Back to the topic at hand...

I think the major problem in Australian youth is the fact that we DO have fathers who never played at least semi professionally teaching 6-10 year olds bad habits that they themselves picked up.
for instance, from the age of 10 kids should be nearly finished learning the needed football skills - moving the ball when you recieve it, use of both feet, even simply the ability to create enough space to say put in a cross or have a shot.
Say im Craig Foster if u will, but if you wonder why we have only made the world cup twice ever, it has to be brought all the way down to the ground.

Hey Mot,
with regard your original request for someone to teach....let's call them advanced skills. Are you seeking someone to teach 'moves', the ball mastery stuff with flicks 'n tricks? And I don't mean those terms in a derogatory manner, hell I grew up when 'a turn meant nothing more than a turn of speed. If that is what you are after there is a very well put together DVD set recently produced by the coaching group previously licensed by Football NSW.

Hi Guys,
Sorry I have been away for a bit but just to give you an update, we are presently negotiating with a few people that seem to be fitting the criteria so its all looking hopefull at the moment. In response to Geust and Charon in wanting to know what skills , basically I am no expert in the game other than your usual social club soccer but I do see a problem with the differences in our sport technically compared to overseas nations. I stumbled upon another forum at sbs which was addressinfg a similar topic and I found one of the posts by "decentric" seems to be on the right wavelength. You can read the post here : http://www21.sbs.com.au/wgforum/viewtopic.php?t=102156

One of the quotes :

"I also teach specific and incremental dribbling and turning techniques. The standard inside of the foot, followed by the outside of the foot body swerve, the Matthews cut, the Cruyff cut and a simplified version of the Zidane 360 are the first techniques I teach. I use Brazilian Soccer Schools DVDs to impart more advanced dribbling and turning with the ball techniques of varying complexity. The Brazilians use over the ball sideways technique a lot, which is rarely used in context in England or Australia, or even on the continent. One of the state female players has an array of effective skills she has learnt from a Manchester United DVD which she is going to lend me.

All these techniques need to be learnt slowly, then sped up still in isolation from other players. When players can do them at a quicker rate, the next step is to do them with the head up. Finally being able to practise them with an opponent to gauge effective distancing is recommended. When this is done repetitively and successfully, a technique has been transferred to a skill, according to FFA vernacular."

You can read more at the above link but the above quote highlites some of the skills we are searching for and assume there would be other skills no doubt . Perhaps we need to grab one of those brazillian dvd's and go from there.
