If Italy had won 3-0 (and let's face it they/we could have)it would have hurt but I would have just been proud australia got that far.
It was the cruelty that will haunt me forever

Its funny...Untill '06 I only EVER referred to Italy as "we" yet now sometimes a "they" slips out when referencing "that" game

My best mate is a 1st generation Italian and he was waring his Socceroos strip and had the Italian flag painted on his face at the last world cup. he was absolutely devistated after the game, as it is okay to enjoy a well earned victory but to go out and through like that was just pure agony.

haha that's what I was like with the Australia v Croatia game last WC. It was the first time I've ever had to divide loyalties like that thank god it was a draw:lol:

Australia is a given but Germany has been my nation as i am a descendant of the fatherland since I ws a child.

1st game is going to be a true stickler for me. glad to be sitting in my lounge room alone for this one.

England then australia

3. England I have always followed english football
4. Netherlands the greatest football country to never win the world cup
5. Spain have never won it before

I am only supporting Germany as a second team because its part of my heritage, should put down france aswell but i'm part Irish too so it sort of works itself out.

As long as we don't play NZ we should all support them, doing the a-league proud :)

Australia, Germany, Holland (and I know of the Dutch-German rivalry but I don't care about it personally), and England.

I also want all the Asian teams, as well as New Zealand, to do well so when they are looking at numbers of teams per Confederation for the next WC they have less reason to rip us off. Because if all the Asian nations perform poorly and let's say the South American nations do really well ie they all go through to the round of 16, then don't be surprised if they argue for one of our spots or half-spots - history shows they're dirty in the back rooms of FIFA.
