If Ronaldo had come out and said that there would be a four page thread here of people talking shit about how much of a prick he is, he's been crucified many a time here for far less conceited remarks.

benelsmore wrote:Suarez can't catch a break it seems. On face value it would seem he is being a) arrogant and b) a whiney bitch but his quote appears to be the result of a question that he has responded to. As a professional who has in the past been outspoken I think he's a soft target for fans.
In saying all of this his comment is still arrogant and it would probably have been better if he said "I don't know" as all his response has done is give the lovely people of Great Britain another excuse to jeer him. If he'd said "I don't know" he'd still have the media having a crack at him. The lad has a target on his back and there's not an awful lot he can do about that except put the ball in the back of the net. Whether or not fans are 'scared' of him, the question was still asked about the anthems and he made a valid point. They were outright disrespectful, not just to Suarez but to his whole country.

I agree with regard to the national anthem, there are 16 other guys in that squad who don't deserve to be booed.

Well Congrats BR gaining your/ours first win together....... Brendan's Gomel pride 2nd Aug 2012 - Latest News Brendan Rodgers spoke of his immense pride at winning his first game in charge of the Reds following a 1-0 victory in Gomel. It was the manager's first competitive game at the helm and a fantastic Stewart Downing strike ensured Liverpool take a vital lead into next Thursday's second leg at Anfield. "I'm pleased and it was an excellent test for us," Rodgers told his post-match press conference. "Gomel are well into their season so for us it was a great game for our fitness, but it was also competitive. "It was very important to get off to a good start and when you win any game it's always important. I was delighted for the players. "It was really special for me as it was the first competitive game. It wouldn't have mattered where the game was, whether it was in Belarus or Brazil, it's an honour for me to manage the club and I'm very proud to lead the players and be their manager. "Hopefully this can be the start of many more wins and positive games for us." Rodgers admitted his players had to work hard for their victory. He added: "It was difficult and Gomel's tactical idea for the game was to sit back, close the spaces and play on the counter attack. You have to be patient. My message to the players at half-time was continue to be patient and the spaces will start to open up as Gomel tire. "After an hour we changed the structure of our midfield so we could play Stevie ahead of the two controlling midfielders. "As the game wore on we started to get more space and our quality began to show through." The boss was also asked about Downing's display after he netted the all-important winner. He added: "I was delighted for Stewart Downing. It was a wonderful strike and that's why we put him on that side so he could come in and shoot." Rodgers also gave an update regarding the fitness of Joe Cole and Glen Johnson, who both left the field. "Glen was only scheduled to play 45 minutes anyway so he was taken off as planned," added the manager. "Joe just felt his hamstring a little bit. I don't think it is totally pulled and it was just a little bit of tightness so we had to take him off. It disrupted our plans a little bit but it was better to have him come off rather than risk injury." Meanwhile one local journalist asked Rodgers how long it would take him to implement his philosophies on the squad. He said: "How you play the game is based on the players you have. At this moment in time our squad isn't complete and we still have work to do. "It won't happen overnight and it's going to take time. What I was really pleased with tonight, which is a vital ingredient for success, is desire and commitment. For a lot of the players it was their first 90 minutes so when you have that you have something to build from. "We have a lot of improvement to make but I am excited in the future we will make those improvements." Rodgers also reserved special praise for the people of Belarus who gave the squad a tremendous welcome during their stay in Gomel. He added: "I want also to say a big thank-you to the people of Gomel and Belarus. We were given a fantastic welcome and the hospitality has been great. On behalf of myself, the players and Liverpool FC I want to say a big thank-you. "I thought their crowd was fantastic and the atmosphere was excellent. It was just like in England where the passion for football is amazing."

Quality goal from Downing.
Good to get the win even though the performance was average. Hopefully we turf them at Anfield.

Rodgers on signings wrote:"There is nothing imminent just yet, not that I am aware of, but hopefully things will progress over the next couple of days. It may take one or two moves to spark everything off. I want players in sooner rather than later, it is important to get the group together as quickly as possible, but if not we will just have to be patient. I'd be happy as long as we have some in before the end of August.
"I have also looked at one or two loan deals from abroad. There are some quality players in that market that I have inquired about. The make-up of the group will change before the season starts and that will change the dynamic of the team also." By moves does he mean sales.. He must surely have inquired about Sahin. The longer the window goes on the more i'm convinced that he has been given a transfer budget that is intended to cover both this and the January transfer market, i would assume its something like 30-50 million of which he has spent about 5 million net. It would make sense for both parties, BR will spend every penny carefully as he would know he isn't going to get an injection of funds in January if things go a little wrong. FSG are still likely embarrassed by the Carroll deal, probably feeling it best to avoid spending at all in the overpriced market that is January.

Quote:i would assume its something like 30-50 million of which he has spent about 5 million net. We spent 8m on Borini, we had 1.2m come in from Kuyt, a reported 2m from Maxi and 5m from Aquilani. We're yet to spend a cent. Whether or not he's been 'talking' to clubs, the deals clearly aren't getting done. He's had five weeks to take care of business and brought in one player. It doesn't exactly fill you with confidence.

It doesn't exactly fill you with confidence. Yea from what i have read reports have been mixed as far as the Borini deal goes so was using the middle ground that is 10m in my estimate. I am quite sure we are paying in excess of 1m directly towards Aquilani's wages just so he would move as well. I also thought Maxi left on a free but in the end whether its 5m net spend or 0 its not a huge difference in today's market. I'm not at all worried about bringing in players, we all know there will be at least one more signing just from what BR has been saying for almost a month now. What i am worried about is the players going out, Agger, Bellamy, Cole, Carroll, Pacheco, Jones, Doni, Skrtel all at some point rumoured to be leaving and you can see a couple doing that, not so bad if it is Cole and Carroll but if it's Agger and Bellamy than that is another story. 5 weeks does seem like a lot of time but you also have to remember that there is still 4 weeks left in the window, and if you are trying to save many via negotiation than the process is always going to take longer than those like the one Chelsea done for Hazard.

I think all parties will be happy - should free up some wages for you guys. Probably beefs up the Joe Allen situation now though.

Yep, so there is a financial loss to it - but considering his time at the club, losing Aqua isn't a massive loss to the team.

If that is the criteria than he is not a loss at all because for someone brought into replace Xabi he ended up making no impact.

I've always rated Aqua it just seems that he wasn't cut out for English football, hopefully he can settle down now and focus on getting back to his best, and Liverpool will surely be relieved to have this saga settled although the financial failure of the move is disappointing.
