So in the most unsurprising news for a while Robin van Persie has been named captain after the departure of Cesc with Vermaelen named as Vice Captain. Of course he won't be captain for the first leg against Udinese becuase of suspension. Quote: Van Persie appointed as Arsenal captain Robin van Persie has been confirmed as Arsenal's new captain. The Dutch international has been at the Club since May 2004 and succeeds Cesc Fabregas, who left for Barcelona this week. "Robin van Persie will be captain this season," Arsène Wenger told the Official Matchday Programme. "He is a leader through the way he plays, through his attitude and through his desire to win. "He’s been at the Club a long time and he’s a technical leader as well. Thomas Vermaelen will assist him, it’s the decision I have made and I’m confident the group will respond to it." http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/van-persie-appointed-as-arsenal-captain

Quote:Van Persie - I'm ready for the captaincy
Robin van Persie is ready for the Arsenal captaincy.
The Dutch forward has been appointed as successor to Cesc Fabregas, who left Emirates Stadium for Barcelona this week. Van Persie will not lead Arsenal out against Udinese - he serves a UEFA one-match suspension on Tuesday night - but will reclaim the armband when Liverpool visit north London on Saturday.
Van Persie has been at Arsenal for seven years and is approaching his peak. The Dutch international has 'grown up' since he joined the Club and is now relishing the extra responsibility that captaincy brings.
"As captain you are an ambassador for the Club and I’m ready for that," Van Persie told the Official Matchday Programme. "I’ve been in the game now for more than ten years, so I know how this world works.
"When I was 18 I didn’t have a clue! Every day I was always surprised by something, when I went to training or when I had a game, every day was just one big surprise for me. How people reacted after the game – the fans, players, media – it was all a surprise to me, I was just thinking about playing football.
"But now I know how things work and I understand that certain actions have consequences. I know that quite well, I feel experienced, so I feel ready for this. I know that every single player represents their club anyway, everywhere you are, 24/7. I’ve been dealing with it for a few years now, so I know what my part is.
"You should always try to show respect, and this is just basic stuff that all human beings should have in their life – just being nice to people. It’s the little things, like giving people a minute of your time in the street, you show them respect, and live with your principles on life."

From the little that i know about the players wrong choice but wenger knows them a hell of a lot better obviously. As for Nasri what an idiot, there used to be talk of him being as good as zidane but not with his attitude, how much was he earning before asking for a pay rise, $200,000 a week i think? little bastard. Wilshere is better and on no where near that much, and has a better attitude.

What an abysmal performance, lacked any cohesion when in posession and were dominated by a team still in pre-season mode. Chamakh and Rosicky should be paying the club to play, they were both made to look like drunken park footballers. Gervinho and Walcott were anonymous for 95% of the game, and only sparked up when they were around the 18 yard box.
With a big game against Liverpool on the weekend I doubt we can back up for the return leg, and really doubt we will progress to the group stage.

Still got the win in the end though, but it will definitely be a tough second leg.
In other news the club has agreed terms with Galataseray for Eboure and Carlos Vela and Pedro Botelho have joined Real Sociedad and Rayo Vallecano respectively, both on season long loans.

All good news! Udinese win was good - got the ESPN replay on now. Shaping up to be a boring piece of European crap.
Have to say though, taking that lead to Italy won't be great, especially with a stadium packed full of animals.

So Wengers decided to not do his post-match media. Unhappy with UEFA about details of the ban.

You're right, but it's not encouraging that the place is usually half empty because all the fans have been banned for violence. 40,000 screaming, caged Italians with flares on a CL game, however... ...every English club loves playing over there. And every English fan loves attending. Right?

Going to rip into him like when Fergie did not attend his post match conference last season? It is incredibly petty but that's just the rumoured reason. And TBF I kinda agree with Wenger about UEFA. We were told that he could communicate with Boro Primorac, and then we're told we can't, if he gets further punishment for it it's a fucking joke.

Just watched the match again, and although there were a fair few things missing, one thing that wasn't missing was commitment and spirit. There was something weirdly satisfying about struggling and fighting for a 1-0 win.
Also have to say out back 3 of Koscielny, Vermaelen and Szczesny were excellent, as was Sagna who was outstanding. Song had a good game in the middle and didn't stop working all match. Rosicky and Chamakh were poor, Rosicky has the possibility of an injury as an excuse but there is no excuse for Chamakh. I really really hope we don't sell Bendtner.
Still feeling confident about the 2nd leg, we'll have RvP back and maybe Jack. As well as a good record against Italian sides and a aggregate lead. An early goal and we will be comfortable I think.

I'd like to say congratulations to the Mirror, Independent, Express and the Telegraph for all somehow making a story out of comments from Nasri's facebook page. Nevermind that it's a fake facebook page or anything.
You'd think the Daily Mirror would learn about printing a story without fact checking.

Reports in France that Lille expect us to come in again for Eden Hazard, and wouldn't surprise me if we do given Arsene's very public admiration of him.
Also reports that we are targeting Lucho Gonzalez on loan, but Marseille want a permanent deal. More reports from Marseille with their sporting director saying "If Arsenal want to buy Mathieu Valbuena [from Marseille], the discussion can be opened."
We're also apparently targeting Yann M'Vila who I would be fucking ecstatic with.

fuk yeah. just watched some youtube of him. hes got mad showboating skills. after last night with ramsey doing well, arsenal could eventually move back to a 442 with ramsay and jack in the middle, and move theo up front like arsene has said he would. would be good to see maybe against shitter teams. Quote:'I will spend' says Wenger Well after Cesc leaving Arsenal it will obviously hit them hard during the season. Arsene stated that he will even be willing to pay 40 million for a quality player! But who will that quality player be? I was thinking, haha this may sound crazy but do you think Arsenal will give a stab at Neymar? http://www.bigpondsport.com/i-will-spend-says-wenger/tabid/91/newsid/75953/default.aspx

IMO Neymar doesn't seem like the type of player who would fit in at Arsenal.

Is it because the EPL is more about size and speed?

 why even bring Neymar up?
I'd rather spend the 60m or so that we will have on a CB, 1 or even 2 midfielders, maybe a left winger and a striker.

Why spend 50 million to get a little shit who will disrupt the team and make everything about himself? Wenger is Wenger but he's far too wise for that.
