Sterjovski to be Glory's $2m man

SOCCEROOS utility Mile Sterjovski, who got a rare start in last night's World Cup qualifier against Bahrain, is set to be unveiled as Perth Glory's new marquee player tomorrow.

Sterjovski is believed to have agreed to a $2 million, three-year, contract after months of talks with a host of A-League clubs, including Gold Coast United and Central Coast Mariners. Sterjovski has spent almost a decade in Europe, including spells in France and Switzerland, but struggled for game time with his latest club, Derby County, and was told at the end of the recent English season he was free to find a new club.

The move to Perth will reunite him with David Mitchell, who was his coach when he broke through into the old NSL with Sydney United and Parramatta Power.

Former Perth Glory coach Steve McMahon is part of a Singapore-based consortium linked with a bid to buy out Newcastle United.

McMahon, who enjoyed a successful career in England with Liverpool, is commercial director for the Profitable Group, which the BBC says it looking at making a bid for the club.

Newcastle owner Mike Astley has put the club up for sale for £100m ($A203.55 million) after they were relegated from the Premier League last month.

It sounds like Perth will confirm Sterjovski today. However, no presser in Perth but a released statement ... I think .. just had a chat to the Glory media guy who couldn't confirm anythine except that a statement will be released later today.

Nah nah Cockerill's pretty reliable (most of the time), but when it comes to Glory news the West are the kings. No one breaks news better than Cook and Hope...

Surely now finals are a certainty.

hopefully we can get a bunch like that adelaide game last year with something like 12 thousand.
i mean if were winning games why not ?
i know the most troubling thing in getting my mates to the games is the fact we lose.
they still love the atmosphere and that jazz.
and thats the atmosphere with a miserly crowd of 8k.
i pray to god we get good crowds anyway.
depending on how we go early in the season i might delay my travel plans so i can see us in the finals.
thats how big this would be for me hahahaha.
