Skinet, to say a team used a friendly as a run-out is not an arrogant statement. None of the player or the coach said anything negative about NZ after the game. How can that be considered arrogant? The player in question who you claim said they will destroy all opposition was Zigic, he infact did not say that. He said the mentality of the team was when they go on the field for the WC, there aim is to destroy the competition. That is not arrogant, rather a postive mind set that I would assume all teams would like to project! All teams (barring both Brazil and Germany) have had flops in major tournaments, it is a fact of life. Do you remember Australia in 2002? 1998? 1994? 1990? No? well neither do I....

Hey Piksi there is nothing more arogant than to treat an obviouys loss as merely a training run, At least one of your players has claimed they will destroy all opposition in the WC, An outrageous claim. Remember Coratia 2006 and Yugoslavia 1998 both dummy spitters and ultimately chokers.

@ skinet
Did you watch the game? I did. We clearly were not putting in 100%. It was a run-out for the squad, nothing more.
Can you provide some facts around your arrogant comment? What have we done to get that tag? None of the players or the coach has said any arrogant at this point in time.

@ socceroossupporter to write "it looks like their 'world class' team with the decorated Vidic have fallen flat on their faces" is a big call considering it was only a friendly. I think we will be okay, time will tell.

Just got back from a short weekend holiday so this is the first time I heard this news, but just wanted to say congratulations to New Zealand. :)
Secondly, maybe I underestimated how good New Zealand actually are. Sure, it was a friendly and a practice match, but you gotta give credit where it's due. New Zealanders should be extremely proud of this performance and surely more performances like this will give justification to calls for an annual Australia v New Zealand match.
I don't know what this says about Serbia. Pretenders? Overrated? Time will tell. But it's certainly embarrassing for them. Not to mention a severe moral destroyer. I've heard so much about this team from Serbian supporters and negative socceroo supporters such as SydneyCroatia, but it looks like their 'world class' team with the decorated Vidic have fallen flat on their faces.
I still maintain Serbia is Australia's biggest danger game though, despite this performance.

Again, another sign that you are not Australian-based as you make out to be, Christie hasn't performed in the A-League since about season 2 or so, so must Australian viewers would not know how he is playing since he left the A-League. The dossier has been built on you, keep treating people like crap and we'll sort you out. No doubts, no exceptions. You're attitude to some across a few places has been second rate. You must be watching the games on Sky Sports.

Great being in the crowd on Saturday. Thought the red flares were quite a spectacle. Strange seeing firemen waiting in the corner, with riot police in helmets stacked up behnd them. There was a moment were I thought the game would be called off. The ref looked pretty cheesed off. Smeltz almost got hit by a full bottle, just after he turned back. I stopped counting when the tenth flare hit the pitch.
Still vast majority of Serbs told me they were embarrassed. Laughed at first, then realised they could lose the game by default. Lots of Kiwi/Serb group photos after the match. Pity it was marred by a 'tanked up' section of the crowd.

NZ isn't the one taking the game too seriously and making all kinds of cheap shots on key players like Brown, Nelsen, Elliot and Bertos.
It has been our opponents rattled by the sustained pressure we've put them under who have been frustrated and lashed out.
NZ don't know who their top team is yet- but either of the line ups against Serbia or Australia could have been it. All those players, with the suprise inclusion of Christie, are our top players. We're still experimenting too.
It shows we can score goals, create chances and defend beyond what we were expected to be able to do. Most pleasing has been the passing game, which hasn't been the hoof and hope we feared, but has shown we can maintain possession and use it.
We will have to wait and see if we can step up in crucial games at the World Cup. This is our biggest scalp, and only our second win over a European team.

I think some of the comments that the All Whites are treating these friendlies as World cup games are a bit misguided. After 28 years of trying to qualify do you not think Herbert and the players are desperate to also do well in South Africa? They seem to be just like Australia 4 years ago. We took the holland warm up pretty seriously. Australia didn't do too bad in the last World Cup. So maybe they're heading in the right direction. I don't know how they will do. i watched their play off match against Bahrain so am pretty excited for them. I will admit when I looked at the schedule for the world cup I was not going to watch NZ's games as I didn't expect them to be contests and I need some sleep now and then*. I still don't expect them to get through but I will be watching their games now as they will be competitive. * I always try and pick dud matches that i won't watch...then end up watching them anyway because it's the World Cup.

SCO3 To summarise the comments on this forum: Australia and Serbia were attempting to lose to New Zealand because the games were not serious and this was the way to prepare for the World Cup.
yep NZ is the one taking the game too seriously and making all kinds of cheap shots on key players like Brown, Nelsen, Elliot and Bertos. Wait, no that has been our Serbian and Australian opponents rattled by the sustained pressure we've put them under.

I'd love to Shane Smletz's face if someone tells him he's gotta do the Haka!
There could be a negative impact from this result if rivals wake up to the idea that NZ will not be a pushover. Hope they get a few goals, especially Smeltzy. Not expecting him back at Skilled Park, but great if he is.

What was seen from this friendly is that Serbia is very weak in the RB position. Rukavina is not cut out to play at internation level and if Ivanovic was to get injured - Serbia would be stuffed at RB. Obradovic was injured and it is not known yet what is happening with him but most likely Kolarov will take his place since he had a solid game. Jovanovic and Krasic would be a huge blow if either of them were to get injured as there also doesn't seem to be a lot of depth in the wingers department.
I also don't think that Serbia will play well against very physical sides such as Australia, so this is where Australia will have an advatage as the Serbian players seem to be very concerned about getting injured. Also im not sure on how Serbia would react with being a goal down in the World Cup.

I never said you hate them. I said you "seem" to hate them as per your previous comment. Zigic said in a press conference that they are going to the world cup with the aim to beat everyone and because of that he is a dickhead? I've never heard Antic say Australia are easy beat? Have you? I don't think you realise what these preperation games are for. New Zealand is the most similar country to Australia. Antic says that he knows the Australian team (like Germany) are some of the most physically and mentally strongest in the world. This is why he played a friendly with New Zealand - to see how aggressive they are and to test out some new tactics, and obviously he would have told the players to take it easy and not to get injured. And yeh. Serbia is really embarassed now.
