I thought since there was no NSWPL thread I'd make one. The 2010 season sees Rockdale City Suns return to the top tier while Penrith Nepean United are relegated to the NSW Winter Super League.
Next season also sees the debut of South Coast Wolves FC a new club formed out of the defunct Wollongong Wolves. There are 12 teams with each team meeting eachother twice followed by a top 5 finals series.
The current Premiers are Sutherland Sharks FC and the current minor premiers are Sydney United.
The teams for the 2010 season and home grounds are as follows: A.P.I.A Tigers - Leichhardt Oval Bankstown City Lions - Jensen Park Blacktown City Demons - Gabbie Park Bonnyrigg White Eagles - Bonnyrigg Sports Club Manly United FC - Cromer Park Marconi Stallions - Marconi Stadium Rockdale City Suns - Bicentennial Park South South Coast Wolves - WIN Stadium Sutherland Sharks - Seymore Shaw Park Sydney Olympic - Belmore Sports Ground Sydney United - Sydney United Sports Centre West Sydney Berries - Lidcombe Oval

yeah i will be watching blacktown city again. i think we have a really good chance to make the finals series. genc is back and we all know what happened the last 2 seasons he was our manager. i posted this in the other thread but will do it again: this is how i think the ladder will look at the end of the season 1. manly 2. sutherland 3. bonnyrigg 4. sydney united 5. blacktown 6. sydney olympic 7. marconi 8. bankstown 9. APIA 10. west sydney 11. south coast 12. rockdale
winner of tiger turf cup: final will be bonnyrigg vs olympic. olympic to win it
rockdale to get relegated, with Parramatta Melita geting promoted

bonnyrigg have bought very well, but i think they will need time to adjust. syd olympic do look good but in the same story, i think they need some time to get the new 'revolution' through. syd united are always strong but loosing milic could affect them, or not blacktown city look good. we got genc back and a few returning players. manly and sutherland have been up there in recent years, and i expect this to continue, though manly could either loose their spot in the top 5 or win it, its just that close and unpredictable with that team, as seen as their last games last year. i expect rockdale to struggle, but dont know alot of that club and playing staff. west sydney and south coast to struggle as usual. marconi and bansktown to fight for the last place for the finals spot.
but yeah i do think manly will be the minor premiers. but they wont win the finals series. prob syd united will win the finals series as footballs ironic. the tiger turf cup will give the promising and new 'identity' sides such as bonnyrigg and olympic a chance to shine and get some silverware.
in saying all this i will prob get none right, as its just too unpredictable, which is what i love about this league

my first introduction to the tier below the A-League. Might pick Manly as my team seeing as they're probably the closest to where I live.
C'mon Manly!

I'd really like to know why the football nsw wont let a team from canberra play in the nswpl? Is it because we can compete and they dont like it? Or is it that it costs to much money to travel here? The players here in canberrra need a pathway, I know we have capital football and you have football nsw but cmon guys lets get it together.

Well there was Belconnen Blue Devils in about 4-5 years ago. Also I suspect the reason there is no team from Canberra in the NSWPL is the fact that Capital Football has their own Mens Premier League.

Yes there was the blue devils footballnsw kicked them out because we were beating the Sydney teams. Yes capital football do have their own PL comp but you have to take into consideration that Canberra has a population of 320,000 compared to 4 million in Sydney. When Canberra can bring together the best players from across their own PL comp they can compete with teams from Sydney but footballnsw dont like that. The im trying to make here is that players in Canberra need a pathway to the A-League because FFA dont seem to want to give us a team. Even if we do get an AL team we still need pathways. Playing in the local league does not offer enough exposure or enough strong competition for the local player.

I would assume it was to keep the traveling expenses down. Anyway, any A League club scout worth his salt would be attending many lower league matches to keep an eye on players...if not the parasite should be sacked.

This topic of interest was raised on the Capital Punishment Forum. A team in Canberra would be great for Canberran football in the build up to getting an A-League team. This would give us a brand and would also build up support so we would have an established core of supporters for when we enter the A-League.

Australian Football - For all your Socceroos, A-League and other Australian football discussion
Grass Roots Football - Discuss the Australian state leagues and your local football
Or would it be smarter to try discussing State League issues in AF so all the topics just dissapear instantly due to all the other more important threads???

EXPLAIN As Mus-28 has just posted, this forum is for State Leagues, and all football below that level. Last time I checked, the NSW Premier League was a state league. So pull your head in, or you'll be taking a long break. Edited by Funky Munky: 31/12/2009 01:20:34 PM

Yeah in that thread he tried to compare the NSWPL too the English Championship. Only problem with that is the Championship is a fully professional league whereas the NSWPL is only semi-professional. The equivalent in England would be the Blue Square Premier League IMO.
