Again. Really not sure who comes up with these rankings, but they are total shit. Kennedy - 3? Sorry but what? A rating of 3 would be reserved for someone who makes a team concede atleast one goal, and then gets red carded. A rating of 3 for a player on the winning team - Not to mention there are 2 other ratings of 3 - is just complete horseshit. What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Socceroo Heroes Rated v Serbia? AUSTRALIA'S heroes went out of the World Cup with their heads held high after another outstanding performance with the 2-1 win over Serbia - but how did they rate individually?Have your say.

You've got to be joking.. Chippers made a huge impact when he came on. He should be rated much more than 3.

Yeah, these are Sportal's and they're more than a bit harsh...having another look at them.

I thought Carney was better than that, his overlapping runs with Bresc were quality. He's a long term prospect.

I think Brett Goalman has had the last laugh at all the "experts" who never had faith. What a strike.

I don't think Carney deserved even a 5. He was useless in the first half and didn't do a whole lot more in the second.
Holman certainly played as well as he can, but still gives the ball away too often for my liking.
But at the end of the day, well done one and all!!! No complaints for that effort.

Quote:Brett Holman: 8 - The star of the tournament as far as Australia is concerned and without doubt the Socceroos' most improved player. His magnificent second-half strike against Serbia, just minutes after coming on, was one of the best goals of the tournament and meant he ended the campaign as the Socceroos' leading scorer. Hard to believe that until the Socceroos' last warm-up game against New Zealand that he had scored just one goal for his country but now shapes as one of the most important players for Australia over the next four years. Pim, see how your belife in someone can pay off, pity you didn't have teh same belief for the rest of the team.

Just a fantastic effort by all players. You did the country more than proud.
Fair play to Pim too. Games 2 & 3 he's got the tactics spot on, after the unmitigated disaster that was Germany. If supporters can't see or acknowledge this, they really need to pull their head's out of their arses.
This really has been a tournament of if only's for us. Which is part of the reason I love supporting this group, you're always in for a fantastic ride.
A big thanks to the Australian National Football side.

There is definently a attitude that tends to look down on teams in Asia/Oceania. Let's hope the efforts of our teams help to dispel these notions and make people take notice. A win of Serbia is astounding and I am pretty sure nobody in Europe saw this coming. Good stuff!

Pretty close to what I think. But then I'm never good at tracking every player.
Schwarzer - 8 (9 sans error) Wilkshire - 7 Neill - 8 Beauchamp - 6 Carney - 6 Culina - 5 Valeri - 6 Emerton - 6 Bresciano - 6 Cahill - 9 Kennedy - 5
Holman - 8 (super sub) Chipperfield - 6 Garcia (5 did nothing but didn't have a chance to do much)

Brett Goalman is the new Aussie hero and may his taste for the net long continue. He has earned the accolades as much as he earned past criticism.I think Luke Wilkshire is the other unsung hero tbh...we started flapping and conceded a goal as soon as he came off..his crosses and solid defence always put us in good standing.Tim Cahill is freaky...in a nice way. I also think Bresciano was excellent...fast and involved and his dead-ball skills lived up to the hype. Josh Kennedy is an enigma..we need him against big defenders and smaller stature players as he is a threat to them but in all honesty his positioning is quite poor and his first touch is not good enough...he remains an impact player for me.Would we have fared better with Scotty Mac? Well possibly, but Scotty is also vertically challenged. The English commentator this morning was bemoaning the inability of Cahill and Kennedy to link up and Cahill himself seemed frustrated.Whether we go with Kennedy or Scotty or Nikita then the next coach has to do what others have failed to do..create a strike partnership that works well in tandem. Other big thanks go to Mark Schwarzer..what a legend he is and he may rue that goal but he has saved us too many times to count...and Chippers..always provides us with some pace and a lift and some good crosses. I think Valeri has more than proven he is worthy of Grella's spot, and I hope the next coach gets these younger players ready for the next stoush.

Schwarzer - 8 Bad mistake for the goal but it didn't cost us. Wilkshire - 7 A good game and tournament. Neill - 9 One of the best games I've ever sen him play. Beauchamp - 8 Wow, a mobile, quick centre-back. Pity we didn't use him earlier. Carney - 7 How many players wouldn't be cut up by that winger? Like his game. Culina - 5 At best. Mt Magic Roundabout - the man who always turns back on himself. Missed a sitter. Valeri - 6 Why was he taken off? Emerton - 4 Love this player but a poor game. Bresciano - 6 Some nice stuff but in patches. Cahill - 7 Great goal (as always) but in and out Kennedy - 7 Limited player who really showed us the bexst and worst of his game tonight but made a difference.
Holman - 9 Can now sell ALL his supporter shirts to the fans who hated him last week. Chipperfield - 7 Should have come on earlier. Brought real zip. Garcia - 5 At least he's played at a World Cup
Pim - 6 for tonight. 6 for the Ghana game. -10 for the Germany game. 7 for the qualifying campaign. Average - 2.25 Have a nice time in Morocco. Shame we weren't forced to play attacking football earlier so that you could have seen that we can do it if we need to. Still, thanks for getting us there.

Holman still needs more consistency. 3 recent goals does not make up for 25+ crap performances. He is definately on the way though. Still not a certain starter. He has played a lot more like he has this season at AZ which is what most people want to see when he is in the national team strip.
At least the end of this tournament also bring the end of Graham Arnold in the national team. Even though he is not the manager he is still bringing disharmony to the team. Sorry Mariners fans but you have a poor replacement coming for Lawrie McKinna.
Tactics were crap in game 2 Bob Malcolm #1 fan. Pim said he had to treat each game like the final after the German disaster. You can't win a game with a 4-2-3-0 formation maybe putting on a striker when Kewell was sent off may have paid a dividend. Taking off a defensive midfielder did against Serbia.
Oh well new manager new journey!

Kennedy getting a 5 for his effort this game is bullshit, he did good off the ball work, he actually did his defensive duties and cause turnovers and made 3 interceptions. Just because he did not succeed with his turn and strike it looks like he has been docked 2 points. What a load of crap. The worst player we had on the field was Carney, and that is because of his defensive game - though he was ably covered for by Neil & Valeri. We played with a very attack minded group of players and they did well to hold themselves back in the first half to fustrate the hell out of Serbia, this is what allowed us to come out in the second half with a bang and really rattle their cages. I have to say that Holman's strike has been a stand out this tournament.

Holman, Golman or Heroman what ever you want to call him that goal was the best goal i've seen in South Africa maybe Forlans goal against SA was better but they're close. Holmans scored 3 goals in his last 4 apperence most of them off the bench to his cerdit, im glad he will be arond in 2014. I think the Socceroos were the best team behind germany in this Group but we were unlucky with ref decisions. Verbeek deserves cerdit for the last to games and blame for the 1st one. To miss out on the tound of 16 due to goal difference is nothing to be ashamed of. The Kiwis have brought light to the A-league and Australia has shown they can play football and 06 wasnt a fluke. Thats exactly what we need this time around, with a few new players we could very much become a top 20-5 footballing nation within 4 years.

I'm sick of all this analysis and criticism. Here are my ratings:
Schwarzer - magnificent Wilkshire - magnificent Neill - magnificent Beauchamp - magnificent Carney - magnificent Culina - magnificent Valeri - magnificent Bresciano - magnificent Cahill - magnificent Emerton - magnificent Kennedy - magnificent Holman - magnificent Garcia - magnificent Chipperfield - magnificent
Because they left nothing on the pitch, as required, the Socceroos were.....magnificent!

Pim Verbeek rating for this game: 8 (similar to his rating for Ghana)
Say whayt you like, but purely in rating him on this game, he has overseen one of the best victories in our football history
Our second win in a WC game ever. Against a better team than the Japan we beat in 2006.
And Pim's record as coach in the WC groups stage is the same as Hiddinks, in a group that was just as tough.
We went out due to red cards. Not due to Pim.
