What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Carle Ready For World Cup Fight?
SOCCEROO Nick Carle is ready to fight for a spot on the plane to South Africa, but he knows it is going to be tough to realise a childhood dream.

Have your say.

Crazy isn't it. 28 should be in his prime but he's a gonner. Promised to add so much to the national side. But I don't think it would be justifiable to say he has done much except improve the A-league while he was here.

Surely, you cannot be serious?

Other than Harry and Bresciano, can you kindly name a single Australian footballer that has:
* better technique
* better vision and
* the ability to deliver a killer pass that can unlock the tightest defence?

If Nicky Carle is a dud, then the whole Socceroos squad are also duds.

Nick's only fault has been his attitude/work rate, whereas the majority of our Socceroos have poor technical skills but their attitude/work rate can never be questioned.

With all due respect, you've already told us you are an AFL supporter, who also watches the Socceroos, which is why you will never understand the brilliance of Nick Carle.

Unless you've played the Game - at any level - and really understand the nuances of the perfect flick, the shimmy of the hips, the movement of players off the ball, how the assess and execute the perfect pass - you will never understand Nick Carle.

Attitude and work rate can be improved at any stage in life.

According to Arsene Wenger, ...

if a player doesn't have good technique by age 13, he will never have good technique.

And Arsene would know his stuff, particularly with youngsters.

Socceroossupporter Nicky Carle has improved his work rate IMMENSELY since having played in the Championship. Any one that knows about english football knows you wouldn't last a minute there if you didn't work, and Nicky earned him self quite a few starts at Palace.

His last couple of appearances with the Socceroos he has been nothing but impressive.

Clearly you actually have little to no idea about what you're talking about.

I think Nicky's ideal position would be in a 442 formation with him playing at the tip of the diamond midfield just behind the strikers. Problem is that Pim likes to play 4321
With 2 wide players behind the striker running in from wide positions. I don't think that style of play suits Nicky (actually I don't think it suits us at all )
In saying that I think he should be on the list as an impact player

By the way my above comment is not trying to say that he deserves to be in the final 23, just defending him against Soccoeroossupporter's silly opinion. I agree with robbieMVFC regarding the formation etc and I would also have him in the team as an impact player.

madsaman that clip is pure G-O-L-D.

It should be shown to every youngster starting out in our game - that's the level of technique to which every Aussie football should aspire.

Those technical skills are taught, nurtured and encouraged in futsal. Let's hope by 2022, every Socceroo can have the sublime touch and technique of Nick Carle.

I see. So since I like both AFL and the socceroos, but choose not to follow a particular club, that means I will never understand the brilliance (lol) of Nick Carle?:p Give me a break. I may not follow a particular club, but I certainly do watch quite a bit of club football, particularly on justintv. Also attend weekly J-league matches. Furthermore, I actually lied a little bit when I first joined this forum, come to think of it; I used to watch the English Premier League highlights show like a religion back in the 1990s.

For what its worth, I actually did play a lot of football back in high school and primary (Who didn't?).

Carles cool dribblin' n' stuff doesn't count for much in my book.

Admittedly, I don't watch much English football (Quite frankly, I couldn't give a rats about English football... I lost interest a long time ago), but the fact that Nicky Carle has received little to no game time and gone crawling back to the A-League indicates that he is crap.

I also watched all of his matches for the socceroos and from where I was watching, he really isn't anything special, as much as you Carle cultists try to prove otherwise.

those skills arent all that good...

i mean sure he is a skilled player but hes up against a league players in that clip. i mean i just dont think he is all that useful. bresciano, emerton, kewell and cahill are all better than him in attack and, in my opinion, more technically skilled. you just dont see it as much cause they arent up against players from the a-league.

1. You've further demonstrated you ignorance about the subject matter. Nicky Carle has not re-joined the HAL.

2. Jason Culina came back to the HAL and he's one of the 1st picked for the Socceroos; of course, with your deep AFL-based knowledge of football you may also have issues with Jason?

3. Nick Carle has only played 12 times for the Socceroos and he's always been creative and added something to the team.

Everyone has an opinion, but to state "he's a dud" or "can't play" is factually incorrect.

As DR1964 noted he has not "come crawling back", Sydney are fighting to get his signature and are willing to pay a large fee for him.

At palace this season he's got 17 appearances with 8 starts in a turbulent side battling (and surviving) relegation all whilst going into Administration. This is not the type of side that would play some one that only has "fancy dribbling" or what ever it is you said. He has transformed him self into a hard working team player.

You're forever going to say, "well, you follow the AFL there you are stoopid," whenever you disagree with me, aren't you? :p

1) Not yet, anyway. :)
2) Hey, Jason Culina actually made a choice when he came back to the A-League. He was playing for a top club in PSV and made the a decision to come back to the A-League and took a big personal risk. He turned down a contract with PSV. Carle on the other hand is playing for a minnow like Crystal Palace, has been on the bench as of late and would probably jump in head-first at an opportunity to play for a club like PSV. There is no comparison with Jason Culina and Nicky frickin Carle.
3) I've never been terribly impressed with Carle's contribution during socceroos matches and neither has our coach, apparently. The fact that he can do a few cool tricks with the ball doesn't equate to winning an actual match.

OBVIOUSLY Carle CAN play, because he's playing in the Championship and this alone proves he's a really good footballer. Though, the way everyone carries on about him like he's Harry Kewell is nauseating.

Gee... that's a toughie.

A) The video has been deliberately edited to include Brett Holman's worst moments in the match.
B) The video goes for 4 minutes and 42 seconds and a football match goes for 90 minutes.
C) The video contains highlights of one match.

Perhaps I should create a compilation of Nicky 'I can do a neat little trick' Carle's most clumsy moments from one particular match to prove that he's been crap over his whole career? :-"

@ madzaman : I honestly wouldn't worry too much about the opinions of an Aussie Rules fan, like socceroossupporter.

Perhaps, it's "the football snob" in me, but I'd be a tad disappointed if someone with socceroossupporter's background actually understood the beauty of Nicky Carle's footballing prowess.

To understand the skill and technique required in football requires a deep understanding of football, which socceroossupporter clearly lacks.

It's a 'joke' how many times haters have used that particular video in futile attempts to discredit Holman.

It's a 'joke' how people can take that video seriously.

It's a 'joke' that people consider Carle (Plays for Crystal Palace and is the clubs official waterboy) better than Holman (Gets regular game time for AZ Dutch champions 2008-2009).

It's a 'joke' that people regard their opinion of these players better than the managers of Crystal Palace, AZ and Australia.

Oh the hilarity. #-o

LOL socceroossupporter 4 minutes and 42 seconds is a lot of time on the ball in a football match, perhaps you don't realise how little time with the ball each player actually gets in a game of football.

With respect to Holman he has been doing well at his club but time and time again he has disappointed at National level.

I know what you mean, DR1964. Someone who follows Aussie Rules couldn't possibly know the skill and technique God bestowed upon Nicky Carle.

If you like Australian Rules as well as football... you don't have a deep understanding of football skills and technique.

It's all becoming so clear now. Why didn't I think of it myself? #-o

[size=3](On a serious note, if football supporters really want to appeal to new supporters and grow the game in Australia, you should refrain from speaking down to Australian Rules and/or rugby league supporters JUST because they choose to follow more than one sport and be understanding and not discriminative. Meh. He's a coaches player. He does most of his work off the ball than on the ball anyway.

Quick, someone start an argument that has been done a hundred times before on this forum.

I don't think Carle realises just how much work he actually has to do here to be in contention.

As usual a bunch of people who claim to be football supporters feel they need to bag out those who like other codes. Regardless of your view of holman/carle, shut the hell up when it comes to bagging out people who like football and something else.

I LOVE football and so want to see as many people watching it in Australia as possible. Bagging out socceroossupporter does no good for the game, and is very ANTI-football. You think you are going to convert AFL or NRL supporters by calling them all idiots who can't appreciate skill? That is the most moronic thing I have ever heard. Let football speak for itself, lets positively encourage non-fans into liking football, or else get lost.

Tbh, I love the way football fans don't hesitate to pay out AFL, but when AFL does something to play down football they're up in arms about it. Glass houses boys and girls.

It's amusing all the same.

Kamaryn please show the "bunch of people" that have bagged out other codes in this thread. I can only think of one user that has pointed out that Socceroossupporter is an ARL supporter. I haven't said anything about the other codes.

afromanGT I agree I don't think Carle really has any chance of getting into the 23.

I'm with socceroossupporter (not about carle). PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED TO WATCH MORE THAN ONE SPORT. I personally like all sport and can watch any sport thats on tv and enjoy it. Aussie Rules is not a bad sport, just because someone watches it doesn't mean their opinion is moot. Get over yourselves people.

Interesting observation both football and AFL have simalarilties in that movement off the ball, body shape when approaching, holding and distributing are important to fluid play. To think that unless you are committed from birth to only one code of sport gives you less understanding or insight to another sport is a very closed minded view, just remember DR1964 no one owns football it is the world game.
I think Nick should be there, I believe he is capable of pulling off something special given the chance.

I like both Holman and Carle and they both bring something different to the team. Holman brings running and work-rate and harassing play, sometimes getting balls others wouldn't get near, and he also draws opposition players off the ball and gives more room for his team-mates. Carle brings technical excellence, trickery, neat passing and is bloody fun to watch. The value of each is different depending on the opposition, weather, location but most of all tactics and formation. And herein lies the answer to who will get the nod, or whether there is room for both in the 23. The way Pim usually lays a team out favours Holman, but if we need a win in the third group match and Pim was willing to gamble on a 4-4-2 then Carle might get the nod in that match (and interestingly that would bring McDonald into the line-up also). But I don't think there's room for both, otherwise one less 'wide' midfielder will be in the 23, such as Vidosic or Garcia, and we need a couple of other wide players to back up Bres and Emo.

Pity we can't clone both Holman and Carle into one person. Maybe that's what our kids will be playing like by 2022, a mixture of high technique and unmatched industry. Here's hopin!

True, so now go and preach equality on an AFL site (do they have them?) and see how you go.

I'm a Nick Carle fan, but I just wondered why there are articles on Nick Carle, saying he's going to give it his all etc. etc., when it can be assumed this applies to all the fringe players who are fighting for spots on the team. Why does 442 and TWG run stories only on Carle? Just curious.

Carle will make the squad. The only problem is he has a national manager who does not know his real worth. Under another manager (Guus Hiddink) the best would've been brought out of him lonk ago.
