command a regular first-team place under U's boss Paul Lambert. "It's probably in my best interests to move on... it's something which needs addressing," he told the Herald Sun. But a club statement read: "There is no agreement in place." Coyne told the Australian newspaper that he wanted to join A-League side Perth Glory and added: "Paul Lambert came in with new ideas and the fact I was going away regularly with Australia was also an issue." The Australian cost Colchester £350,000 from Luton in January 2008 and was installed as captain by then-manager Geraint Williams. "As with all of the players, there was a meeting with the manager at the end of the season and Chris probably hasn't played as many games as he would have liked over the past year," chief executive Steve Bradshaw told BBC Essex. "However, it seems at this moment in time, he has concerns over his future and how regularly he is playing. Therefore, all parties involved will be having further discussions to clarify Chris' situation."

Its sounds like if Perth can pay a transfer fee it would be all sorted out. I wonder if they will - obviously it's not covered by any cap, and Chris will be able to negotiate some kind of termination fee + glory salary + regular football.

I became a member this year and bought mine when I signed up. I can't wait, even though the cost has put a dent in my ambitions on taking a holiday at the end of the year haha. http://www.perthglory.com.au/default.aspx?s=newsdisplay&id=27692That article states "Members who applied for tickets during the exclusive pre-sale (which concluded on Thursday, 28 May) are being processed by Ticketmaster and your tickets will be distributed within the next three weeks." The article was released on Sunday :( Looks like pre-sale people like me will get them at the end of the month, and then the others a bit later perhaps...

We're all looking forward to it.

I bought my tickets when they became available with the memberships aswell. Can't wait for these games, recruited a bunch of mates to come. Anyone have any idea on how many have sold? You would think quite a few, considering if every member bought at least 2 tickets... Thats not an unreasonable assumption is it?

Not sure at this stage - I'll see. I may just go to a couple of A-League games, at this stage, if I can manage it. Depends on my work (I work Saturday) and what I can afford. Tommycash wrote:FP General wrote:Hmmm Tommy, I'm not sure about that ... It's possible but why would he come to Perth if he was told he wouldn't be in the WC squad? Wouldn't he rather find some other European club to play for? Well thats the thing. would he have been told ? it would be crushing. No Pim would not tell him or any genuine fringe player, like Burns, outright that they weren't in consideration. That would not be professional. It's too early to tell and Pim ofcourse likes to keep as many players on hand as need be, right up till last moment, in case of injuries and what have you. So like I said, Burns in the end, may not make the final cut, but he could well be on stand by and end up being selected, if Grella, Valeri or Jedinak are (forbid) injured. Every player has a chance, even those, like Troisi, Burns, Ruka or Wesolowski for instance, who are not presently part of Pim's squads. There's still the full 2009/10 season to come in Europe and some boys like Troisi are well poised to bolt. Burns started featuring for AEK late in their 08/09 campaign and others like Williams and Vidosic have come through lately too. Vidosic and Spiranovic could well see a bit of Bundesliga action, this coming season, which would boost their NT chances no end. All of these young boys are most definitely fringe at the moment, but through injuries, loss of form and what have you, combined with their 'potential' rise at club level in the coming season, 'could' see them suddenly bolt in the pecking order. 23 is a small number, but it's also a large number. Pim, 2 months out, will not count out these fringe players, so he will certainly not rule these players out, now - Burns included. Wisdom dictates - what if he did and suddenly Valeri and Jedinak suffer ill timed injuries? He'd have to go crawling back to Burns. That's just foolish. We know by Pim, he favours large squads, for exactly these variables. So it's way too early to say and Pim will be the first to say this. Pim would not lead players on per say either, he won't be making them false promises - he'd probably say 'he can't promise anything' infact. ALL the players, who've been in contact with Pim, including Burns, will KNOW where they stand, squad wise, anyway. Burns will know that Grella, Valeri and Jedinak are all well ahead of him in that pecking order - he know he's fringe. Edited by gloryperth: 10/6/2009 06:48:04 PM

i think it helps our cause with him scoring. it firms him in pims plans & shows that something as trivial as the league in shouldnt get in the way of his selection its all about form.

Yeah and lifts his public profile, makes him ever more the 'Marquee'for us, too - more on the level in the public eye with other 'current' A-League Aussie Marquees like Moore, Aloisi and Culina. His profile would certainly be higher than Victory's 'Marquee' Archie too.
Tommy, Jedinak would've started infront of Burns anyway - he's been playing regular Turkish Super League, including scoring against Fenerbahce which > catching splinters on some Romanian club's bench.
But yeah, Jedinak was kind of ordinary in his time on the pitch, enough so Verbeek was compelled to sub Grella on in place of him. But Jedinak was hardly alone, Culina wasn't too effective for large periods too, as too most of the team. We came through in the end though.

Quote:myspace.com/gloryfc can reveal that Perth Glory will announce Socceroo Mile Sterjovski, who scored in last night's 2-0 World Cup Qualifier victory against Bahrain, will today (Tuesday 11th of June) be announced as Perth Glory's marquee signing on a 3 year $2m deal.

Interesting hey ... here's another story confirming it: Sterjovski to be Glory's $2m man - http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/sport/soccer/sterjovski-to-be-glorys-2m-man-20090611-c3rm.htmlSOCCEROOS utility Mile Sterjovski, who got a rare start in last night's World Cup qualifier against Bahrain, is set to be unveiled as Perth Glory's new marquee player tomorrow. Sterjovski is believed to have agreed to a $2 million, three-year, contract after months of talks with a host of A-League clubs, including Gold Coast United and Central Coast Mariners. Sterjovski has spent almost a decade in Europe, including spells in France and Switzerland, but struggled for game time with his latest club, Derby County, and was told at the end of the recent English season he was free to find a new club. The move to Perth will reunite him with David Mitchell, who was his coach when he broke through into the old NSL with Sydney United and Parramatta Power.

ROFL FootballPerth beat me to it. Though mine looked better lol
Anyway, could to see we finally have a marquee and a decent one at that (I'm not even going to consider Deane a marquee!). Oh, and ours actually scores for NT now and then - unlike Melb's who is of course, a striker lol
Throw in a quality CB (and maybe LB whilst we're at it) and a very good period of rebuilding by Mitch and Sage in the last two seasons should result in nothing less than finals football for Glory.
