If he gets reguar game time in Europe he should be starting in the Asian Cup and maybe even 2014.

Crazy isn't it. 28 should be in his prime but he's a gonner. Promised to add so much to the national side. But I don't think it would be justifiable to say he has done much except improve the A-league while he was here.

Nick's only fault has been his attitude/work rate, whereas the majority of our Socceroos have poor technical skills but their attitude/work rate can never be questioned.

And Arsene would know his stuff, particularly with youngsters.
Socceroossupporter Nicky Carle has improved his work rate IMMENSELY since having played in the Championship. Any one that knows about english football knows you wouldn't last a minute there if you didn't work, and Nicky earned him self quite a few starts at Palace.
His last couple of appearances with the Socceroos he has been nothing but impressive.
Clearly you actually have little to no idea about what you're talking about.

I think Nicky's ideal position would be in a 442 formation with him playing at the tip of the diamond midfield just behind the strikers. Problem is that Pim likes to play 4321 With 2 wide players behind the striker running in from wide positions. I don't think that style of play suits Nicky (actually I don't think it suits us at all ) In saying that I think he should be on the list as an impact player

By the way my above comment is not trying to say that he deserves to be in the final 23, just defending him against Soccoeroossupporter's silly opinion. I agree with robbieMVFC regarding the formation etc and I would also have him in the team as an impact player.

THIS IS WHY WE NEED HIM!!!! madsaman that clip is pure G-O-L-D. It should be shown to every youngster starting out in our game - that's the level of technique to which every Aussie football should aspire. Those technical skills are taught, nurtured and encouraged in futsal. Let's hope by 2022, every Socceroo can have the sublime touch and technique of Nick Carle.

So since I like both AFL and the socceroos, but choose not to follow a particular club, that means I will never understand the brilliance (lol) of Nick Carle?:p Give me a break. I may not follow a particular club, but I certainly do watch quite a bit of club football, particularly on justintv. Also attend weekly J-league matches. Furthermore, I actually lied a little bit when I first joined this forum, come to think of it; I used to watch the English Premier League highlights show like a religion back in the 1990s. For what its worth, I actually did play a lot of football back in high school and primary (Who didn't?). Carles cool dribblin' n' stuff doesn't count for much in my book. Clearly you actually have little to no idea about what you're talking about. Admittedly, I don't watch much English football (Quite frankly, I couldn't give a rats about English football... I lost interest a long time ago), but the fact that Nicky Carle has received little to no game time and gone crawling back to the A-League indicates that he is crap. I also watched all of his matches for the socceroos and from where I was watching, he really isn't anything special, as much as you Carle cultists try to prove otherwise. One thing that clip shows is how much leaner and fitter Carle is these days. He looks like one of the Newcastle fans in some of those Jets shirts.

those skills arent all that good...
i mean sure he is a skilled player but hes up against a league players in that clip. i mean i just dont think he is all that useful. bresciano, emerton, kewell and cahill are all better than him in attack and, in my opinion, more technically skilled. you just dont see it as much cause they arent up against players from the a-league.

You've further demonstrated you ignorance about the subject matter. Nicky Carle has not re-joined the HAL. 2. Jason Culina came back to the HAL and he's one of the 1st picked for the Socceroos; of course, with your deep AFL-based knowledge of football you may also have issues with Jason? 3. Nick Carle has only played 12 times for the Socceroos and he's always been creative and added something to the team. Everyone has an opinion, but to state "he's a dud" or "can't play" is factually incorrect. Edited by DR1964: 14/5/2010 03:24:09 PM

As DR1964 noted he has not "come crawling back", Sydney are fighting to get his signature and are willing to pay a large fee for him.
At palace this season he's got 17 appearances with 8 starts in a turbulent side battling (and surviving) relegation all whilst going into Administration. This is not the type of side that would play some one that only has "fancy dribbling" or what ever it is you said. He has transformed him self into a hard working team player.

Edited by DR1964: 14/5/2010 03:24:09 PM You're forever going to say, "well, you follow the AFL there you are stoopid," whenever you disagree with me, aren't you? :p 1) Not yet, anyway. :) 2) Hey, Jason Culina actually made a choice when he came back to the A-League. He was playing for a top club in PSV and made the a decision to come back to the A-League and took a big personal risk. He turned down a contract with PSV. Carle on the other hand is playing for a minnow like Crystal Palace, has been on the bench as of late and would probably jump in head-first at an opportunity to play for a club like PSV. There is no comparison with Jason Culina and Nicky frickin Carle. 3) I've never been terribly impressed with Carle's contribution during socceroos matches and neither has our coach, apparently. The fact that he can do a few cool tricks with the ball doesn't equate to winning an actual match. OBVIOUSLY Carle CAN play, because he's playing in the Championship and this alone proves he's a really good footballer. Though, the way everyone carries on about him like he's Harry Kewell is nauseating.

B) The video goes for 4 minutes and 42 seconds and a football match goes for 90 minutes. C) The video contains highlights of one match. Perhaps I should create a compilation of Nicky 'I can do a neat little trick' Carle's most clumsy moments from one particular match to prove that he's been crap over his whole career? :-"

@ madzaman : I honestly wouldn't worry too much about the opinions of an Aussie Rules fan, like socceroossupporter.
Perhaps, it's "the football snob" in me, but I'd be a tad disappointed if someone with socceroossupporter's background actually understood the beauty of Nicky Carle's footballing prowess.
To understand the skill and technique required in football requires a deep understanding of football, which socceroossupporter clearly lacks.

It's a 'joke' how many times haters have used that particular video in futile attempts to discredit Holman. It's a 'joke' how people can take that video seriously. It's a 'joke' that people consider Carle (Plays for Crystal Palace and is the clubs official waterboy) better than Holman (Gets regular game time for AZ Dutch champions 2008-2009). It's a 'joke' that people regard their opinion of these players better than the managers of Crystal Palace, AZ and Australia. Oh the hilarity. #-o Edited by socceroossupporter: 14/5/2010 04:30:52 PM

LOL socceroossupporter 4 minutes and 42 seconds is a lot of time on the ball in a football match, perhaps you don't realise how little time with the ball each player actually gets in a game of football.
With respect to Holman he has been doing well at his club but time and time again he has disappointed at National level.

To understand the skill and technique required in football requires a deep understanding of football, which socceroossupporter clearly lacks. I know what you mean, DR1964. Someone who follows Aussie Rules couldn't possibly know the skill and technique God bestowed upon Nicky Carle. If you like Australian Rules as well as football... you don't have a deep understanding of football skills and technique. It's all becoming so clear now. Why didn't I think of it myself? #-o  (On a serious note, if football supporters really want to appeal to new supporters and grow the game in Australia, you should refrain from speaking down to Australian Rules and/or rugby league supporters JUST because they choose to follow more than one sport and be understanding and not discriminative. It's extremely counter-productive and will turn people off the game)
