From my memory way back when I was trained as a ref - You cannot turn around and kick the ball into your own net. If say the wind was bad, and the ball went into the goal before anyone else touched it, then it goes out for a corner. That's right. It's funny reffing U12's and trying to tell the team who benefits from the own goal that it's not an own goal and only a corner

Another one people seem to get wrong a bit is that you can't be offside from a direct back pass no matter how far ahead of the defender the player is. Yeh, but I meant the other end of the field - I.e. Keeper takes a massive kick over the top of the other team's defence, and lands on his strikers run. Striker isn't offside.

The ball has to leave the box to be in play.

My internet died yesterday. Luckily I have a pdf of the rules of file so I could fill in the time reading that. I am a fully qualified referee now.

Not really Hutchy. It's not that they're arguing the interpretation of the rule (which there's plenty of chances to do). Theyr'e arguing the actual rule itself, which is just stupid.

whats the point when the refs chop and change as they please. maybe if they were consistent the public wouldn't have these conversations every cup.

http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/lawsofthegame.htmlFucking read it! Preferably BEFORE you comment on any 'contentious' refereeing decisions.
