Can we please have it moderated so that you need over a certain amount of posts before you can start polls???

This is why I made my comment and it was in jest. I agree that copping abuse isn't any fun but either is the fact that forum privileges for all participants have been compromised due to the immaturity of a select few new forumites.

The ability to create polls was revoked by mods for over 6 months IIRC and has only recently been re-instated. Due to trigger happy new forumites which includes your contributions), existing users who waited for the privilege for six months (or however long it has been) are now again unable to create polls.

This frustration is where the abuse has come from.

Also I am unaware at why it is so hard for you to post in existing threads, or threads you create yourself. Creating your own polls and 'copy and paste' threads as you have mentioned simply to increase your post count seems largely pointless. Contributing to this forum is not only done by creating new threads but by contributing to existing ones.

I speak for only myself when I say that I think you need to raise your game if you want to get something more out of this forum.

I started one poll and that was in jest because of all the other irrelevant, pointless polls that were popping up. If you looked at my posts, you would actually see that I have posted in threads (actually contributing to them as well), and have not done any copying and pasting.

My comment regarding getting more out of this forum was in response two these two posts.

I was only joking anth.. If I actually meant it, don't you think I would have already started doing it? I have nothing against copying and pasting, often it can result in good lively discussion. It just seems that here the articles are posted to closely together, and some get missed, resulting in threads with no responses, or one or two at most.. That's my only problem with it!

I didn't since I am by default a TWGFer as well, so frankly it was just pathetic.

I suggest you post more in those threads.

Did you see AF yesterday? Half the front page was polls, and a lot of them stupid ones.

It was being abused and it's no surprise it's gone.

If you have a legitimate poll question, you can ask one of the mods and we'll gladly put it up for you.

It is a slight over reaction since there was what? 10-12 polls made? Wasn't the original reason polls were stopped because they were being used to make stupid attacks on other forum members (Joffa in particular from memory)? The best thing that could have been done to those useless polls was shift them to Extra Time and PM the creator (Sly v2.0) and ask him to stop - could have answered his query as to why he was slapped with a 12 month ban for the ~7 posts he made which contained two annoying things, the idiot comment and the new dawner comment.

Then we could continue to have the option to make polls, which most people aren't interested in doing anyway.

Sly was banned for something else entirely - which you can't see because the post has since been deleted. Sly has been PMd about it already, hence his absence in the thread he created.

And again, it wasn't just sly. Paoktzi, Therk, scouse, adelutdfan, subbeteo, cbowden had all made unneccessary polls within 1 day of each other.

My Alex Brosque poll was a bit of fun - isn't that what this forum is about, as well as serious discussion?

Well I have no issue with PAOKTZI not being able to make polls, but that is just bias. So if no one else can make one to prevent him from doing it I can live with it ;)

I think the stats were there were 8 polls on the front page. I did 3 on pertinent visual appeal issues around the A-league. There was already one about best logo (which was my muse). then there was a poll about brosque, the westies and then a poll about polls.

If that is more than the forum can handle and a reason for removing the ability to poll users then there is either an existing discrimination towards polls or heavy handed moderation.

Now look, I understand that it is FFT's interest to moderate this place pretty strictly as it forms an important part of they commercial operation, but if we can't have a bit fun and use relatively basic features on a standard forum then the place also becomes and unattractive place for attracting new users.

IMO (from personal experience) being called a spastic, retard, d..khead, of little value, Shit poster, and serveal other expletives as well, as i have, is a much greater put off to new users and potential advertisers than a few new forumites trying to have a few laughs and set up a lasting impression. So ban, sorry, suspended me if you like, and take away our forum privledges for having some fun, but whilst people continue to get away with blatent breaches of forum rules (discriminating against ex TWGFers and using abusive language) without punishment this place will not improve and attract many new active members.

TBH scouse I agree with you, i was having a bit of a laugh and had started 3 polls, i notice you were having a laugh be starting one also. The fact that the moderators saw fit to remove our polling ability because of that smacks of a power trip. however a few people had complained about having a few polls on the front page so possibly the mods were acting on the behalf of a vocal minority who took exception to a couple of posters using polls to generate lolz.

As i said in my last post in this thread the actions taken say more about the mods and complainants than those who were making polls.

I think if you look back my feedback was not to complain that polls should be banned but that something must be done to limit the amount of stupid polls by relatively new forumites so that things don't get out of hand. I still maintain that if there was an easy way to limit polls to those people with over 500 post count then things would be much more civilised.
