Second year is over for me, still haven't moved passed the clowning stage yet. Congrats man, I remember how shit scared/excited I was the night before my results, don't think I got any sleep that night. What are you planning on studying and what uni? Edited by fredsta: 17/12/2012 12:40:31 PM Still undecided on what to do, I could do Journalism at La Trobe or Swinburne or Professional and Creative writing at Deakin. I'm leaning towards P&CW as it gives me more freedom to be individual, as opposed to what journalism would be like. But then I think I might be wasting the options available to me with the decent ATAR I got, considering the entrance requirements for P&CW is 25 points lower than that of journalism. But I think I'll do P&CW, and if I don't like it, I can always take up Journalism 2nd year.

Yeah good call, I went to UoM thinking I'd study media and get into journalism but I wasn't enjoying the media subjects and loved my history ones and have ended up doing a history major with a creative writing minor. Not too great on the employment front but I'd much rather study the things I enjoy, I'd say go in with a flexible mindset and you'll find your path soon enough.

That part is what I'm most worried about, in regards to employment opportunities. But hey at the end of the day, if all else fails, I can always become a teacher  How are you liking History? I'm torn between History and Philosophy as a second major if I go down that path.

Journalism at La Trobe is a pretty prestigious course, bro. And you'll be able to go and do Creative Writing post-grad if it still takes your fancy.

jlm8695 wrote:How are you liking History? I'm torn between History and Philosophy as a second major if I go down that path. I'm loving it, the work load is an absolute breeze and more often than not the subject matter is interesting enough to make writing the essays a lot more tolerable than other subjects would allow. Seeing as you're interested in creative writing I'd imagine you'd excel at History as I find an ability to write and harness the creative side of things is what makes your essays stand out. I accidentally did a philosophy subject as an elective this year, I say accidentally as the subject title made me think it was going to be about terrorism and I needed a filler so didn't dig much deeper. I't turned out to not at all be about conventional conceptions of terrorism but more the philosophical and psychological aspects of terror. I hated it as the tutes were just a load of pretentious wank that I was more often than not too hungover to wrap my head around it all, but I have to say when it came to writing essays I really enjoyed it, studying the likes of Freud was something I hadn't done before and was intrigued by. The essay took me back to my high school literature class as it allowed for plenty of creative license in forming a contention, it was border line prose at times.

I think they're too torn trying to balance 'realism' with the whole 'arcade novelty factor' that was generally accepted with the NFS franchise. Pity Atletico capitulated in the second half. Jealous as though.
