no real surprise there, we all expected that to happen realistically. regarding in Carle missing out that is. What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Carle Axed From Roos WC Squad? TOMMY Oar and James Holland are on the plane to South Africa in the Socceroos World Cup squad - but Nicky Carle failed to make the grade and has been axed by Pim Verbeek.Have your say.

I just don't get it!
The squad of 31 had 4 technically gifted play-makers: Kewell, Culina, Bresciano and Carle.
Players who can do the unexpected; the pass that cuts through the most disciplined defence.
What is it about Nicky Carle - that I don't see - and makes managers overlook him???

well that settles it, Carles going to sydney. Dumb decision to axe Mcdonald. sure he ahsnt scored any goals at int level but its a bit hard when hes only 5ft 7 and he hvaing the ball played in the air to him. Fuck this formation! We barely have any striekrs as it is and he cuts another. Carle getting cut ahead of holland who has been playing az ressies all season is bullshit. I dont care if hes young and hes in it for the exp its just bullshit. North i expected to go, but i was expecting the 3 to be north holland and lowry.

Carle is a one trick pony. He has done stuff all in an Australian shirt, and he has done stuff all at club level other than having a good run at Newcastle where the league was fairly shit at the time anyway.
It's not enough just to be gifted anymore. You actually have to kick on and do something with that gift, and keep working hard at maintaining form.

I've lost complete faith in Pim. He takes JAMES HOLLAND (who i love) over Nicky Carle? Fuck giving youth experience this is the world cup it's not the time to be giving youth "experience" it's about taking our best players.
FUCKING BULLSHIT.

He's not going to make experienced players like Carle and Macdonald go to South Africa to do nothing, they would prefer a holiday. Then their is likely a 4th who is genuinly their in case their is an injury.

the bias towards dutch based players is amazing....holman has had the preferential treatment the whole time despite not being anywhere near the player carle is......james holland in there because he plays ressies for a dutch team when other youngsters such as kilkenny, wesolowski, nathan burns etc. have been doing great guns for their first teams and can't get a look in.
on a more positive note (yes - sarcasm) we have 85 defensive midfielders in the squad.....grella, culina, valeri, jedinak, wilkshire, williams, emerton are all strong in this position (anyone think this is overkill)....oh and holland believes this is his strongest position too
very, very surprised about scotty mac. we are extremely thin up front.....if jesus gets injured and harry is still under a cloud then I am worried....ruka has pace but isn't really a strong/skilful target man.

scotty mac would have been bullied by our opponents at the world cup as well as nicky carle as for jade north ? the fact remains our opponents are physically strong and we all know scotty mac and nicky carle would struggle against big strong opponents.

No your right, now were locked into a system that doesn't work for us with no back up plan. He may not have scored for us yet but you can't argue with the fact that the lad knows where the goal is at club level. Add to that he's experience and the fact that it is probably only a matter of time before he actually starts putting them away. I have faith in him and would like to see the coach have some as well.

Second best centreforward might be Chippers. Agree about the 85 DMs! But also needs backups for the walking wounded. Lowry for Williams, Oar/Ruka for Kewell. Goalkeepers for Schwarz.

What a joke. He drops MacDonald after forcing him to play in a system that makes him completely impotent. A goal poacher like Scott MacDonald wil never win a physical battle with a good defender, yet he continues to play him. Seriously what does he expect?
He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

But that's Pim, eh? Anyone studying us will soon realise that we are set up to play one way and one way only. If we get in trouble, there's no backup plan (no, Ruka or Tommy Oar on the bench is not a backup plan). Look on the bright side. It's worked so far, so it could keep working for a few more weeks... If not, it's only four more years. Or maybe 32.

Poor Scotty Mac, he's got no friends and nobody knows why. Maybe it's his haircut?
On a serious note, this is the weirdest fucking build-up to a World Cup ever. If the Socceroos come out and play Germany off the park in that first game I reckon half the nation is gonna have to be hospitalised with shock. We'll probably be down 2-0 with five minutes remaining, Kewell will come on with his groin strapped up like he's into BDSM and score a hatrick to win it.

Joke of a decision. With Harry not sure on fitness, you're taking a massive risk only taking Kennedy. Does he really rate Ruka higher?
Macca has played against some of the best defenders in the world and scored and is dropped. Hopeless from Pim.

Good decision from Pim. Carle is unproven at championship level and obviously has not impressed him during the squad training. McDonald looks unfit (i.e. fat) and bored half the time when he's playing for the Socceroos. He's had chances, fair enough to pull the pin on him.
We have plenty of striker options in the squad for the system we are using i.e. Kennedy, Kewell, Cahill, Chippers, Rukavytsya, Holman and Garcia.
Grella has been playing poorly for Blackburn and looked no better last night. I reckon Valeri and Jedinak have the inside running for his spot for the Denmark match, watch out in training boys!
Beauchamp looks the better option to Moore as well, Pim would have learnt alot last night.

Well, at least we will win one title this year, for the most boring team to watch at the World Cup. Seriously, 3 strikers, and one of them is a lifelong crock???? What happens when (not if) Kewell goes down injured and we are a goal down with 10 minutes to go- that's right, we bring on a bloody midfielder as we have no strikers on the bench. Argentina are taking 6 strikers!!! We are screwed.

Holman wins the contest if comparing work rate. I'd rather have a attacking midfielder, who has technique and vision, and occasionally is lazy; than Holman, who runs around like a greyhound but loses the ball more often than he effectively passes to a teammate.

I think a defensive midfield pairing of Wilkshire and Jedinak would work OK. They played very well together against Ireland in what was argubly Australia's most convincing performance under Pim. And Jedinak was excellent last night, brought a level of control which was lacking in the first half. Culina showed proof of why he shouldn't be in the middle, far more useful on the right. Don't agree with the dropping of Carle. He at least offers something different from the rest, and I thought would have been far closer to selection than James Holland. Anyway, I think Holland will be one of the five cut from the 28 - along with Galekovic, Lowry, Garcia, and Oar. McDonald's game simply does not fit into Pim's plans, so he would have been a waste at the WC.

So in other words: "Carle is bestest he is latin and they have the skillz and shit man and he iz like so much beter thn lolman becas he tryed a ribonna (sec Rabonna) against argentinaaaaaa" Seriously Carle wanfest please tell me what is so good about a bench championship player. Prove to me why he brings more to the team than Holman. Edited by Guest: 25/5/2010 03:59:44 PM

Macca has played against some of the best defenders in the world and scored and is dropped. Hopeless from Pim. Absolutely agree. If Pim had swallowed his pride and played Macca and Jesus together we would have seen BOTH of them at their best. Good coaches adapt but I haven't seen Pim change his tactics by hell or high water for two and a half years. At least if he wanted a striker besides Kennedy to play a solitary role he could have at least brought Griff into contention (who might I add is a proven player at that role). Quote:Anyone, who has a feeling/understanding for the Game would simply watch Carle & Holman for 5 minutes and realise Carle is streets ahead of Holman in terms of football technique and tactical vision.

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

Don't agree with the dropping of Carle. He at least offers something different from the rest
Which is what? Falling on his arse? Trying to do tricks and losing possesion. Sitting on the sideline and standing out of play? The only thing he is better than Holman at is bench warming.

why would pim pick Macca its illogical.
breciano, cahill, ruka, vidiosic, emerton, chipperfield, kennedy, kewell and maybe holman and garcia can all score goals.
Macca on the other hand has had 16 appearances and is yet to score and as people say he doesnt suit the australian way of playing under pim. SO why would he get picked? what makes people think they world cup is gonna be any different to the 16 games his already played?
