Hello,
I am very new to these forums and I am not sure if this is the right place to post this type of request. We are basically hoping that this post could assist us in looking for a higher level coach ( say an ex state / prem leage player etc )that could teach a bunch of kids some quality skills for the game ? Obviously we as parents would be keen to negotiate the terms for the right person with the intention of starting ASAP and continuing throughout nest year in 2008.
If you are interested or know of someone that would be please contact me via email me and I could give you/them more details.
We are in the inner-west sydney area.

Regards

With the recently release National Football Development Plan there will be a national coaching curriculum & player assesment programme for us all to follow. Our junior club in Sutherland Shire is setting up coaching procedures that will follow these to the letter. We already provide 1 afternoon of Coerver coaching available (at modest cost) to all our junior players - some 90 parents paid. You just may not need the level of coaching you think you want for players this young.

Thanks for the reply and info Charon,
Its great to see that more emphasis is being taken to the youth development in this country but we realised there was a need for some time now and although I cannot say too much the lads in this squad all belong to an existing academy and are still under contract but saying that I know exactly what you mean and clubs like Sutherland that take the initiative to address youth development should be applauded because for this very reason we moved to an academy due to limited local club coaching . Most of the time the coach was a nominated parent and the manager was the one who told the others who was to bring the oranges and biscuits to the games. Anyhow there are a number of academies that all offer different types of coaching, some emphasising the one touch play and triangle passing , others believe that coordination, balance, ladder work is more important and then there are the ones that believe the fancy free flowing tricks and skill predominantly influenced by the Brazilians European etc are the core. Don't get me wrong all are important for youth development and I am not sure exactly what is included in the curriculum but I would be keen to see what it offers.
I believe that good players come through the ranks and make it through to youth, premier and perhaps state or overseas, all these guy get there because of certain attributes and influences some of which provided by their coaches and these are the guys that should be playing a part in youth development. Who wouldn't love to have a Kewell or Viduku coach your kid ? hence we are opting to search for a coach, preferably an ex-player that have hung their boots in the hope that the kids continue to follow the basic fundamentals but to further enhance the skill level that is needed to be a level above most at their age.
The contribution that these guys can offer youth development is vital to it being successful, you got to start somewhere !!
If you think you got the goods drop me an email, obviously discussions are strictly confidential.

Regards

Just because a person has played at a relatively high standard, does not guarantee that they can coach, especially kids!!

Also, paying for coaching does not guarantee that the level or standard of coaching you receive is any better than a parent with a good understanding of the sport can provide.

I wish you luck in your search and hope you find what you are looking for.

History will show you that the greatest managers (or tacticians at least) in most ball sports were mediocre to average in ability [by professional standards]. However, this is just a statistical fact.

in his own mind...he was. He used garbage on how played ac milan reserves, i could tell he was full of shit from the get go. I think he just lied on resume to get the nod.

In the interview with arsene wenger in the latest 442 rag, they mention that himself and alex ferguson disnt set the world alight as players, but at least they played at a high level.

Maybe because these players had to develop good tactical brains in order to play at a good level given their lack of natural born talent.

My son had a coach who apparently played in the NFL. He'd put shit on his best players if they made a mistake and never gave positive feedback to the most competant players. Somehow my boy made it through that season and is still playing. You need to be very careful about who you take on as a coach, be sure that he has some quals and experience. Players don't always make good coaches at any level.

G/day,
I think it would be compelling of me to clarify the original request here so we don't get side tracked in that it was a request for a "skills" coach rather than a "coach" per.. say . We currently do obtain the services of an excellent coach that is teaching the kids some of the basic aspects of the the game which more than covers their ongoing understanding for their age in terms of basic skills and tactics etc. The guy we would be looking for is one that has the ability to provide some extra special skills and/or drills with skills that they may perhaps already possess themselves. The kids at this age are eager to learn new things and it is the best time for them to develop some of these skills. The sport is non completive here for them until the age of ten ( in Europe I believe it is eleven or twelve ? ) and this is basically to detract the kids from any competitive influences that may slow down their development, but you try telling a kid that its ok to lose so long as your having fun and learning ! they all want to win and they will all play in a way that suits them in order to win which may not necessarily be the correct way if you know what I mean.

A brilliant player may have a gift which he can share to youth but because he may not make a brilliant manager or coach his talents are left on the park. The problem with it is that as soon a high level player decides to do something for youth its usually in the form of an academy which then it evolves into a business with $$$ which then loses its appeal to be individualised or personalised.

By the way we are still looking for a skills coach
