Well with the friendlies starting in a couple of weeks its looks to be a bumper year in the 2010 NSW Premier League.
South Coast Wolves - future b-league side now playing out of win stadium, have a massive major sponsors, reconnecting with the community and looking for big crowds
Sydney Olympic FC - "The Revolution" as they are calling it at the club is on with the club looking to bring back all their old supportters back to the games, massive entertainement is planned, a strong board, their facebook page has over 2,500 members and hoping for a bumper crowd of over 5000 for the first home game versus Sydney United at the faboulous Belmore Sports Ground. Definately one side for the b-league for the b-league to be a success
Bonnyrigg White Eagles - The big spenders looking for crowds around 2,000 playing in a melting pot of a stadium , Brad Boardman, Bomer Brown the coach wanting to bring home the titles.
Sydney United FC - Strong squad retained from last year, Milicic gone to the heart, still not connecting with their old fans well see what happnes donw at Edensor Pakr another B-league hoepfull.
Manly United FC - if they could capture the northenr beaches as they have the administration and the facilities could give football another hot spot!
Sutherland - In the same boat as manly need to capture the hearts of the shire a quality marketing manager is in order.
Bankstown - With Peter Tsekenis as coach will alwasy be competitive suprising he hasnt been hit up for an a-league assistant role. Crowds of around 850.
Rockdale Ilinden - Playing out of OKI Jubilee hoping for big crowds of over 1,000 recruitment has been slow back to regulation is my bet.
Blacktown Demons - Poor crowds, indiferent squad most boring team in the comp.
West Sydney Berries - In the same boat as Blacktown
Marconi - Top class facilities, Top class players and coaches, good funding but no supportters
APIA - PLaying out of Leichhardt Oval, will battle for regulation along with rockdale
Your thoughts?

Blacktown have always been a strong contender, the richest history of any NSW club featuring the likes of sir bobby Charlton. Now that funds and stadium issues are under control they will step back up to where they rightfully belong. Also where the Rovers will begin their poaching.
Rockdale will be interesting to see but I cant see a large turn out from them in either the game or fan stakes.
United, Olympic, BWE and Marconi to step back up with regular fans since the rovers have kick started [peoples passion in the west for football and always entertaining (United and BWE to go toe to toe again and both end up relegated) the rest are the rest. no fans mediocire football and always good to make up the numbers.
See you all at Lilly holmes Stadium aka Gabbie

It will be interesting to see what crowds these clubs do get. If Sydney United get crowds of 5000 then they are on par with HAL's GCU?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck with the rovers thingy my mate, Olympic, Bonny, Sutho, Wollongong to have large crowds watch this space!
Sydney Olympic now has an official fan group called the "Olympic Ultras" massive recruitment is happenign with all the talk in the local streets of Belmore, Earlwood, St George Area being about Olympic revolution.
Belmore Sports Ground well be going off this season.
If you have not heard get on facebook.
Gaurantee Blacktown well not make the semis and will not get a bigger crowd than 500 at the home games.

ForestMan, big crowds when you have no media whatsoever is anything over 2000 people.
When interent sites, newspapers television the governing body no one promotes the game under the a-league a crowd of over 2000 is massive!
So when teams like wollongong & Olympic reach crowds over that with no media imagine what they can do with it?
Should au.fourfourtwo.com not be doing match reports and match previews on the NSW Premier league its the second biggest competition in the country i thought that is what a website liek this is for? Promoting and talking about the game? correct me if im wrong

Blacktown will be very please to get 500 through the gates. Just remember for all your recruitment you have to travel to be an Ultra.
Will be great to see the old Olympic Army at it again. Back in the NSL they were quite good.

The average crowds in state league games are something between 100 and 700 people.
Anyone who disagrees with that, doesn't attend state league games.
Go and have a look. Attend a game. It'll be an eye-opener for you.

One article a month is not considered coverage guys.
In a month of the a-league their is probably what over 100 articles or so and the second division of the country gets 1 articles a month? is that right?
How do you then expect the game to progress?
I agree with yoru figues of 100 - 700
But lats year olympic had from 500 - 1800 so your figures arent exactly right.

Yeah, but he was talking about the average crowd. Olympic aren't really your run-of-the-mill state league team. There'll be shitty teams with shitty crowds to balance them out.

moderate read the posts sir.
1 - how can you call first grade squads grass roots? are you feeling ok?
2 - a match preview of the big games and match reviews of the big games not a weekly preview and round up from footballnsw website? that is not journalism thats copy the link? surely fourfourtwo is not that busy in the a-league offseason?
If you ban me for the post than so be it but it is a fair call, shows you have no respect for your readers and their opinions

PAOKTZI wrote:F1 DAVE what do perth state league teams average Grand final between Perth SC and Western Knights saw a touch under 2000 attend. That's a decent crowd though owing it to being a big game- grand final and all. Typical crowd at my local club (ECU Joondalup) would probably be approx 200? 300? Someone like Perth SC would get more, but other teams would get less.

i cant believe people actually think that these teams should be in the b-league.
the b-league should be franchised in the same way as the a-league. only way it would work.
sorry to burst your bubble. but these teams deserve 4th level of the future australian pyramid at best.

what my friend you can honestly say the a-league os working?
brisbane, adelaide owned by the ffa, north queensland backer walks
the rovers dont have a backer
poor crowds across the board well see who walks next??
o media coverage apart from fox, are you joking now are what?
this is a serious post and factual, love to see what you all have to say.
I love how you all take offence to these post but when someone says teams that have 52 plus years of history and have built football in this country deserve to be in the 4th division is not a football fan

I think looking at the average crowds for the 2009 NSWPL season was about 500-1k depending on whose playing. Teams like Manly United and (then Wollongong Community Football club, now South Coast United) got regualar crowds of approx. 500, although Sydney United and Olympic, Marconi, Bonnyrigg always used to pull a decent crowd. A westie would say it's down to West Sydney being the epicenter of football in this country, but i'd put a tenner on the fact that the "ethnics" who currently root for Olympic and United, and all those Ethnic based teams won't suddenly jump up and start supporting rovers.

Well if Rovers go out and show these 'ethnics' that they are a club for the community like they will then they will get the old NSL supporters on board.

I agree to a point. I do go to the occassional state league top of the table game too and I do enjoy my 2 souvlakis and a few cold beers while I'm there. But you are talking to the converted and I think I'm also talking to the converted by the sound of it. What about the uncorverted though? How is this game going to attract new fans to the state leagues while the overwhelming impression out there among the existing A-League followers is that state league soccer, after 5 years of the A-League revolution, is still mono-ethnic club soccer? How are we going to entice them to come to the games? By tempting them with tasty souvlaki, great polish sausage, kebabs and hot chips? How is it ok for me or anybody else like me to express delight at the pleasure I get out of the spicy snacks and cold drinks I enjoy at state league games when I know deep inside that the reason there's only 200 people at the game is because fans of a nationality other than that of the club I follow feel excluded and won't come? I look around me mate, I see the same old faces I have been seing all my life at these sort of games, people of the same nationality as me and my state league team and I feel sad this type of mono-ethnic soccer is still promoted in 2009 like it's a good thing for our game and its future. And then we'll turn around again in a few weeks time and blame everybody else for the shambles the state leagues are in except the real culprit. It's really sad.

And then we'll turn around again in a few weeks time and blame everybody else for the shambles the state leagues are in except the real culprit. It's really sad. TBH, I just think that people don't go to the state leagues because it's not 'the best'. For the same reason many aussies don't go to the A-League because it's not the EPL. I took some mates down to an ECU match or two, and they liked their chips and gravy and whatnot, but at the end of the day they didn't come back because "it's shit". Now, I don't agree with that, but then again I'm a lover of the game no matter what level. I'd watch (and will watch, soon enough) Conference matches in the UK if they were on near me. State leagues suffer the same affliction that the WAFL, the Skywest Basketball League, and the WACA Grade Cricket League suffer over here. As far as I'm concerned (in WA anyway) it's not mono-ethnic cultures that are keeping people away from the 2nd tier matches... it's the fact that they're second tier matches! WACA attendance for the Aussies v South Africa in a one-dayer? ~20,000 people. WACA attendance for WA vs Victoria in a one-dayer? ~2,000 if you're lucky WACA Smokefree League attendance? Maybe 50 plus some officials?

That's only a minority though. Most of the oldies get along go too the club together. Most of the young ones get along it's just the small group that think they are fucking heroes and have to hate each other. The two countries get along now aswell.
Plus that doesn't happen in the state league because the two sets of fans are locked out because the NSW Police and Football NSW want too seem like they are being safe when it's just stupid.

Is that were the kicked in the chest video came from?

When interent sites, newspapers television the governing body no one promotes the game under the a-league a crowd of over 2000 is massive!
So when teams like wollongong & Olympic reach crowds over that with no media imagine what they can do with it?
Should au.fourfourtwo.com not be doing match reports and match previews on the NSW Premier league its the second biggest competition in the country i thought that is what a website liek this is for? Promoting and talking about the game? correct me if im wrong wollongong only got 150-200 to there home games last year

Yeah, but he was talking about the average crowd. Olympic aren't really your run-of-the-mill state league team. There'll be shitty teams with shitty crowds to balance them out. sutho averaged 800-1000 per home game

Heineken what dodgey evidence you show. You may as well show the Cronulla riots and say that all Aussies hate "wogs" and whenever they are in the vicinity of eachother there is violence.
Carry on about the NSWPL rather than these tired old arguments about nothing.

GET READY FOR MASSIVE CROWDS FROM BONNYRIGG THIS YEAR Hey mate, couple of points... When you've got long URLs like that, they won't display properly on here because of the square brackets. Instead, take them to www.tinyurl.com, paste them in the text box, click "Make Tiny URL" and he presto, you end up with: http://tinyurl.com/yzw9zg4Which links to the story just fine. Also, try not to 'speak' all in caps...

PAOKTZI wrote:Blakctown couldtn get over 1000 people if they were offering free beer to their games What is your point???? At least they are getting people to the games. For a club with little support we still out class you in club history and Trophies won. Once again Sir Bobby Charlton (the Manchester United Legend for those who are daft) played For Blacktown. Support will build again for Blacktown just as soon as we get going again. Over the last few months we have finally got a new owner and manager of Gabbie now Lilly homes Stadium. The Owner has also taken over the club and is in the process of rebuilding the resaurant and giving the club a face lift. You Have your revolution, well ours is coming, its just going to take a little longer.

I'll try and get along to a couple of Leichhardt games at Leichhardt Oval. But Balmain FC will be in the Premier League in a few years. Were currently 2 div lower in State League 1, but we've moved 6 divisions in like 8 years. Not bad for a semi-proffesional coach.

Quote:GET ready to cheer on the Blacktown Football Club in 2010.
After a tumultuous year the Blacktown City Demons have wiped the slate clean, name and all, and will start next season as Blacktown FC.
At the club’s Annual General Meeting at the end of November a new board of directors voted in favour of the name change.
After being lodged with the Department of Fair Trading, the name was approved on December 9.
The fresh start comes courtesy of Vince Camera who bought the sports club next door and reclaimed the homeground, now known as Lily Homes stadium after his Liverpool business.
The Demons Sports Club went into liquidation in April and the stadium, then known as Gabbie, was sold off to help recover debts, leaving the soccer club in a precarious position.
Camera said the ``Demons’’ will still be there in the background, as can be seen in the new logo, but Blacktown FC was a more appropriate football name.
``Everybody’s confident and happy where we’re at and where we’re going,’’ he said.
Instead of electing a new chair following the resignation of David Fitzharris, a board of five businessmen; Joe D’Agostino, Brett Seagar, Christian Harders, Greg Walker and Camera, will preside over the club.
Their focus will be to get the licensed club turning a profit.
``The more money we generate from the clubhouse, the better it is for soccer,’’ Camera said.
A woodfire oven has already been added to the kitchen and Camera hopes to reopen the club mid February - just in time for the start of the Premier League season.
As seen in the Blacktown Advocate http://blacktown-advocate.whereilive.com.au/sport/story/goodbye-blacktown-demons-hello-blacktown-fc

Quote: Sutherland Sharks recruit two strikers for 2010 2009 NSW Premier League Champions Sutherland Sharks have added two new recruits to its player roster for 2010 with attackers Benjamin Vidaic and Steve McConologue joining the Shire based club. Vidaic is well known to many in the NSW Premier League as he has played senior football for both Sydney United and more recently Marconi Stallions. The 21-year-old was a former Sutherland Sharks youth product before moving off to the Blacktown City Demons but was delighted to be once again playing with the Shire side. The big 6 foot 4 striker will add much needed steel to the Sharks attack after losing 2009 Gold Medal Winner Bradley Boardman to the Bonnyrigg White Eagles. Linking up with Vidaic up-front will be Scotsman Steve McConologue. The former Scottish Schoolboys star played in the Scottish Third Division for Stranraer F.C. before coming to Australia where he met up with close friend and Sharks tough midfielder Neil Jablonksi http://footballnsw.com.au/index.php?id=17&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=3259&tx_ttnews[backPid]=389&cHash=baeed93e2d LOL at Vidaic. Was great at United got into the Sydney FC squad. Then comes back and plays for bitter local rivals and flops and now off to the shire for more mediocrity. He did show great potential but hasn't lived up to it can't do much except head the ball well he's slow and has the touch of a hippo.

FFS i have to get them to go watch the game when they play blacktown city at endensor park. i do hope that the likes of syd united, marconi, olympic and basically all NSWPL state teams can pull decent crowds for this season. as i have seen blacktown city go through alot of shit. so hopefully teams can get a solid crowd going to all their matches

Quote: Brown and Pointer to be White Eagles till 2012
Bonnyrigg White Eagles’ coaching duo of Brian ‘Bomber’ Brown (head coach) and Cliff Pointer (assistant coach) have agreed to extend their deals with the club till the end of season 2012 it was reported by club officials this week.
The board of Bonnyrigg White Eagles have been very happy with Brown and Pointer since they commenced with the club last year and with the extensive recruitment drive in 2010, the board has shown its support and faith behind the coaching management.
Bonnyrigg White Eagles Football Manager George Mandic was delighted to have agreed to terms with his well known coaching staff.
“Brian Brown was always on the club’s radar ever since the Bonnyrigg White Eagles were part of the NSW Premier League.
“The club knows that both Brian and Cliff are the best coaching duo in the league and with them at the helm, Bonnyrigg White Eagles know the club can only go one way and that is to the top.
“The club wants trophies and we believe both can deliver success and develop players at the Bonnyrigg White Eagles.”
The Bonnyrigg White Eagles has by far been the busiest in recruiting new players as 11 new signings have been made by the club for season 2010.

You say I have no idea about the history and the meaning of the club. My Grandfather was there building King Tom. He is a foundation member of the club. My father has been going to games since he was in a stroller and is a member of the club. I have been going to games since I can remember and am a member of the club. Sydney Croatia is in my blood and will continue to be until the day I cease to exist. Don't you dare question my love for my club you fucking internet hero. All you do is blab about your great Sydney Olympic when they are a 2nd rate club now that can't even make the semis of the NSWPL. Haven't won a title since 2001 and haven't made a Grand Final since 2002. Your "Olympic Ultras" are a pathetic group of guys who think they are heroes because they have a fucking Facebook group. Seriously Facebook. That's a poor way to measure success. The only way to measure the success of a club is on the field and in the last 10 years out of our 2 clubs the more successful is Sydney Croatia by far.

Quote: Daejeon Citizen FC and Marconi Stallions play out exciting friendly clash NSW Premier League side Marconi Stallions continued their pre-season preparation for the upcoming 2010 season in a highly entertaining match against South Korean K-League Championship aspirants, Daejeon Citizen FC at Valentine Sports Complex, Glenwood last Wednesday.Daejeon Citizen FC was established in 1997 and is a community owned football club in South Korea. They are currently in Sydney on a grueling 5 week pre-season camp, with some 6 friendly matches against the NSW Premier and State League opposition. In only their second trial match for the 2010 campaign, the Stallions lost 3-1 but were not disgraced. Both teams went on the offensive seeking an early moral booster which came to the Stallions in the 14th minute when youngster Jarrod Lum was heavily tackled in the 6 yard box, denying him a clear goal scoring opportunity. Stallions’ captain Nahuel Arrarte made no mistake to put his team ahead. Daejeon were recovering from this early setback and began to show the seriousness of this match with many defense splitting runs that would breakdown many good teams. The intensity of this 5 week pre-season camp was evident with the tremendous fitness displayed by the South Koreans. By now, Daejeon pulled many tricks with the Marconi defensive line and shot stopper James Chronopoulos alert and sharp, as the South Koreans fired at him from every angle, at every opportunity. A flurry of attacks from both teams provided excellent entertainment to the 100 strong spectators made up of mainly player’s family members. Daejeon’s Brazilian duo of Ale and Babel, were sheer class and one could see why the South Koreans have them on their books, while Ko Chang Hyeon, stood out from his team mates for his creative abilities. In the 29th minute, Daejeon was on level terms thanks to the penalty spot as Ko Chang Hyeon got his name on the score sheet. With both sides on the score sheet and level, the fast tempo reverted to technical football with some neat one touch play and searching runs from wide players. All square at the half way mark, and it was time for Daejeon to rest their prized Brazilians and a number of first grade regulars to test fringe players. With a squad of 28 players, coaches have many options available and try to get as many players on the park. For Marconi, James Chronopoulos made way for new signing Jose Bello Amigo in goals, who recently returned to Australia after a stint in Spain’s lower football leagues. Daejeon added to their score within minutes, as a cross was not dealt with effectively by the Marconi defense, a scramble ensued leading to their second goal for the evening. Ten minutes later (55’) a long ball was played by Daejeon on one of the flanks which saw a delightfully precise out swinging cross at the end of a South Korean player who hit a thunderous volley which almost ripped the net of it’s mountings to add Daejeon’s third for the match. Marconi created further chances with Anabalon going just wide of Daejeon’s posts after a clever pass from Alex Canak. Marconi youngsters, Nathan Jaglemen and Ryan Hughes combined well to trouble the South Korean’s defense late in the game. As usual, Nahuel Arrate was very consistent in his performance which created interest from Daejeon’s travelling media. Daejeon’s coach Wang Sun-Jae is not a stranger to Sydney as he has family members that still live in Sydney. The travelling South Korean media took great interest in his post match comments however; spent considerable time talking to Marconi Stallions’ boss Lee Sterrey. Sterrey gave some 7 youngsters under the age of 20 an opportunity to show their talent and to expose them to high level football. “It was a good exercise to expose my players to visiting teams and I’m pleased with their output considering that Daejeon are full time professionals and this is our third hit out. “I’m not afraid to use the younger player, after all, they have to start somewhere and this is good a game you get for football education”. http://footballnsw.com.au/index.php?id=17&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=3277&tx_ttnews[backPid]=389&cHash=2afc98ab2a They play against Sydney United on Wednesday 7:30pm at Valentine Sports Park. I have never once said that I am one and not the other. PAOKTZI wrote:u cant be normal and support two clubs in a country 1 division away from another You make it out as if they will one day be playing together. The fact of the matter is they will never be playing in the same competition and since their seasons don't overlap on a major way I can support both teams easily. There is no promotion and relegation with the A-league and NSWPL where teams in the division below have a chance to go up, and there never will be. United and any other team in the NSWPL will never be in the A-League so it's quite easy to support a team in both competitions.

Quote: Luka Glavas the star as Sydney United win Interstate Friendship Cup Sydney United has won the 2010 ‘Interstate Friendship Cup’ after an entertaining 3-2 victory over two-time former NSL Champions Melbourne Knights at Sydney United Sports Centre, Saturday 30th of January 2010.A second half hatrick from Sydney United favourite Luka Glavas (47p’, 68’, 94’) cancelled out goals from Jean Charles Dubois (37’) and Liam Cannell (89’) in what was an excellent hit-out for the 2009 NSW Premier League Premiers. The game opened with a flurry of possession for the home side but it was the Knight’s who looked the more dangerous on the counter-attack. Melbourne winger Liam Cannell came close to opening the scoring in the 4th minute after expertly cutting in from the right-hand touchline to unleash a low drive to rattle the woodwork from inside the 18-yard box. Sydney United started to find their range as the match went on and should have taken the lead in the 14th minute after former Blacktown City and Sydney Olympic defender Michael Cindric found himself in an excellent position to header in a Shane Lyons corner but pushed wide. As the Edensor Park outfit pressed for the opener, Melbourne were able to counter expertly, pushing the ball wide to the impressive Ivica Prajz who delivered a perfect cross for Jean Charles Dubois to header home in the 37th minute and take a 1-0 lead into half-time. The second half opened much like the first with Sydney United dominating possession and in the 47th minute Elsid Barkhousier was able to latch onto a through ball and before pulling the trigger was fouled inside the 18-yard box. Luka Glavas stepped up and expertly dispatched the penalty to equalise. Melbourne continued to find themselves on the back foot as United continued to push forward. Sydney United soon took the lead thanks to some brilliant work from substitute Ante Tomic to keep the ball in play and feed Elsid Barkhousier who produced a sublime low cross for Luka Glavas who slotted home his second of the evening. With the match seemingly headed towards a United victory, Melbourne drew level in the 89th minute thanks to Liam Cannel who headed powerfully following an excellent Josip Magdic cross. However it was Glavas who had the last laugh, slotting home an injury time winner after Ante Tomic found space in behind the napping Melbourne defence and drove a low ball across the 6-yard box for Glavas to finish. The 2009 NSW Premier League Premiers continue their pre-season campaign with a friendly match against K-League side Daejeon Citizen FC at Valentine Sports Park on Wednesday 3rd of February 2010 (7:30pm). Line Ups Sydney United 50. Vedran Janjetovic (23. Roy Bell 45’), 25. Michael Cindric, 40. Joe Vrkic (8. George Strogylos 55’), 29. Shane Lyons, 3. Damon Collina (38. Adam Jenner 55’), 21. West Sydney Berries ready for their 2010 Season Launch 02.02.10 11:29
NSW Premier League outfit West Sydney Berries have been eagerly preparing for the new 2010 season but prior to the first ball being kicked the club has organised a very plush season launch. Using Canterbury BMW as the venue for the launch, the West Sydney Berries will be presenting to the club supporters, media and various special guests its team for the 2010 NSW Premier League season as well as what new strips the club will be sporting this year.
Friday 19th of February will see the Berries launch its new season where the likes of new club recruits such as ex-Sydney FC player Ryan Walsh, David Gardiner, Sash Tirovski, James O’Rourke, Nestor Tsioustas, Fadi Ghosson and Cem Akilli all presented to the invited guests on the evening.
The West Sydney Berries’ first match is against the Marconi Stallions on the 27th of February at Marconi Stadium while the club’s first home match is on the 7th of March against the Sutherland Sharks at Sydney Olympic Athletic Centre.

Cameron Jones hopes to shine with the Rockdale City Suns 02.02.10 15:17
Rockdale City Suns' Cameron Jones is gearing up for the 2010 NSW Premier League season With years of NSW Premier League experience behind him and an endless work rate to match, Rockdale City Suns will undoubtedly be looking for Cameron Jones to help them stay in the top flight of NSW football in 2010. Having played for clubs such as A.P.I.A.-Leichhardt Tigers, Manly United and the West Sydney Berries in the past, the midfielder knows what it takes to play at such a high level. After his short half year stint with the Suns in 2009, Jones is hungry to play NSW Premier League football yet again.
A Rockdale City Suns player at heart, Jones left the Suns to join the Tigers in 2005 in his search to continue playing NSW Premier League football.
Now at 28 and after five years away from his beloved club, Jones is back and ready to show why Rockdale City Suns are a force to be reckoned with.
"I love being back at the Rockdale City Suns. It took me a while to return here but now that I’m back I am really enjoying it and ready to show we mean business,” he said.
“It’s a very exciting time at the club, with the new ground and being back in the NSW Premier League; it’s a new era and I love being a part of it all.”
Jones’ vision, rock-solid defence and ability to snatch goals when most needed played a key role in Rockdale’s promotion from the NSW Super League to the NSW Premier League in 2009.
However, with the first round clash against last season’s NSW Premier League Premiers, Sydney United, just weeks away “Jonesy” knows his team has their work cut out this season.
“Only time will tell as to how well we do in the NSW Premier League,” said Jones humbly.
“We have put together a very impressive squad so we are quietly confident of a strong season.”
“Our goal is to re-establish ourselves as a strong competitor in the top flight for this first season and whatever happens after is a bonus,” he continued.
The fact that the Suns are an unknown entity could be one of the biggest strengths for the club according to the 28-year-old. He believes Rockdale have what it takes to play “free flowing football” and the ability to cause surprises despite the high level of competition they face.
“No one really knows what we are going to bring to the table in 2010,” said Jones.
"You could say no one is expecting much from us, which is fine,” he added.
Jones’ assumption may be right; however, if pre-season results are anything to go by, NSW Premier League clubs may want to start thinking twice before writing off the Rockdale City Suns too early.
Their solid win over Preston, A.P.I.A.-Leichhardt Tigers and Bankstown (2-1), along with their surprise draw with Sydney Olympic and Marconi in recent weeks showed they’re certainly not around to make up the numbers that’s for sure.
Although they suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of a strong Bonnyrigg White Eagles outfit, the Suns learnt valuable lessons from the match.
“The Bonnyrigg match was a great measuring stick for us to see where we are at with our preparations for 2010,” he said.
Jones was quick to add that defeat or no defeat, the Suns would be ready for the start of the season.
“We’ve started ramping up the fitness aspect recently and there’s no doubt we’ll be in peak condition and ready to face Sydney United come round one,” he said.
With Jones’ experience, dedication and vision from midfield an ever inspiring force, the Sun’s may just have what it takes to cause some major surprises in 2010. Only time will tell.

If they did play against eachother Sydney United would win my support anyway.

Im amazed at these sudden arrival on the forums that can only one love one club and refuse to follow the top level in the country. It reminds me of all the "bogans" or "skips" telling the Greeks, Italian or "wogs' that they cant want both Australia and the country of their parents to do well at the World Cup.

NSW Premier League side Bankstown City FC was met with great news this month after receiving a $67,000 upgrade for its facilities in the NSW Government’s Community Building Partnership program. The upgrade will see Jensen Park’s kiosk, change rooms and toilets given a fresh new look which will please the thousands of football players playing and training at the venue every week.
Under the grant conditions, Bankstown Council have stated that they will match the amount given towards Jensen Park to ensure all the planned works can be completed.
The funding comes as part of the NSW Government’s $35 million Community Building Partnership program.
Bankstown City FC’s Club Secretary Mendo Petkovski was delighted with the upgrade which would ensure Jensen Park being up to scratch with Football NSW’s requirements with venues.
“On behalf of the committee of Bankstown City FC we would like to thank Barbara Perry and Bankstown Council for securing the grant.
“It will truly make a difference to the aging facility at Jensen Park.
“As Bankstown City FC is a major stake holder at Jensen Park, and the only NSW Premier League club in the district representing Bankstown at the highest level, Bankstown City FC will offer to match the grant and council contribution to an equivalent value.
“This will go a long way in ensuring that the ground will be brought up to a standard that fully complies with the Football NSW requirements.
“It will also ensure the longevity of premier league football and pathways for players in the Bankstown region.”

WEST SYDNEY BERRIES
Presentation Season Launch
Friday 19th February @ Canterbury BMW
376-384 Canterbury Rd Canterbury
Tickets $90 per person Dress: Semi Formal
Our Youth Season Launch Dinner last Friday at Bankstown Sport Club was a great night. The new boys to the club and their parents were warmly welcomed by our President, Chris Mitrothanasis. The presentation of the players jerseys for each team was the highlight of the evening. I would like to thank our first grade players who made the presentations to the boys, Archie Kotsopoulos (First grade captain), Hamish Mclean, Dimitri Zakilas and John Tsironis.
Congratulations to all the boys who were awarded captaincy and vice-captaincy honours for their respective team. I am sure that the special captain arm bands custom made by STANNO, our new club outfit supplier, will be worn proudly in performing this important role.
U13 - Joshua Hewett (capt.), Amadou Keita (vice-capt.) U14 - Stephen Papoutsis (capt.), Daniel Paino (vice-capt.) U15 - Theodore Mavridis (capt.), Paul Georgiadis (vice-capt.) U16 - Brian Griffin-Colls (capt.), Jawed Qasimi (vice-capt.) U18 - Sam Cornish (capt.), Martin Vazquez (vice-capt.)
I also thank John Calleja (Head Coach), Mathew Ribarovski (Asst. 1st grade Coach & Youth Goal Keeper Coach), Tony Pace (U20’s Coach & Senior Technical Director) for coming straight from a hard night of seniors training and giving their support for the night.
This is not just a special night for the boys but provides a great opportunity for the coaches, committee members and club officials to meet and chat with all the parents in a relaxed and enjoyable social environment. I wish all the teams well in the coming season, and going on the results of the friendlies we have played so far, I think we can look forward to more good performances in the competition.
Unfortunately, we have had our youth friendlies cancelled for the last two weekends to play Sydney Olympic and Apia Tigers, respectively. This breaks the build up and momentum of our pre-season training at a critical time when the teams are preparing and fine tuning starting line- ups for the first comp game against Marconi.
We have one last friendly scheduled to play Macarthur Rams this Sunday 21 February @ Lidcombe Oval.
U20’s and First Grade will play Sydney United on the same day @ Lidcombe Oval, starting 5.00pm and 7.00pm

Quote:2010 NSW Premier League Media launch a success
NSW Premier League clubs, officials and the media united at the Pullman Hotel in Homebush for the season’s official launch on Thursday, February 18th.
The fine surroundings set the tone for a competition that continues to develop, whilst the professional approach by each club and their representatives epitomizes the magnitude of what is the NSW Premier League.
2010 promises to provide an evenly matched playing field with no clear outright favourite in the lead-up to Round 1.
The usual suspects in Sutherland Sharks, Bankstown City, Sydney United, Marconi Stallions and Sydney Olympic start each season with a strong case for a tilt at the title, though the consistency of Manly United could state their own claims for a strong league run.
The talking point of the launch was that of the Bonnyrigg White Eagles however who were given the task of being the team to beat after securing as many as twelve new faces for the new season while Blacktown City were deemed the ‘dark horses’ of the NSW Premier League.
During the course of the NSW Premier League media launch two special guests in the form of Central Coast Mariners young gun Panny Nikas and Sydney FC’s Head of Football Stefan Kamasz were interviewed by MC and Football NSW Executive Manager of Commercial Services Tony Peters about their involvements with the NSW Premier League.
Nikas has had the NSW Premier League to thank after coming up through the ranks as a promising youngster at Bankstown City, Penrith Nepean United and more recently the Sutherland Sharks.
“The NSW Premier League will always hold a special place with me as it was where I developed as a footballer and got noticed by the Central Coast Mariners.
“I had a great year with the Sutherland Sharks last year as we won the Waratah Cup and the Championship and this is something I will never forget.”
Nikas has been starring with the Mariners’ youth side skippering the squad and also got some game time with the senior squad.
While Kamasz was equally proud to have said that the NSW Premier League clubs played a pivotal role in the success of the current batch of stars in the National Youth League squad as well as a few in the senior side.
“When you look at our Under 20’s side you will see that the players are littered with NSW Premier League experience and we are proud of that.
“We are also happy with the connection we have with Football NSW as well as the NSW Premier League clubs in pushing forward the sport of football.
“I know that the NSW Premier League is a great competition with some great players and it assists with the development of our game here in Australia.”
Representatives from all 12 NSW Premier League clubs were on hand to chat to the media about their chances for 2010 and this is what they had to say.
Rockdale City Suns:
Louie Belevski (General Manager): “We are extremely delighted to be back in the NSW Premier League and I am sure that the club along with the players will be fighting and raring to go when round 1 commences. We have been waiting for this day for a while now so it is up to the club and players to cement a permanent spot as being part of the NSW Premier League for good.”
Peter Apolevski (Captain): “We will definitely be competitive this season, even though we have just come up from the Super League. We have had some good results in pre-season, and even though pre-season matches are not worth three-points, we have managed to build some confidence up to boost the confidence amongst the team.”
Manly United FC:
Phil Moss (Coach): “The team has lost a lot of experience with Spencer Prior and Matthew Bingley leaving. In recent seasons we have been tipped as a chance for the title, though I don’t think we figure amongst the top contenders. We have a number of younger faces coming in, so I feel that we will really have a challenge ahead of us this season.”
Craig Midgley (Captain): “I had a difficult season in 2009 with injury, though the hamstring is coming along nicely. With the assistant coaching role, I am looking forward to the challenge of working alongside Moss (Phil Moss) and hoping to take as much experience from the challenge as possible. On the field, I will be hoping to have an injury free run and give the best of myself to the team.”
Sutherland Sharks:
Robbie Stanton (Coach): “Our pre-season has been a little ‘up-and-down’ with a number of injuries disrupting our preparations. However, I have had the chance to look at a few of the younger boys and am pleased with their response. We obviously have lost a couple of key elements from last year with the likes of Brad Boardman and Panny Nikas –these boys are moving on to take a further step in their careers, and I wish them well.”
Nick Stavroulakis (Player): “We’ve come a long way in recent years, and the achievements of last season will be difficult to repeat this time around. The mentality at the club is a winning one, and with the new boys coming into the set-up, there has been no change to this. We will be working hard to challenge from the start to the finish, and we hope to be there at the business end of the season.”
Bankstown City:
Richard Luksic (Captain): “I’ve been at the club for a long time now and I am happy with what I have seen in the pre-season. We’ve had some additions to the team, and at this point, I am confident that we can really put in a big challenge for a successful year.”
Peter Tsekenis (Coach): “We have a fairly mixed squad in-terms of youth and experience. A number of the Under 20s players have made the step-up and I am pleased with what they have shown in pre-season. I am at 36 years of age, and really it is a week-to-week prospect. As so long as I can compete and help the team, then I am happy.”
Sydney United:
Ivo Bosnar (Player): “The entire group is really looking forward to the new season. We have kept the core of last season’s squad, with some very important additions, and the belief amongst the group is that we can go all the way. We finished first last season in the regular season which was fantastic, though in Australia the champions are determined by who wins the grand-final, so we will be out to go that step further this time around.”
David Zdrilic (Coach/Player): “I am looking forward to the challenge. Getting into coaching, I could not see a better club to start at than Sydney United. We have a great group of players, and I am really happy with what I have seen in this pre-season. I believe the entire group at my disposal is more than capable of a starting spot, and this will help the club achieve our objectives this season.”
South Coast Wolves:
Jason Trifiro (Player): “The set-up is looking good so far, I am looking forward to the season. The opinions of a lot of people were very negative last season after the club finished last, though it is a new start for us, and we will be out to change those opinions.”
Trevor Morgan (Coach): “We will be looking to make a mark this season, no doubt. We’ve got a number of young boys coming through, though the Premier League experience of Jason Trifiro and Lisandro Berbis will definitely help.”
Sydney Olympic:
Pat Marando (Coach): “It is an exciting time for the team. We are re-building and we do expect a lot from ourselves. A number of young boys are coming through which is always a positive, and with the experienced heads of Anthony Doumanis and Mark Bosnich, I am sure we will get the young boys up to the required level very quickly. For me personally, coaching the first team is an honour. There is pressure at a club like Sydney Olympic, though I enjoy it. If there were no pressure then there would be no point in being there.”
Anthony Doumanis (Captain): “I’ve been at the club since I was a kid and it really is important to me. Off the field we have had some positive news with the facilities we will be using, and this will translate onto the playing surface no doubt. Last season we perhaps lacked a little ‘mongrel’ in the middle of the park, though I believe we will be a much stronger side this time around.”
West Sydney Berries:
John Calleja (Coach): “Our immediate goal is to improve on last season. We have succeeded in keeping the nucleus of the 2009 squad and in the meantime adding some extra depth to the squad. We really improved last season, on 2008’s showing, and in 2010 we aim to reach the semi-finals. We have a structure that has been implemented at the club, and I feel that we are on the right track to achieve a top-four finish.”
Aheleas Kotsopoulos (Captain): “I love this club, and last year I was honoured for 400 appearances, which was a fantastic feeling. We’ve come a long way since we came back into the top-flight. We survived in the first season, and really showed signs of improvement last season. 2010’s goal is to reach the finals, and give it our best efforts.”
Marconi Stallions:
Lee Sterrey (Coach): “We will have an additional two African imports at the club this season, and we hope these boys can deliver some additional flair and flavour to our performances. It will be a difficult year for the team, especially in trying to emulate last season’s run. We have had some cuts to the budget and now have a smaller playing squad, which will make our job a little tougher, though we will be giving it our all. Nahuel Arrarte has moved to Korea for a year, and we do wish him the very best over there, even though without someone like him in the middle, my job will be a little harder to find an experience replacement to slot in.”
Bonnyrigg White Eagles:
Cliff Pointer (Assistant Coach): “We’ve kept six of last season’s squad and recruited twelve new players, keeping a good blend of youth and experience. The whispers around the traps have it that we are one of the favourites, though I wouldn’t pay too much attention to that. Each of the squads appear to have recruited well and are looking strong at this early stage, so I am expecting a level playing field with the competition to run down to the last round of the season. In all though, our boys are gelling well together at this point which is pleasing.”
Paul Cotte (Captain): “Our group is a great one which is gelling really well together, despite a number of changes to the team last season. It will be competitive for starting spots and this is great as it will have everyone in the squad fighting for a starting spot. This will certainly give us a good chance of going far this year and doing well.”
A.P.I.A Tigers:
Luke McGuire (Coach): “Last year we finished in eleventh-spot, and our goal is obviously to improve on that this season. We too have included a number of young boys coming through the ranks which is something this club prides itself on. Realistically, at this point, our objective is to finish in the top-half of the table.”
Nick Rizzo (Player): “I came into the NSW Premier League competition, and I have been surprised with the good standard of play. Physically, the boys are all very strong, and I believe that a number of the players in the competition could walk into an A-League squad. Our situation looks positive with the young boys coming in, and the likes of Marton Vass and Paul O’Grady joining the club, so we will be aiming to improve on last season’s campaign.”
Blacktown City:
Aytek Genc (Coach): “I wouldn’t say our team will be a top-three side, though I feel that we will make life difficult for every team in the competition. We’ve got some experienced heads who will assist greatly with the young boys coming through the ranks, and I am sure we can reach our objective of a top-five finish. I enjoy coaching, and coming back to Blacktown City is a great feeling for me. We have had much success here in the past, and with the wonderful development model at the club, I believe we can aim high over the coming Edited by 19-SU-58: 18/2/2010 06:08:17 PM

NSW Premier League Round 1 Preview 23.02.10 08:57 Sydney United's new recruit Steven Hayes (left) in action against the West Sydney Berries during a pre-season friendly (Photo by Lee Apostolovski) The wait is finally over as the 2010 NSW Premier League season commences this weekend in what promises to be an entertaining first round of the competition. Bonnyrigg White Eagles open proceedings on Saturday evening against ‘new boys’ South Coast Wolves at Bonnyrigg Sports Club. The White Eagles have been tipped as a serious contender following a strong off-season both on the playing field and on the transfer market. Coach Brian Brown will be eager to unleash new striker Brad Boardman from the opening whistle, meanwhile new signings Shane Webb, Daniel Severino and Vuko Tomasevic will each be raring to go for their new club. South Coast Wolves will be out to change the opinions of many on-lookers in 2009 that saw Wollongong Community FC finish last on the League ladder. Coach Trevor Morgan has assembled a relatively young group, though will be looking at the Premier League experience of Lisandro Berbis and Jason Trifiro to mount a challenge on Saturday evening. Across at Marconi Stadium, last season’s grand-finalists Marconi Stallions open their 2010 campaign against West Sydney Berries. The Stallions have faced a difficult preparation for the new season with a smaller playing squad and their two new African imports Aguy Tape (Cameroon) and Ali Yamgue (Ivory Coast) missing the entire pre-season, though coach Lee Sterrey will be expecting a lot of new signing Matthew Hall and rising star Daniel Ott. The club was dealt with tough news though that their inspirational skipper Nahuel Arrarte has decided to part company with the squad and move to Korea where he was snapped up by K-League outfit Chunam Dragons. The Berries on the other hand enter season 2010 with much expectation on their shoulders. The squad made a huge leap forward under coach John Calleja in 2009, narrowly missing out on a finals berth. The side, again to be marshalled by experienced captain Aheleas Kotsopoulos, has maintained the core of last season’s squad, though with the addition of some very experienced campaigners has improved greatly the depth across the park. An exciting opening match is expected on Saturday evening. On Sunday evening, Sydney Olympic meets defending champion Sutherland Sharks at Belmore Sports Ground. The Blues lacked ‘mongrel’ at times in 2009, and despite the heavy favourites tag at the start of last season, failed to reach the finals series. New boss Pat Marando is convinced his newly assembled group – which possesses a fine mix of youth and experience – will be a different team in 2010. Olympic will have to do the 2010 season without former Socceroo keeper Mark Bosnich who has retired from the game but has become one of the club's new directors. The Blues will need to get out of the blocks quickly as Sutherland Sharks are eager to re-live the fine achievements of 2009. Robbie Stanton has lost a number of key elements from the 2009 Premiership winning squad, none bigger than Brad Boardman and Panni Nikas, though the additions of Ben Vidaic and Scottish import Steve McConologue promise to provide the Sharks with a wealth of experience. In the opening ‘official’ match of the season, the Blues carry the home ground advantage, though the Sharks led by George Souris will certainly prove a tough opponent to overturn. At Jensen Park, Bankstown City will be all guns blazing to get one over their 2009 elimination semi-final nemesis, Manly United FC. Bankstown has lost a number of experienced players from last season’s squad, including the likes of Shane Webb and Phillip Makrys, though player/coach Peter Tsekenis will be hoping to find goals from new signing Almir Dizdaric in-front of the Lions home crowd. Manly United FC enters the campaign perhaps a little under-done in comparison to previous seasons with the loss of a number of senior players in the off season. Coach Phil Moss will be hoping to cause what would be an opening day upset in case of a win on Sunday, though will require his experienced heads to lead a relatively young group of players into battle. Blacktown City FC welcomes back Aytek Genc to the senior coaching role on Sunday as the team plays its first official match at the newly named Lily Homes Stadium. Blacktown City FC has performed well in pre-season, and despite the hype surrounding this ambitious side, all personnel on board know that the task at hand will be a tough one. The Blacktown outfit welcomes A.P.I.A Leichhardt Tigers in a match where both sides will rate their chances of success. The Tigers finished 2009 on a downer will a low-table finish, raising expectations around the club for a much better showing in 2010. Franco Parisi and Robbie Younis are expected to find the goals this season, though the influence of Nick Rizzo out of midfield could well be the telling tale for the visitors on Sunday. The home side will be eager to unleash the talent of experienced midfielder Luke Roodenburg who returns to the club following two seasons away from the NSW Premier League competition. In the final match of the opening round, 2009 first past the post winners Sydney Unitedn opens its campaign with a home clash against the newly promoted Rockdale City Suns from the Super League competition. The Reds will unleash David Zdrilic in his new role of player/coach, as the side remains relatively strong with the core of the 2009 side unchanged at Sydney United Sports Centre. New signings Michael Cindric, Peter Zorbas and Shane Lyons promise to provide Zdrilic with many selection headaches this season as the Reds, on paper at least, appear to field the most established squad in the competition. For the new boys, Rockdale City Suns, there couldn’t have been a more difficult tie in their opening match to the competition than this trip to Edensor Park, though the morale across the group following pre-season appears to be high. Pece Apolevski will carry much of the responsibility on his shoulders this season with his speedy runs down the right-flank certain to provide the Suns with much flair throughout the campaign, though the opening round tie is certainly going to be a stern test on Sunday. -By Joseph Carlucci http://www.footballnsw.com.au/index.php?id=17&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=3371&tx_ttnews[backPid]=389&cHash=0179ee0a05

Certain clubs doing big things in the NSW PL, needs to have national recognition whne you can pull these types of crowds with no media u are a real club! come on mate lets me realistic here. i am a Sydney United fan but those figures are just  bonnyrigg never had over 3k at any match...they will get roughly close to 2k for that match. marconi v berries seems about right. Sydney Olympic over 3.5k, we will wait and see but i can only see roughly 2k bankstown v manly seems about right blacktown will get abit more then that. as for SU getting 3.5k, no chance, last season we only managed that once, and that was against sydney fc in a friendly where we easily reacher over 4k. our most last season was 2k when we played marconi and olympic... i predict we will get between 700-1200 like we normally do. this is coming from a realist point of view.

i judge the hype around the clubs in their inner circles and come up with these accurate examples
Speaking to two of my serb mates who live at bonno club all the talk season pass sales etc, going to be a big one for the serbs.
In regards to sydney united wait for it the croatians are jealous of olympic hype and dont want to be outshown.
Well be a big round, the NSWPL has never seen anything like this before

see you there!! Most likely due to the SFC vs Melbourne game at the SFS on the 7th. Should be a bigger crowd on a Saturday night at Belmore as well. i heard that as well... but i dont see how it would clash?? nevertheless saturday night should bring in a bigger crowd. SFC play on the 7th - 5pm kick off. Unless you mean it does not clash as fans from Olympic and United are most likely not SFC fans, which is a fair point. Maybe they are worried about the game getting lost in the 'hype' around the SFC - Melb game, which it most likely will except for die-hards.

Zdrilic hungry for more success in 2010 24.02.10 16:04 Sydney United Player/Manager David Zdrilic (centre) in action in the 2009 NSW Premier League season The heartache of last year’s Semi-Final capitulation has left Sydney United hungry for glory. David Zdrilic is the man in charge of guiding the Reds one step further in 2010, hoping to erase the scars of a devastating end to 2009 that saw United bow out of the finals series after winning the Premiership. ‘‘We were definitely good enough to go all the way,’’ Zdrilic said. ‘‘But you have to take a lot of pride out of finishing first by seven points and only losing four games all year.’’ Despite the wounds still proving painful to overcome for the boys from Edensor Park, Zdrilic insists version two of United’s premiership assault won’t be marred by the scars of last year. ‘‘We’re not dwelling on last year,’’ he said. ‘‘We have some fresh faces, a fresh outlook and some new motivation.’’ United have built on their impressive player roster, welcoming the likes of Steve Hayes, Michael Cindric, Peter Zorbas and Shane Lyons to Sydney United Sports Centre. The Reds will open their campaign this Sunday against competition new boys Rockdale City Suns, the first opportunity for the Reds to stamp their authority on the NSW Premier League. ‘‘At Sydney United we always set our goals very high and it has been that way since I started at this club,’’ Zdrilic said. "We’re used to winning and being on top and I expect nothing less than a grand final this season.’

Have to agree with David. Nothing less than a GF appearance will do. After the capitulation last season another failure just won't do.

If we had converted those GF appearances into wins we would be one of the most successful clubs in Australian footballing history. Really should have won in 88. That was the one that really got away.

Certain clubs doing big things in the NSW PL, needs to have national recognition whne you can pull these types of crowds with no media u are a real club! would love to see the state competition pulling crowds over 3000 with no media attention. Especially when GCU could only get a little over 4 in some big matches. But I really dont see those type of crowds. Sorry.

I luv the way 2-3k fans go to a state game - pay cash as there are no card facililies and 500 tickets seem to be sold - cask is KING and also fits nicely in the back pocket of these clubs
Keep it up:cool:

At Belmore Sports Ground, 2010 champions Sutherland Sharks suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Sydney Olympic in-front of a healthy crowd. Sydney Olympic withstood the early pressure from the Sharks before taking control of the match after the half-time break. Goals to Matthew Mayora and Chris Triantis ensured the Blues secured a first-up win for new boss Pat Morando, in a season where expectation around the club is very high following the disappointments of 2009.

Following the match, Sydney Olympic striker Matthew Mayora expressed his delight with the win:
“It was a good win for us.
“First-half we were a bit scrappy but in the second-half I thought we played some really great football so it is great to start the season with a win. It was good to be at home in front of a big crowd as well.’’

a very good win by blacktown. hopefully we can keep it up. got rockdale next round, so it will be interesting to see what rockdale has as they will be confident after their first win. and early signs are that bonnyrigg may just be the force that is expected of them.

Top of the table clash between two big guns in Bonnyrigg White Eagles and Marconi ended 0-0 with 2500.
Also defending champions Sutherland picked up their first points of the campaign with a 2-0 win over South Coast Wolves.
Sydney United now have a chance to go clear at the top today with a win over West Sydney but that's only if Blacktown fail to win against Rockdale.

So today Blacktown and Sydney United both missed gilt edged opportunities to go to the top of the table. With Sydney United drawing 1-1 with West Sydney Berries at home while Blacktown drew 2-2 with newcomers Rockdale City.
Manly got their season back on track weth a comfortable 3-0 win over APIA. While Sydney Olympic continued their poor start to the season drawing 2-2 with Bankstown.

Sutherland Sharks 1-1 Bonnyrigg White Eagles.
Marconi 2-1 APIA
So second draw in a row for Bonnyrigg moves them to 2nd on 8 points while Marconi move to 1st on 10 points with Blacktown and Sydney United behind them on 7. Blacktown play Sydney Olympic tomorrow and Sydney United are at home to South Coast Wolves.

I'd say around 4-500 since the Italians don't really care about Marconi anymore.

Sydney Olympic 1-4 Blacktown City Demons:lol:
So Blacktown join Marconi on top on 10 points but go first on goal difference after demolishing Sydney Olympic who's supposed revolution appears to be in tatters.
Sydney United 2-2 South Coast Wolves
So Sydney United go into 3rd place on 8 points after blowing a 2-0 half time lead and a chance to go first](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

Manly drew with Rockdale 1-1 and are in 6th place.
Also West Sydney got slaughtered by Bankstown 1-5 which puts them up to 5th place.

As a fan I'd rather my team on top from start to finish then get me nervous by trying to come from behind. Which a lot of the time leads to disappointment. Monie striking for the semi-finals 23.03.10 10:23
Sydney Olympic strike James Monie (centre) shown in action against the Sutherland Sharks in 2010 of the NSW Premier League season Sydney Olympic's 27-year old striker James Monie believes the opening fixtures to this season's NSW Premier League where they have pitched up against Sutherland Sharks, Bankstown City Lions and Sydney United will stand them in good stead for the campaign. “We didn't really have our full squad available until the first match of the season with new players coming in and a few injuries so we hadn't really had any time on the training pitch together.
"We've also got a few of the lads coming back from the A-League National youth teams who will be pushing for first team spots so there is a healthy rivalry for places at the moment and that's not a bad thing."
Matthew Mayora, Olympic's main striker, had a fantastic campaign in 2009 and is again up front this year but as Monie points out; "The service into the front two has been very good so far and there is plenty of goals in this team but where we've really stepped up is the fact that our defence has tightened up a lot and we are conceding far less than in recent times.
"In our match against Sydney United, one of the benchmark teams for 2010, we played well but in saying that we probably created more chances but didn't take as many but it's when we are not creating them that it becomes a worry.
"The more we create the more we will take over the course of matches and the confidence the back four and 'keeper are giving us it allows us to play a more attacking brand of football and we all want to make the semi-finals places at the very least.
"It's not just for the club and fans but the players really want to do well too and we would all feel disappointed if we don't make the semis at the very least and the old cliché is, of course, it's too early to tell but we are feeling good and improving with each match so who knows?"
Slipping under most critic's radar, perhaps this could be Olympic's year?

Not in the NSWPL it isn't. I'm happy with the crowds of 600-700 we get week in week out. If crowds were low and we were going shit on the pitch then I'd care but as long as the boys are gonna make the semis then I'm happy. Just because I don't need crowds to somehow justify the size of my club doesn't make me in any way weird. I know my club is big and I know they will make the semis unlike you who relies on crowds to make up for no semis football. Edited by sydneycroatia58: 29/3/2010 09:13:42 AM

the loss to bonnyrigg at home is tremendous Tremendous isn't the right word. Sure it's a loss that hurts but the boys will bounce back. We won the comp from 4th place in 2006 so won't surprise me if we sneak into the semis again and go all the way. We definately have the squad for it.

It wouldn't surprise me if fnsw play it behind closed doors to save themselves the trouble of crown violence. I think neutral venue and keep the losing supporters back an hour and make sure the winning supporters have cleared the area, but honestly the only way to ensure no crowd trouble is to play behind closed doors cgorac it's not as easy as just lifting the ban. It's not like any other group of supporters in Australia if they don't play behind closed doors we will see a repeat of 2005. Do you want that?

Our Club is very relevant to Australian football. To you our crowd is very significant. It's great to see over the first 4 home games we have gotten crowds over 1000.
Has any other Club achieved this?
My guess would be probably only Bonnyrigg W.E.
So it's good :)

Bit of a bump.
Anyways the Round 8 results from tonight.
Marconi 0-0 Blacktown City Demons The top of the table clash has ended in a 0-0 stalemate which sees Blacktown stay on top on 18 points and Marconi in second on 17.
Sutherland Sharks 0-3 Bankstown Lions Another bad result for the defending champions who find themselves languishing in 10th place.
Bonnyrigg White Eagles 1-1 Manly United Bonnyrigg fail to take advantage of the Blacktown - Marconi stalemate and stay in 3rd place on 15 points.
Good results from a Sydney United POV with u given the chance to go 1 point off the top with a win tomorrow against APIA.
Games tomorrow: Sydney Olympic (11th) vs West Sydney Berries (9th) 3pm Belmore Sports Ground
South Coast Wolves (8th) vs Rockdale City Suns (5th) 3pm WIN Stadium
Sydney United (4th) vs APIA Leichhardt Tigers (12th) 4pm Sydney United Sports Centre
So with only 6 points separating 5th-12th spot it's setting up to be another cracking season.

So with only 6 points separating 5th-12th spot it's setting up to be another cracking season. Bonnyrigg's goalkeeper was stretchered off and and Manly always tend to be a hard game for the white eagles and they weren't at there best tonight but a nice crowed i must say maybe around 700 - 1000 spectators

speaking to Jim Forest on Saturday night (president of FNSW) now this guy is against community based teams unless they are from a shire.
The rest he does not like e.g Olympic, United, Bonno
But he was saying how football is all about passion and these clubs have so much passion and there big browds this season apart from united have been refreshing and he league has had a big injection and it is good for the game in australia.
We did talk about the possibilities of SBS showing some games in the future and he said we are in negotiations, but the cost to SBS was the sticking block at the moment, but SBS is sounding out sponsors first.
Interesting times ahead for football in this country and not only in the top flight.

We're averaging around 600/700 a game... you guys are probably at 1000 and Bonno would be just under 1000 (apparently only had about 500 on Saturday) "big crowds apart from United" FFS
