Thanks to Southampton we only need to beat Newcastle and West Brom at home to seal 4th spot.

Hopefully City can beat Everton and we can play afford to play a fully 2nd string XI against West Brom and Norwich. Maybe even give Viviano some game time

There are no teenage fans of Tottenham who were alive last time Spurs finished above Arsenal. There are no Spurs fans below about 24 who will really remember when they last finished above Arsenal (and if they do then they'll remember how many trophies we won that year!).
Time to collect on the bets. Again.
An April St Totteringham's is the earliest we've had since 2008/9, and 36 games comes as a welcome relief after two successive final day St Ts. We only needed 35 in 2010/11 despite it being on May 7.
A £1 bet invested at double-or-quits started in 1995/1996 would now need a payment of £262,144. Almost buy a season ticket with that...
As well as all that we still have two things to play for: we need another three points to be sure of 4th place, and there is the small matter of the FA Cup Final!
Last season at this stage I said Spurs are improving. I was wrong.
ENJOY ST TOTTERINGHAM'S DAY 2014!

Considering our 6-0 loss against them  it is pretty nuts to think we're the only club in the top 4 to keep a clean sheet against Chelsea and to take points off them.

ENJOY ST TOTTERINGHAM'S DAY 2014! How many of those do you remember as an Arsenal fan? Didn't you start properly supporting Arsenal again at the start of the season? I'm not sure if my memory is deceiving me or if you a just slipping into that classic Arsenal fan mentality of being a bit of a dick. ;)

I'm not sure if my memory is deceiving me or if you a just slipping into that classic Arsenal fan mentality of being a bit of a dick. ;) Talking about me personally - I have celebrated Arsenal finishing above Tottenham every single year since being a supporter - I became a supporter in 1995 so I'd say every single year. And every single year since 2005 at the start of the season I have put a $50 bet on Tottenham to be relegated (only started doing it in 2005 as that was when I started coming across that kind of money  ). I honestly felt offended, and felt out of touch with Arsenal, since they sold Vieira (for reasons I think I've stated multiple times). But since, I kept up with their every move just as intently, and kept up my Sp*rs hate as much as ever, but I felt a bit like a dog that had been kicked by his owner and was shy yet still wanting to return the love for some weird reason. The moment Arsene signed Flamini back this year, I felt an instant re-connection with the club. But in saying I was out of touch with them - I cried when Henry scored on his return, I cried when the Boss slipped v Birmingham. I was still deep down in love with the club. Is that an OK answer? Linked with Drmic again, would definitely take him to rotate with Giroud.
Now just grab Ginter and Lars Bender whilst we're in Germany and that's our transfers done  Assuming nobody leaves of course.

Lothar Matthaus is the one really pushing all this Drmic stuff. He's now saying it's not a rumour and Drmic is definitely coming to Arsenal.

I believe we'll be getting Serge Aurier, it has finally set in for me that Sagna will no longer be with us. I think Ginter is going to dortmund and I really hope he get Lars Bender as well.

Would anyone be opposed to signing Vela as competition for a wing forward/ST spot? Been very good in La Liga and we can get him for 4mil.

Was hoping to see a few of the inexperienced lads start today, such as Sanogo and Jenkinson, but I suppose it's better to keep the first 11 in good form and fitness for the final. Rambo brace, podolski and giroud for a 4-1 win!

Would have thought Bac would prefer to be first choice on 80k a week rather than back up for 100k at City (if that's what happens).
Wenger reaffirming that he'll stay on in yesterdays presser.

Just having a look at our finances, it really is absurd how little we spend considering the money we have. We ended the 2013 financial year with 120 million in the bank with a loss of only 2.2 mil for the season. We'll have similar results this year with the rise of ticket prices and the new Emirates deal and then next year we'll have an extra 25 million from Puma and 30 million (I think) from the EPL TV deal and we really should be spending more money

Dood - granted Wenger does well with what he is provided in funds, as an employee he does with what he's provided, I'm sure he'd love to spend more but tbh the board members are smart, they enjoy the fruits whilst supporters keep dreaming, they could put you all out of misery but as an article linked in our thread by jlm here's some food for thought re the $$$ restraint : "Owned by the mostly absentee American Stan Kroenke, Arsenal abide by the "self-sustaining model", meaning shareholders made millions selling up, but are not expected to put any of their gains into the club." Another point just for interest sake David Conn is a journalist first, and Manchester City supporter second. Edited by M.L.: 5/5/2014 11:45:56 PM

Edited by jlm8695: 5/5/2014 09:08:26 PM I guess the problem now is getting players to sign. For example, I am sure Wenger would drop 50 million on Cavani, but could he convince cavani to sign for us when aren't winning trophies? Hopefully he spends some money this window. Bender, Aurier and a striker or two.

Bender, Aurier, a striker and a new CB would be an excellent window imo. Obviously depending on if anyone else leaves.

Not spending buys Wenger an excuse...
Spending big brings increased expectation and more pressure.
Don't get me wrong making top 4 has it's own pressure and expectations but to spend 100m in a transfer window on 2-3 players increases expectations and risk (as Spurs have shown). Wenger, forever the gambler, plays it safe small risk small reward. I really am torn as to whether I want him to stay... his experience is what got Arsenal over the line against Martinez for 4th but I just feel as though he's not daring or adventurous enough to put it on the line for a title...
As always, it's going to be an interesting summer.
