no real surprise there, we all expected that to happen realistically. regarding in Carle missing out that is. What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Carle Axed From Roos WC Squad? TOMMY Oar and James Holland are on the plane to South Africa in the Socceroos World Cup squad - but Nicky Carle failed to make the grade and has been axed by Pim Verbeek.Have your say.

why would pim pick Macca its illogical.
breciano, cahill, ruka, vidiosic, emerton, chipperfield, kennedy, kewell and maybe holman and garcia can all score goals.
Macca on the other hand has had 16 appearances and is yet to score and as people say he doesnt suit the australian way of playing under pim. SO why would he get picked? what makes people think they world cup is gonna be any different to the 16 games his already played?

Which is what? Falling on his arse? Trying to do tricks and losing possesion. Sitting on the sideline and standing out of play? The only thing he is better than Holman at is bench warming.

Macca has played against some of the best defenders in the world and scored and is dropped. Hopeless from Pim. Absolutely agree. If Pim had swallowed his pride and played Macca and Jesus together we would have seen BOTH of them at their best. Good coaches adapt but I haven't seen Pim change his tactics by hell or high water for two and a half years. At least if he wanted a striker besides Kennedy to play a solitary role he could have at least brought Griff into contention (who might I add is a proven player at that role). Quote:Anyone, who has a feeling/understanding for the Game would simply watch Carle & Holman for 5 minutes and realise Carle is streets ahead of Holman in terms of football technique and tactical vision.
Holman wins the contest if comparing work rate.
I'd rather have a attacking midfielder, who has technique and vision, and occasionally is lazy; than Holman, who runs around like a greyhound but loses the ball more often than he effectively passes to a teammate. +1 Couldn't have said it better myself
He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

Just because Grella played a horrible game last night and did a really bad foul on another player, doesn't make him our worse DM. He IS our best DM. Better than culina, valeri, wilkshire and flipping James Holland! no i don't think so... i reckon he's very over-rated for mine, would rather have Wilkshire in the centre of midfield with Culina and have Emo and Chippers as the fullbacks I tend to agree wth you about Grella. I think a defensive midfield pairing of Wilkshire and Jedinak would work OK. They played very well together against Ireland in what was argubly Australia's most convincing performance under Pim. And Jedinak was excellent last night, brought a level of control which was lacking in the first half. Culina showed proof of why he shouldn't be in the middle, far more useful on the right. Don't agree with the dropping of Carle. He at least offers something different from the rest, and I thought would have been far closer to selection than James Holland. Anyway, I think Holland will be one of the five cut from the 28 - along with Galekovic, Lowry, Garcia, and Oar. McDonald's game simply does not fit into Pim's plans, so he would have been a waste at the WC.

Not taking Scotty Mac is a joke. We are effectively taking two recognised strikers to the world cup.
Pim, you're an idiot.
I dont buy into this Carle wankfest either TBH...

We were already told that when the 31 man sqaud was named. Were we? :< Haven't been been paying enough attention clearly

Dario Vidosic is a back-up striker also. there are guys at the back that can play in the midfield.

Well, at least we will win one title this year, for the most boring team to watch at the World Cup. Seriously, 3 strikers, and one of them is a lifelong crock???? What happens when (not if) Kewell goes down injured and we are a goal down with 10 minutes to go- that's right, we bring on a bloody midfielder as we have no strikers on the bench. Argentina are taking 6 strikers!!! We are screwed.

Good decision from Pim. Carle is unproven at championship level and obviously has not impressed him during the squad training. McDonald looks unfit (i.e. fat) and bored half the time when he's playing for the Socceroos. He's had chances, fair enough to pull the pin on him.
We have plenty of striker options in the squad for the system we are using i.e. Kennedy, Kewell, Cahill, Chippers, Rukavytsya, Holman and Garcia.
Grella has been playing poorly for Blackburn and looked no better last night. I reckon Valeri and Jedinak have the inside running for his spot for the Denmark match, watch out in training boys!
Beauchamp looks the better option to Moore as well, Pim would have learnt alot last night.

Poor Scotty Mac, he's got no friends and nobody knows why. Maybe it's his haircut?
On a serious note, this is the weirdest fucking build-up to a World Cup ever. If the Socceroos come out and play Germany off the park in that first game I reckon half the nation is gonna have to be hospitalised with shock. We'll probably be down 2-0 with five minutes remaining, Kewell will come on with his groin strapped up like he's into BDSM and score a hatrick to win it.

3 logical choices North no chance of 1st team, McDonald cant score to save himself and Nicky carle wouldnt even get a go at the WC so it would of been a waste if they all were picked!

He drops MacDonald after forcing him to play in a system that makes him completely impotent. A goal poacher like Scott MacDonald wil never win a physical battle with a good defender, yet he continues to play him. Seriously what does he expect? Yeah, it sucks. I feel for Scotty. But that's Pim, eh? Anyone studying us will soon realise that we are set up to play one way and one way only. If we get in trouble, there's no backup plan (no, Ruka or Tommy Oar on the bench is not a backup plan). Look on the bright side. It's worked so far, so it could keep working for a few more weeks... If not, it's only four more years. Or maybe 32.
