Ok, afro has been busting my balls for screen shots of some of my better regens - here just the start: I've put up Lord again, and then four from my 2012-13 Roar squad. I'll do the Nix another time (where I have the same number and quality, maybe even better). The reason for doing it? I'm thinking that I've copped more than my fair share of quality regens simply because I chose the A-League in this particular game - maybe a disproportionate number of regens ended up in Aus and NZ because of that alone??? http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/2ZWxfRkLt3d9GHOn8C8Jig?feat=directlinkI hope you enjoy!! Yeh - it's great when you have blokes who can play both wings - if I'm desperate, I might even put someone out of position if it means trying to get more out of another player - it is amazing how things can turn around very quickly with small tweaks like that. I'll try imageshack again - I registered and all, but it seemed to get stuck uploading the picture (and I have a pretty good internet set up too). I just wanna see if this works: hmm - maybe that works better?? or maybe not?? Edited by pippinu: 30/4/2009 06:14:36 PMEdited by pippinu: 30/4/2009 06:16:04 PM

Quote:what about the photos feature on Gmail - will that work or is that just for people on Gmail? Fucking no idea. Google know enough about me without controlling my email thanks. Quote:Over time, I've gotten more in the habit of setting up my players to suit their game - and worrying less about the opposition (but sometimes you have to make exceptions). Yeah, I tend to play my own game, but every now and again you come up against someone like Totti or Messi or Kaka and it's a tough call with what to do and how to go about taking them out of the game. Fortunately I've got Veloso and Gerrard who can both give as much as they take. Quote:Lastly, if things aren't going well, by about half way through the first half I'll have a close look at the stats for both my team and the other team - and that will tell you immediately who is doing most of the damage and who from your own team is getting well marked - and that can give real good pointers as to what needs tweaking immediately etc. Swapping wingers and strikers around is trally good for throwing a spanner in the works and fixing any players that have been struggling I find. Quote:I went home and tried using imageshack, but it was just as painful -I might give Gmail a go? Really? It's simply a case of going to the upload image section and going "Browse" and uploading the image. And then posting the direct link to the image here. You DID go to imageshack.us right? Becuse there was another far more iritating image site floating around for a bit.

anyone know how i can properly "expand" the a-league via data editor. I already know that i have to swap teams in another league, and ive done that and it works but just before the draw comes out it does the ol "crash dump error" can someone tell me what i'm doing wrong, or what i should be doing?

sf whenever I've had the situation where I have inherited a useless player at a very large weekly salary - I simply offer him up at a zero transfer cost (or very low) to get the interest - or I might start highish, but keep dropping it until someone bites.
At times I have offered the same player up to clubs five times in five days! (dropping the price till it reaches zero - all of a sudden everyone wants a piece of the action!)
It's better to get these sorts of players off your books as early as possible - at a minimum, you're saving 52 x $5,000 or $260,000, which in most cases will pay for two very good players (maybe even give you some change).
You could even get 4 very good 18 year olds, and develop them for future years (if you're not playing Prentice, you can afford taking the time to develop some youngsters).

Into the quarter finals for ACL with Sydney. Trying to sell off two players (prentice and someone else) as their wages are disgraceful and i ain't even using them. around $5000 each. Both their contracts expire next year but trying to sell them now as if i try to buy some new peeps i can't offer them much cause im over wage budget by about $10000. It was $20000 when i came so its going down. Got Nick Carle on a free from Crystal Palace. He's 30. Wanted 7000, offered 5000, he took it :) Sold Chris Triantis for 2.7mil. He was good but unhappy. I think Leijer is about to go aswell. He asked to be put on transfer and i accepted. 800k 3 clubs have offered so i think hes gonna sign for them soon. Hes good but i got a new defender whoose better as i had a feeling this might happen...

Afro I was going to put up both pictures (I always look at the polygon lie detector first to get a feel for the player) - but it was such a hassle - I'll try imageshack tonight, if that's a bit easier, I'll put some more up - what about the photos feature on Gmail - will that work or is that just for people on Gmail?
Re marking playermakers - I have to confess I don't have any hard and fast rules - it will often depend on the formations and who I have handy etc.
If it happens that their playmaker is in an MC slot, then I will mark him tightly with my more defensive MC (if I'm playing with two MCs, say, in a standard 442, a 433 or an attacking 4231).
Over time, I've gotten more in the habit of setting up my players to suit their game - and worrying less about the opposition (but sometimes you have to make exceptions).
For instance, if players have a high marking rating, regardless of what position they're in - I will try and use that strength (although some players have very high marking and creativity ratings - so sometimes I have to decide whether I want to use one or the other, say, in a free role - and that might depend more on the formation I want to use).
An example is Valiente - he's a natural central defender who can play DM and MC - his defensive skills are very good, but so is his passing and creativity! I use him as my playmaker in a free role playing from DM in a go forward role. This means that he is less likely to get marked, and because of his high intelligence ratings, his decision making about going forward and defending are pretty good - in fact, he's fantastic!! (a stack of European clubs are already lining up to sign him - it was sheer fluke that I got him in the first place).
If I want to close a game down (after taking the lead) - I'll give him someone to mark tightly, and he will do that quite well.
Lastly, if things aren't going well, by about half way through the first half I'll have a close look at the stats for both my team and the other team - and that will tell you immediately who is doing most of the damage and who from your own team is getting well marked - and that can give real good pointers as to what needs tweaking immediately etc.

Just wondering what people do when they're issuing instructions on how to deal with opposition playmakers. Do they mark them directly? Or Close them down? Mark them tightly? Show them onto the wrong foot? Or leave them open and cut off their supply and targets? Personally, I prefer to mark them, show them onto the wrong foot and pressure all the surrounding players out of passing to them :-k

Yeah, that's interesting pip, but I'd rather see his actual numerical attributes with which to judge, that's what I look at when I'm making transfers etc. I recommend using Imageshack aswell. Bit easier to negotiate your way through. Quote:They all have the weird computer generated photos. You can turn that off if you want.

Players regenerated by the game. New players made to keep the game going. When you play long enough the game will eventually be full of regens. They all have the weird computer generated photos.

Great manager name you have there. Good player.
He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

Ok - this is the first regen I ever came across - playing with SFC as a 17 year old (now 20 and worth $4.5 mill playing with PSG). I've shown his polygon against Mundy, a good A-League defender. I have to admit - I found this photobucket busines a hassle, so unless someone can explain how to make it a bit easier, I might give it a miss. http://s649.photobucket.com/albums/uu212/pippinu24/?action=view¤t=Lord1.jpg

Could you post what you consider to be a really good regen (a screen shot of one) and I'll see how many similar I have. Can you explain again how to do it again? It's possible I'm exaggerating, but it seems to me that when you stumble across 17 year olds with massive pin wheels (to use someone's expression) - it sort of makes you sit up and take notice!! Also one minute, the NT U19s are full of players like Tommy Oar, just so so, then the next there's these kids coming out of the woodwork who can star in the A-League straight away! (so that by the 2012-13 season, the bulk of my better players in the Roar and Nix are 17 to 19 year old regens!!)

Ah, but if you get a series of offers where somebody spills the beans on you and your assistant tells you that it's leaked, THAT will upset the players. It's a risky game to play. And he was born here, so he doesn't count as a foreigner :D Quote:Speaking of regens - it occurred to me that this particular game I'm talking about, it was an A-League only comp (that's all I ticked from the start) - so is it possible that I ended up with a higher pecentage of quality regens than I would normally end up with in a game where, say, a dozen comps are ticked? I can confirm that after the first two A-League seasons in FM09, the market opens up for A-League players and you can buy players off each other.
I'm not sure whether this is something that will happen for real in the A-League (maybe there was just a moratorium for the first 5 seasons??) - or whether it's just something silly happening in FM (which wouldn't surprise me either).
I recently returned to an old A-League game that I had left near the start of 2012-13, and got there just in time for the November transfer window, and had some fun buying players from other clubs (most of whom are broke and will sell anyone and everyone!)
No one of note - at this stage, the better players are already all the regens, especially those who are now 19 (having burst onto the scene as precocious 17 year olds!).
Someone mentioned having won the WCC with an A-League club - that's something I'm yet to achieve, but I'm in the a semi final against Inter tonight, so I'm looking forward to that - they have a few injuries so it might be my day!
Plus it will be the last hurrah for my Croatian international who will soon move to the French League, for a sweet $2.9 mill - I'm confident he will do the job on Ibrahimovic!
Speaking of regens - it occurred to me that this particular game I'm talking about, it was an A-League only comp (that's all I ticked from the start) - so is it possible that I ended up with a higher pecentage of quality regens than I would normally end up with in a game where, say, a dozen comps are ticked?
It's a thought that occurred to me the other day - it can help explain why over the years, you can assemble an awesome A-League team that can actually be competitive in the WCC!! (both my Roar and Nix teams are pretty good with regens I would happily take in my other NEC game).
Just as an example, in my Nix team, I have a 19 year old AMC with passing of 16 and creativity of 18 - which is a bloody good score in the A-League! Then I have a few blokes with corners of 19, and a midfield where everyone has passing of 14s and 15s.
As I said - I'd happily take these ratings in the Eredivisie!

Hah this is hilarious. Just realised I can cause transfer movements just by bidding on players with "WNT" in their name.
Just went to the top 5 clubs in the Championship, offered for anyone with the WNT in their status (and a few who aren't for testing purposes), and I've had about 15 other offers on those players. It's hilarious. As soon as you make a bid, everyone else knows about it, and they all make their own bids to not miss out.
I can offer the club nothing, and everyone else will still bid normally. It's great for unsettling their players, probably won't exactly help their team either. I've already caused 4 players to move and it's only been games since I started doing it.
In league news, I'm doing surprisingly well. Despite not really having a smashing tactic, and having sold my best striker (was last year of contract, got 4.5 mil for him), after doing a few replacements, we are 3rd after 20. Seems like we are drawing games we would normally lose, and winning a few we would normally draw. 9w-7d-4l 34 points.
If we don't fuck it up after Christmas (I've been switching around tactics as well to hopefully beat the January cracking/reputation shift) we might push for Automatic Promotion, or at least secure a play-off spot.
