Type "western Sydney" into twitter and watch and laugh at people try and justify the shithouse 'yes' vote percentages.

Here's a taster.

Politics is ~complex~, particularly in super diverse areas like Western Sydney. The Yes vote correlates with secularism, after that it gets harder to pull out clear trends, there's obviously a multitude of factors at play.

You're no better than any of them. Your explanation of why yes only got 25% in Blaxland has more holes than swiss cheese.

The mental gymnastics that people attempt to justify their worldview is hilarious

Oh god, people are already using the results in Western Sydney to attack ethic communities. You don't celebrate one victory over discrimination against minority group by attacking a different minority group!

Even IF every Muslim in West Sydney voted No, I don't see how that particular tweet is wrong.
Don't know who that is or what he stands for but it's a valid point.
Seems like you are trying some gymnastics of your own (with one metaphorical arm tied behind your back).

Because it's sweet kamuppins for everyone who (time and time again) were the ones pointing out the issues with Islam and homosexuals, and were then derided as Islamophobic. It's just funny to watch people squirm and justify their cognitive dissonance.

And as Muz says it blows out the idea of "assimilation" when it's minority and foreigner communities that are overwhelmingly voting no.

It's not cognitive dissonance, progressive people are aware of beliefs of muslims that are not compatible with their own. People are entitled to their views. The issue with "christians" is the christian lobby groups that influence policy and take things away from the secular state that people like myself hold dear. If Muslim lobby groups had that same influence they would be derided in the same way.

I would disagree there.

Most progressives are either unaware of the views of these people, or are aware and attempt to obfuscate the issue in an attempt to rationalise it (see that Osman Faraqi quote above).

Osman's got a certain take on it. Munrubz seems to have conveniently not included the tweet this was a reply to which stated
The Blaxland takes are particularly dumb because even if you assume *every* Muslim in the electorate voted No, that still leaves an additional 45% of the electorate as No voters. Much higher than national average.

He doesn't deny that there would be plenty that would vote no just that there is more to it.

This idea of "hurr-hurr those dumb lefites, support islam but they hate gays" is frankly ridiculous.

Best one I saw was some lefty chick I went to school with (has the SJW haircut- buzzcut on the sides, dyed on top, thinks reading transgender books to young children is a "great idea" etc) posting an article that essentially said "But...but...but the 'No' voters targeted these areas knowing that people there are generally ESL groups and their propaganda would be more effective on them- we even spoke to people who said they'd have voted 'Yes' if they were better informed so checkmate, bigots!"

They seriously cannot comprehend how anybody- especially anybody who is NOT white/ male/ straight- could disagree with any of their views without some convenient excuse that ends up with the finger of blame pointing back at white people/ males/ Christians/ heterosexuals...

*Edit* And while I wish I didn't have to point this out, by 'They' I don't mean every single person with left-wing sympathies or who votes for traditionally left-wing parties. I mean a certain group of people who (I'd hope) would have flashed into your mind when I described the girl I went to school with.

I saw this one video of some lefty girl who grew up in the Blaxland electorate defending all the No voters as they simply don't know any better being Muslim and the Arabic language not exactly having a term for gay. I think her name was Jan Fran or something from SBS. Just these painful rants. This should be more in what grinds my gears.

Hearing other speakers recently demanding diversity in parliament is so annoying. You can't force that stuff. There are numerous examples of people getting to the top regardless of their background or status. I feel people who get hindered have unfortunately crossed paths with an horrible individual in power who stopped their journey right there. It does happen but there's no way this stuff is institutionalised at the levels claimed. A lot of it is smart work, networking and some luck.

Me?

Because if it was, put it this way- I used to wonder why so many old men were grumpy bastards, but I already feel like I can sympathise with a lot of them! And Scott, I can only imagine what a nightmare it must have been living in that gender studies student wet-dream of a country. As far as I can gather, the only thing it has going for it are hot, easy women- am I right?

WFMB: This Betoota article. Nails so many people on this forum
“You Can’t Say Anything These Days” Says Man Who Says Whatever He Wants All The Time
According to Nathan Fish (64) political correctness is ruining his life making it hard for him to speak his mind, despite the fact he does anyway literally all of the time.

“Did you hear you can’t even say ‘wog’ anymore? So if I see someone acting like a wog I’m not allowed to say it even though my grandma was half Macedonian?”

A veteran of far-right media, including websites and radio stations that spend more time discussing Social Justice Warrior culture than Tumblr, Fish say’s he’s had it up to here with political correctness, despite the fact he’s never even tried it.

“My niece got mad at me cause I told her to “never do business with a Leb.” So I’m not supposed to say that now huh? Fine then love, go ahead ignore my advice, see how that works out for you then.”

Fish believes that trigger warnings and safe spaces are what is wrong with this country and the reason that young people today will not grow up into hardened, bitter divorcees like himself.

“Did you know a man can just become a chick now but you’re not supposed to call them a ‘shim?’ Literal soft cocks mate.”

According to Fish, ‘these snowflakes’ need to take a good hard look at themselves, citing one incident where he was called a ‘stupid cracker’ on social media.

“Not that’s offensive. How is that ok but me asking “when is white history month?” just not on? Hypocrite sharia law loving fuckwits, fuck em!”

Fish denies claims that he is a racist as he once had his front window replaced by an Asian man.

“I didn’t even complain when he answered his phone talking Chinese. Speaks it better than he speaks English anyway that’s for sure.”

The Betoota Advocate- satire that punches equally to the left and to the right...

*UPDATE*

WAFMB: The term 'Total normie alert'- I first read this term in Marconi's rants about guys with Day of the Dead tatts and people who 'Like' the "funny" posts by State Police on Fb- and as a result I've finally found a term that accurately describes what I find frustrating about so much of mainstream culture...my life is better for it.

There are only two intellectually honest debate tactics: (a) pointing out errors or omissions in your opponent’s facts, or (b) pointing out errors or omissions in your opponent’s logic. All other debate tactics are intellectually dishonest - John T. Reed

The Most Popular Presidential Candidate Of All Time (TM) cant go to a sports stadium in the country he presides over. Figure that one out...

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.
